The new Ghoul song isn't very good. Completely boring, new sounding and without the spirit of old Ghoul. Plus Ross sings way too much. I was really looking forward to the new record, now I'm only semi looking forward too it. I actually expected that reaction with the new Toxic Holocaust record, but that album ruled. Never did I think the "sellout" of my two favorite modern thrash bands would put out a better sounding album (although I should wait to hear the entire Ghoul album.)

The production is fucking dumb though. Sean's vocals sound weird and Ross's sound awful. Since becoming huge with the neo thrash scene I know they never will, but I really wish theyd return to the Impetigo/Carcass worship of their early Razorback days, every album it's been less of that, and every album it's been less good. This just sounds like a boring modern thrash song.
Plus Kids in America isnt on the tracklisting, what the fuck.

I guess it's all opinions but first of all I don't like BMTH and didn't go to the show for them. And I actually probably listen to a lot of similar bands as you, just that people like to point out the "less tr00 metal" bands I listen to so it looks like I'm a scene kid with no knowledge on metal. JD and I are on the same page basically. We do like some metalcore and deathcore, but will agree that many bands of both genres are shit. I may have gone to a show to see Suicde Silence tonight, but before that show besides blasting Suicide Silence to get pumped, I was also blasting tracks from Quo Vadis' Day Into Night, Revocation's Chaos Of Forms, Carcass's Heartwork, and Heathen's Evolution of Chaos. All amazing albums by the way. I've also been listening to Fleshgod Apacolypse's Agony all week and it is amazing. Just kinda shows that I don't only listen to metalcore and deathcore bands. They just happen to play here so often in LA which makes me look like I only go to death/metalcore shows. I also have a lot of fun at those shows and always have friends who want to see those type of bands so I always have friends to go with which is why I like going to them. Just felt like getting that out since I'm sure a lot of people on this forum think that about me. No I'm not trying to get respect and "metal credibility" from other metalheads on this site, I'm just saying though.

I only liked Catcher In The Rye because I thought it was a book about essentially nothing, could have gone on for as long as it wanted and still left the same impact. Just a lazy socially awkward kid complaining about whatever.

The main thing I hated about books when I read that (sophmore year IIRC) is that the endings always seemed to suck, with mostly open endings which I would hate. So here comes a book that stops when it wants to.

From a Cianide interview:
"I would describe your music as particularly primitive and heavy. Where does this come from?

Itís basically just who we are. We are kind of primitive, and we are kind of heavy. I think itís always been [that] we wanted to be heavy. Iíd never played guitar or anything like that. I picked up a guitar when I was just out of high school, and by listening to Hellhammer and Venom through my high school years, I was like, ďThatís what I want to doĒ. We were fans of this insanely heavy shit, and we just figured, ďIt canít be that fucking hard to doĒ. So we just went with that, and we ended up being really heavy.

As years go on, we just retain this same style because, honestly, weíre just not really that good of musicians, other than our drummer, Andy [Kuizin]. Andyís an awesome drummer. Mike [Perun, bassist/vocalist] and I, we basically donít know how to play. I never practice at home. The guitar at home could really be an ash tray for me. Or a beer stand. Could that guitar stand hold a beer for me, please? Because I have no interest in playing guitar at home. Itís boring to me. I love when we get down to Mikeís house in the basement- you know, down in the dungeon. But, honestly, I put that primtive shit down to the fact that we donít have any fucking idea how to play anything else.

I couldnít play you a Dream Theater riff, and I couldnít play you a Sonic Youth riff. I donít fucking know how. I just know how to play a dumb-ass death metal riff. Weíre cavemen, basically. I donít even have a fucking cell phone. And neither does Mike. Weíre just neanderthals. Iím cutting my lawn with a Venom shirt on, just sweating. Total neanderthal shit, man. [Laughs]"

That may be the best thing I've ever heard a musician in a band I enjoy say. I must listen to more Cianide now :)

Been neglecting my e-life while putting some more effort into my social life, school and work. Realizing working retail is the lowest common denominator and to get a good job, realizing that other types of music can be cool, but metal still kicks ass, realizing most of the "cool" people in the social scene are all a lot less confident than they appear to be, realizing that girls actually think im a cute sweet guy instead of a dork and most of my friends I thought were cooler than me are thought of as douchebags/tools, realizing that most rich/wealthy people have some serious issues, and most of all realizing that almost everything in my playlist is from last year and I need some fucking new material to rock out to

Does anyone know the CA Labor Law for the time required between shifts? My boss is trying to tell me there's no required amount of time, but I was always told it was 8 hours. I went to change my availability at work to fit my school schedule. I told them I couldn't work on Friday nights anymore because I was set up to work at 4am on Saturdays. The only shift I could possibly have on Fridays would be a 6pm-1030pm and that is only 5.5 hours between shifts. There's no way in hell I'm going to allow that to happen. I tried googling the law but the only thing that comes up is shit about meals and breaks.:hmm:

I think labels in general are getting better at stopping (or at least delaying) leaks. The number of albums I see leaking weeks before the release date has dropped considerably in the last year or two. I'd say the average now is about a week, just from my observations. Your mileage may vary.

I've only been at college for a week and I don't think I have hated any other artist more. Wiz and Wayne are getting there but I am not really hearing songs by them, just seeing pictures all over. See this is why Odd Future is such a hit. Mainstream rap needs some violence. Not some 18 year old white kid who's parents paid for his rap career.

Never actually listened to him, but he and White Panda are playing at UVM's "Fall Fest." I think it's sold out already...

QU got Sam Adams and 3OH!3 :hecho:

Well they got Ke$ha as a end of the year concert as well as other cool stuff in past years like Brand New and Circa Survive so I have hope that they will eventually get something good.

....and ugh Mac Miller is playing loudly next door :bouville:. Time to put on some more CunninLynguists.

NIU has Lupe Fiasco and some girl rapper I've never heard of coming here later this month, I believe. I don't like rap at all but from what I know, Lupe is one of the more poetic and talented rappers out there, so hooray for getting something decent?

I was forced to see these guys last year for their CD release party.

While I do think they are shitty for the most part. Their B-Sides are actually really damn good Southern Rock songs. Too bad no knows/cares about them because of their "Hey let's fuck!" songs.

So, tomorrow is my last day of work for the summer. I've been working at a non-partisan think tank since mid-June on a project with a professor that involves public deliberation (basically, the public discussing and deciding on public policy solutions.) I was bummed that it was ending, that I wouldn't be getting paid anymore, and that I would have to look for the next step in my career.

Until yesterday, when my professor came to visit and got an extension of his project approved. I will now be working on this project while I'm at school (getting paid), with all the resume benefits that come with it: continued work with a professor, contact with a semi-prestigious foundation, letters of recommendation for future internships, and the hint that they would be more than willing to hire me later in my career.

My train from Norway to Sweden earlier in the year actually got delayed by an hour and a half because the one ahead of us hit a moose. It felt almost too stereotypical to be real.

Johansson's son, Gustav, who is about to turn 11, made sure to take lots of pictures of the ordeal.

"He is saving up to buy a PlayStation so he thought he would take pictures that he could sell," Johansson said.

CNN purchased three of Gustav's pictures.

And I hate running at the gym. So boring and not as satisfying as running outside.

I always hated running at the gym cause I felt like I was making too much noise on the treadmill and thought everyone was judging me. I think running outside makes you work harder because you can't just step off of outside and end the run on the spot.

ShatteredFlame

I consider this a mountain:
http://static.panoramio.com/photos/large/14634583.jpg

There is a track in the gym around the treadmills. Pretty awesome actually. I kinda wish there was a track outside but not in this heat. (Not to mention to much sun exposure is bad for my medication)

Anyway mission accomplished, had a helluva workout.
