So I'm still doing the Quietus but from the States, and since I'm our only guy over here, "bureau chief" would be a fair definition of my duties. Here's what's lined up already and I've only been back home for about five days:

-Covering the Liturgy gig in Bloomington tonight. Had to sort the photographer and snagged a friend from IU to do it, so he'll be on the site as well.
-Interviewing Mike "Tubular Bells" Oldfield who now lives in the Bahamas next Friday, who will kill me if all I want to talk about is Tubular Bells.
-Reviewing the Seven Sisters of Sleep album. (Probably.)
-Starting work on a big piece on David Lynch and his post-Inland Empire desire to do just about everything possible except for actually make a movie.

True, but now you can call them starting July 1 and they'll tell you over the phone for $8. But you need your AP number, and I lost mine  :eyes:

Just got mine over the phone. Got a 4 in Literature! But I got a 2 in Government... :bouville: Oh well, I'm planning on taking Social Science classes anyways, so I don't need the Government credit. As for Literature, I don't need to take any classes in there now, so that's all that matters.

I am very unclear on the definition of a hip hop MC. When I looked it up recently it said the it means "Master of Ceremonies" so basically a rapper that is a good live performer. But whenever I hear the term used they don't use it in reference to a live performance. Most hip hop fans make it seem like to be an MC is to be a good lyricist. It's either most of the hip hop community doesn't know their own terminology or every source that ever posted the definition doesn't know the real definition. I am very confused.

Its kind of like a strategy/rpg game, really weirdly set up but really fun. Anyway, in the game right now, I'm just kind of grinding out trade routes and making bank on trade caravans so I can build up my army (probably have no idea what I'm talking about), so its a little mind numbing but fun. Books on tape help me pass the time in games, especially ones that aren't RPG's heavy on dialogue and reading. When games require you to read and think heavily about the situation, its hard to pay attention, so I'd rather just listen to music. When you can get into the groove of a game and not need to really concentrate on it, you can listen to the book well and concentrate on the story. I used to do it a lot when I'd grind levels in WoW, but I'm done with that game.

And I'm trying to power through A Feast For Crows by George R.R. Martin so I can start reading A Dance With Dragons the day it comes out in a week or so!

I can listen to audiobooks and spoken word stuff just fine as long as I'm playing something that doesn't have a lot of dialog.

They're my favorite heavy band to have formed in the last 20 years, honestly. I'm pretty okay with awarding them that distinction. Two Hunters is the best full-length, but if you're plucking for songs, I'd say the best ones are "Vastness and Sorrow," "I Will Lay Down My Bones Among the Rocks and Roots," "Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog," and the mighty, mighty clean-female-vox track "A Looming Resonance."

Been driving my family all over lately and since no one wants to listen to any of my CDs I have to listen to the radio. Now I don't mind stuff on the radio but damn they play the same fucking songs every hour. Pitbull, Britney Spears, Bruno Mars, and Rihanna. They give like 4 Ke$ha songs which I'm always fascinated how she sounds like absolute trash yet I still like it for some reason. The new Lady Gaga songs are just ok, nothing great but nothing bad. I miss hearing her old stuff.

Then any Katy Perry song that comes on is an absolute pleasure to listen too. But besides that I am going nuts here. :hmm:

That's why I've gotten Kreator and Nevermore shirts from there. :finger:

But most of their stuff is shit. I honestly cringe every time I walk into one, but they occasionally have some good shirts, and if you're lucky, in the clearance section.

God damnit! I hate how my house is a dead zone :bouville: I always have cell phone problems. People will often call me but my phone won't ring because there is no service for the moment. Sometimes I'll be waiting for someone to hit me up for something and I won't ever get the call and miss out on opportunities. Well one of my close friends, who I haven't talked to in a long time called me from his new home in Reno and my phone didn't go off, I just got a voice mail saying that was the new number and the only way to contact him for a while, but I didn't get the number, so I won't be able to get a hold of my friend unless he calls me again...

I totally feel your pain. Just yesterday I was in the middle of a texting conversation with this chick while I was in my basement. It had been like 25 minutes and I hadn't received a reply from her. I was like, "okay, I guess she's sick of me and doesn't want to talk anymore... I'll consolidate my losses" :( then I look at my text history, and the reply I thought I sent off 25 minutes ago never sent. :bouville: So she probably though I was the dick not responding to her. wtf.

It's definitely long if you're not used to it. If you think about a lot of contractors, for instance landscapers or irrigation techs, they'll work 14 hour days doing some pretty back-breaking work -- at least up here where the season is about seven months long. So just think about it when you're out there sweating your balls off, it could be worse! ;)

I was seeing a girl for a while who had serious addiction problems going on with her family, lots of violence and disorder within the household. Only reason we stopped seeing each other (it was never too serious, but it was getting there) was because she got the chance to move away on a scholarship to a college in the UK, which I told her to take of course. We've lost touch over the last couple of years, but I do know she hasn't set foot in Ireland since she moved away, so I'm glad she got out of there.

Well, here's something interesting.

My sister-in-law told me today that sometime in 1992 when she still lived in LA (lives with in SFO now married to my brother) she met Henry Rollins under very amusing circumstances. She says she and her friends walked into a taxidermist's office to check out some of the animal heads they had on their walls, when she noticed Henry fucking Rollins at the desk. She started talking to him, and it turned out he was getting his cat stuffed because he was having a hard time getting over it's death. If I'm not wrong, she said he let loose a tear or two during their talk too. ^^

My girlfriend and I have been together for a little over a year now, and overall I guess things with her parents aren't too bad. Honestly it's a bit of the reverse of the stereotype, as I get along much better with her father than her mother. That's largely aided by the fact that her dad's favorite band is Maiden and he is a fellow Flyers fan, so at least we have shit to talk about, haha. Her mom can be a bit more annoying at times - One of those weird circumstances when you actually get along with someone, you just don't really like them as a person. I've definitely had my issues with them (and them with me) in the past, but overall things have gotten a lot better over time, which is only natural - I think they realize at this point that our relationship is serious, and we're very committed to it and eachother, and her daughter could've ended up with someone much, much worse, haha.

One of my past girlfriends had a father who was an alcoholic that would beat her sometimes and an older brother that raped her repeatedly when she was younger. She was afraid to call child services because her brother threatened to kill her and her mom said if they ever showed up to investigate they would move to New York.

I'm dealing with a girl now who has similar issues. She's incredibly psychologically damaged and it's actually really tough for her. Straight up crazy when I look at her life in comparison to mine.

So I just had this long debate with my Mom about religion after she tried to get me to watch this motivational DVD about living your life to your fullest. The problem is, it was all from a "Because God wants you to be the best you can be", which I obviously disagree with. I just feel a little frustrated now, since I was telling her, "Ma, I don't believe in God," and she just kept saying, "you don't THINK you believe in God".

No, I DEFINITELY don't believe in God. I'm athiest, mom.

"Oh, you're just questioning your faith".

Uh, no questioning. Pretty sure I know what I believe in.

"You're just young, you think you know everything."

Oh, not the fucking "I'm too young" card. Just 'cause I'm not decrepit and married doesn't mean that I'm young. Goddammit, just acknowledge the fact!

Both my parents are strong Christians. I used to debate with them when I was younger but now I realize the futility of it.

Now if a Christian's willing to delve deeper into the subject, and talk about some Kierkegaard or something, I'll eat that shit up. Or how Christianity is incompatible with capitalism, or something beyond the generic drivel. Otherwise, I usually stay out of it.

Pretty much my life story. But yeah exactly, If it sounds good, I like it, regardless of what genre it is in or it's fan base. Though sometimes a fan base can kill it for me, like Suicide Silence currently, with everyone saying how their new album is album of the year

I don't understand why so many people here talk as if they're part of some lonely, lowly, "discriminated against," fanbase that likes -core. There seems to be a large number of people here who like some, if not a lot, of -core bands, and there are certainly waaay more people among the general public that like -core bands (as compared to black/doom/etc bands). You shouldn't talk like you're in a minority.

It's probably because I associate myself more with the death metal/tech death crowd rather than fans of -core genres. I wear Behemoth, Nile, Faceless, and Psycroptic shirts all the time! And most people here who I love and think are hilarious tend to hate -core, so I don't want to offend anyone with my tastes.

Tell us how it is. Personally, those movies had gone downhill for me. They just don't do the books justice.

Sorry, I haven't been on the computer much lately. I personally loved the movie despite there being noticeable differences than in the book. As a movie it was great, but if you just compare it to the books then it will just be a cool fantasy film for you. To be honest, I was crying throughout the film when Snape, Fred, Remus, and Tonks all died :eyes: It was a great way to end the franchise though. LONG LIVE HP!

So its the 2nd day of the 10 day family vacation in Mexico and hey, this fucking blows!

It wasnt my choice to go with. I told my family Id rather be working but they basically begged me to go with so I said screw it, this should be fun.

The resort age limit is 16 and over so I thought that I could be meeting people my age with their families and not worry about little kids. Turns out this resort is meant for couples because that's all Ive been seeing. I've seen maybe one or two people my age or my sisters age (20 and 17). This is some bullshit. Its gonna be the same shit for 8 more days. Get up, eat breakfast, go to the beach, eat lunch, more beach, eat dinner, do nothing after, repeat tomorrow. This is NOT worth missing Exhumed for, or any good stuff I'm missing back home. What's worse is that I can't find cigarettes anywhere, because I could sure use one now. Hope you're at least staying at an all-inclusive resort. When I was down at one about ten years ago I just drank pina coladas all day at the swim-up bar, and peed the most I've ever peed in my life. We went to a different restaurant each night, and they were all killer. And yeah, go out and explore. Get a taxi and go to some ruins or shit.
8 days did get monotonous, but hey, just make the most of it.

The beach is great, don't get me wrong but staying out in the sun and swimming for 6 hours a day for 10 days is not my idea of fun. And we flew here so we can't do much about driving... In all honesty there's not much here that I would consider fun. I knew this from the beginning, I've been dragged to these family vacations at mexican resorts since I was a kid and it got boring after the 2nd time. I shouldve objected more when my family was trying to convince me to go, at least I know I didn't miss out on much when they went last year and I stayed home.

I could be drinking but it's boring doing it by myself. I really am trying to make the best of it but there's not much to do... at least the food is good. And it is all inclusive. We do have access to other resorts nearby so I could try that

A few friends and I are working on a Maiden Tribute Project - don't want to say it's for a one-off because it could definitely lead to multiple shows, but just in our spare time for fun. We got together for the first time this past weekend and it was a great time. I'll be playing Adrian Smith's parts.

Our song list looks like this at the moment:
01 The Wicker Man
02 2 Minutes to Midnight
03 Wrathchild
04 Revelations
05 Flight of Icarus
06 Wasted Years
07 Powerslave
08 The Evil That Men Do
09 The Trooper
10 Iron Maiden
11 Hallowed Be Thy Name

That will be the "core" of the set, but we're also gonna be working on rehearsing Fear of the Dark, 22 Acacia Avenue, Moonchild, Die With Your Boots On, Losfer Words, and even possibly something else off of Somewhere In Time. There's even whispers of attempting Alexander the Great.
