I'm going to start looking up a hotel to stay at next month near Universal Studios for the A Perfect Circle show. I know its only 35/40 minutes from my house, but I'm planning on drinking heavily with the girl I'm bringing, so I should be somewhat responsible that night. She's obsessed with Maynard and has the same drinking problem I have, where we don't want to cut ourselves off and keep going:tongue: Hopefully I can find something within walking distance of the Gibson.

I tried hookah tonight. I find it to be pretty pointless. It's like smoking a laffy taffy.

Yeah... it kind of is. I still do it, though :D Try peach flavors, they're my fav.

Just got an on the phone job interview with Home Depot.....blew my mind. Like seriously, it transfers you from one automated voice messaging systems to another, asking you questions on the way. Then at the end(2 minutes in) I finally get transferred to an actual human and she sounded so high, her voice just kept becoming more and more incoherent. Sometimes she was yelling and other times she spoke so low that I couldn't hear . I was offered a job but the hours sucked 8PM-12AM MON-FRI , no can do. But great wake up call.

Fucking horrified, apparently these are the top ten most popular bands this week in Russia (Last.FM stats):

1) Limp Bizkit
2) Muse (Approve of)
3) Linkin Park
4) Radiohead (Approve of)
5) Placebo (Approve of)
6) The Beatles (Approve of)
7) Nirvana (Approve of)
8) Depeche Mode (Approve of)
9) System of a Down (Approve of)
10) Red Hot Chili Peppers (Approve of... reluctantly)

Never mind Linkin Park, how the fuck is Bizkit #1?

The real problem is I got some back problems (scoliosis) and the job will require heavy lifting/building/operating machinery. I probably got a call since I wrote on the application that I worked stage for my school's plays and did similar stuff, I did that in junior year but hated it due to a lot of heavy lifting which really took a toll on my back. So I didn't go back senior year.

My Favorite Things: Slayer's Kerry King
My Favorite Things; SPIN Interview

FAVORITE SONG:

FAVORITE ALBUM:
"AC/DC live with Bon Scott, but I did see the movie Beyond The Thunder, and it seems like he would be a cool dude to party with!"

FAVORITE MOVIE:
"Seven. It's a real heady horror flick."

FAVORITE FOOD:
"Blue Cheese crusted Filet Mignon. Because it’s delicious!"

FAVORITE RESTAURANT:
"St. Elmos in Indianapolis and Dickie Brennan in New Orleans. It’s fun when you are on tour to go a place you are familiar with in any given city. It’s like being home away form home."

"My Marshall Signature Amp. I helped design it. In the crazy world of touring if something gets stuck at customs, I can do a show with just my amp!"

FAVORITE KEEPSAKE:
"Original artwork of Christ Illusion. It was the first record that Dave did with us since he had been back and the first art we had Larry Carrol do for us since Seasons! Thought it was a cool thing to purchase."

FAVORITE WAY TO PASS TIME ON THE ROAD:
"Alcohol. Enough said."

Just had a crazy dream.

For some reason, Dave Davidson from Revocation was playing guitar for Gorguts, and for some other reason, I was supposed to play live with them. At the time, I was wearing my Revocation shirt, and was all proud of it, trying to show it off to Dave. He kept being super un-interested in me, and not caring that I had his band's shirt on. I got really sad and started to cry. Then I woke up, very depressed for some reason.

I absolutely hate that. Either:

1. Try reading a book
2. Listen to a book on tape/on iPod
3. Listen to some classical music

Whatever you do, don't listen to metal. It'll just keep you up. I regularly listen to books on tape, and always find that closing your eyes and laying in the dark while listening gets your mind off wandering, and makes you surprisingly tired very fast.

Oh shit man. I have the same problem. Life-long insomniac here.

Can you not turn your brain off? Same with me. What you need to do is, as jd said, read a book. Read until your eyelids become heavy and start closing. You're tired. Turn off your light now.

Also, something that's helped me over the past few weeks is the knowledge that humans just don't need that much sleep to begin with. As long as you get at least 5.5 hrs, you'll be able to function at 100% the next day. Honestly, it is these negative sleep thoughts (I'm never gonna fall asleep) that are the true criminal here. And don't keep tossing and turning in bed, get out and go for a walk if you're having trouble falling asleep.

One of the most important things to consider is a sleep schedule. Get up at the same time every single day. I've been getting up at 9 every day for the past few days, haven't noticed anything yet except that I'm really tired during the day, but hopefully after a week or so it'll become easier for me to fall asleep at night.

It seems like we have the same problem. When i'm in bed I keep tossing and turning and I just cant stop thinking. The past week I haven't been able to sleep until 3 am. I'm trying to wake up earlier everyday til I can regularly wake up at 9 am. I hate not getting up til noon. You feel like you just wasted a day.

Well I actually enjoy sleeping in, but it's a sacrifice that must be made. During the school year I went to bed at 12 and woke up at 7 during the week, then during the weekend went to sleep 2-3 and woke up at 11-12. That fucked up my sleep patterns so much. I've been sleeping a little better this summer, but I still have nights like those.

I listen to metal in bed every night and never have any problems sleeping. Been doing so for years.

I mean, I usually do, but if I'm listening to something heavy (not like Enslaved or Agalloch or whatnot) I find that I get energized and end up listening to way more than I should.

A couple nights ago, for example. I'm about to fall asleep and I throw on One With the Underdogs by Terror. Before I know it, I'm up an hour and a half later than I intended and I've listened to 3 full Terror albums. So from my experience, metal isn't necessarily conducive to me sleeping.

I fall asleep around 12:30-1 every night and wake up at 7 for work. It was tiring the first week, but now I've adapted I think. That's all the sleep I really need to function. During school, I'll fall asleep between 3:30 and 4 every night, and wake up at 11:30 for classes. ;)

Sweet, if everything goes as planned I'll be getting my friend's drum set after work tonight and a double bass pedal from another friend! I'm trying to get another friend's drum set as well to combine the 2 but double bass is what I'm concerned about the most.

I haven't been around here much lately, which sucks because I can't discover new music if I'm not seeking it out. I came across Powerwolf, Falconer, Swan King, and 40 Watt Sun today. I also need to buy the new In Flames, which I finally had the time to listen to today.

Anyway, I started a new job two weeks ago. I'm doing research/data entry/analysis at a nonpartisan thinktank. Plus I'm about to jump onto two other polisci research projects (paid). All of that on top of my duties as Editor-in-Chief of the polisci journal at OSU, working out, reading leisurely, and spending time with my family. Its going to be a busy summer....

But hey, I get to buy myself a beer in two weeks, so its all good. :D

Just sayin', this has to be one of the worst put together lists I've ever seen. Top 50 albums of the first half of 2011, from Guitar World.

http://www.guitarworld.com/guitar-worlds-50-best-albums-first-half-2011#slide-1

Let me spare you the shit:

#10- Asking Alexandria
#12 -Children of Bodom
#13 - Morbid Angel
#18 - Black Veil Brides
#40 - Winds of Plague

I want to fucking write a letter to guitar world to tell them how stupid they are. The new Amon Amarth and Scale the Summit were 42 and 43, respectively, below all that other shit. How out of touch can you be with music? Not to mention a whole world of other great metal albums that weren't included. Fuck that magazine.

Two things I'm worried about when seeing Ben Folds in a week:

1. Not a big deal, but I don't think I'll be seeing any songs that I haven't seen before. I'm not too afraid of him just doing a "LOL HITS" setlist anytime soon, but the last time I saw him at this venue the crowd was terrible, so they might only respond to lol hits

2. He's going to do his fucking cover of that fucking Kesha song and I am really not looking forward to it. It's dumb. His cover of that Dr. Dre song was dumb, too.

I hate to sound like a soccer mom but if an artist tells their fans to smoke weed that is pretty fucked up. It's ok to talk about these kind of things in your songs but telling your fans to do it is really crossing the line. Sure anyone who listens to Curren$y is probably already smokes pot but still. 2 good friends of mine are big Curren$y fans, I don't like him very much. Wow...you guys are taking it way too seriously. In the end, it is completely up to the fans decision to smoke the weed or not. Telling someone to smoke weed is definitely not crossing the line because that person can just say no and thats that. There are a lot of metal bands that will tell their fans to go kill/rape people and other stupud shit, but we all know its out of humor.

This kid also posts videos of himself burning bibles on YouTube. Look, I hate the bible as much as any metalhead, but to film yourself burning a bible is just plain disrespectful and even pretty rude. And if any of his future potential employers stumble upon these videos, I don't think they'll be giving him a job. He's making some terrible fucking decisions, that's for sure :tp:

In reference to the earlier religious debate and also about bands endorsing various actions like smoking weed, personally, the epitomy of a band endorsing a stupid fad and/or opinion on their fans, is the 'Jesus Is A Cunt' shirts CoF released. Its not even precting a religious opinion, its just pointing out he was not a nice guy. Its like saying Lars Ulrich is an asshole. I'm sure he is, but that has no bearing on the music he creates, or has any relevance to any debate about him that his fans SHOULD be having.

I might not be understanding what you're trying to say, but Jesus, in really every instance, was a really nice guy and only preached tolerance and love.

Where crazy right-wing fundies get their extremism and norwegian black metal bands get their hate are mostly from the Old Testament God.

Yeah, I don't even like to wear shirts where Jesus is the centerpiece because I fear a lynch mob is going to chase after me (Translated without the hyperbole = everybody I run into in public will get pissed at me most likely) I have a couple shirts like that and I only wear them to concerts. That's why I don't buy any shirts with huge provocative messages on the back of them. You're just asking for a confrontation with those.

Yeah but on the other extreme you have these new age Christians that preach only New Testament sentiment while ignoring the Old Testament altogether. I can't take either of those two groups seriously. You can't just throw out half the book so that it makes your worldview seem better.

Nope. There was a verse in the Bible where Jesus said to only beat your slaves lightly when they made a mistake and to beat them severely when they disobeyed you on purpose. Anyway the bible is old and outdated and I'm sure that was tolerance and love for back then.

A sunny summer day does nothing unless you let it, and it doesn't disprove anything. The only meaning in life is the meaning we create. There's nothing intrinsic about it.

All morals are false, all emotions are true. Morals are imprints that are subject to change. And they differ in different reality tunnels.

Pragmatism is much more interesting than science to me now, simply because of the ambiguity of everything. It paints a picture of the world in abstractness which seems to be a more 'concrete' model than a scientific model. And by concrete I mean ambiguous.

Yeah, it's kind of a dark outlook. But it's also liberating to think value and meaning are constructs of the self, and not limited to what naturally exists, or congenital.

And did you take a philosophy class or something? Or were you just born a nerd? ;)

 I guess you could say I was born a nerd. I mean, I constantly asked my loving parents questions about the universe and such at a young age. I didn't get into philosophy and history until my early high school years, though. And no, I've never taken a philosophy course.

I actually had two relationships like that, I was single, they weren't, but they were going through a rough patch where the relationship looked like it was gonna end at any point..
