Just something I had been giving some thought to, so I figured I'd post this as an open question for everyone. This is open to any/all artists, regardless of if they released anything in 2010, or hell, the past 10 years. I don't expect people to have exact figures (considering even a Last.fm page won't be totally accurate). Just a guess of the 5 artists you listened to the most in the past year.

My own list, not ranked:
1) Avantasia
2) Kansas
3) Seventh Wonder
4) Billy Joel
5) Gotthard
Just a guesstimate. Some of the "old favorites" (Maiden/Savatage/Blind Guardian) may have outranked some of these in total plays throughout the course of the year just by habit, but these were definitely the 5 artists that have defined this past year for me in terms of overall listening.

Hmm... difficult. To be honest, I listen to so much stuff in a year that not a lot of bands get much repeat listening. And I have my mp3 player on shuffle all the time.
However, if I had to guess:
Guns N' Roses
Therion
Annihilator
Alice Cooper
Kreator

I just started using last.fm so I'm gonna estimate, in no order
Torche
Clutch
Megadeth
Queens of the Stone Age
With a steady diet of Baroness, Sabbath, Mastodon, Kyuss and Creedence. I have noticed even before this thread, that I don't listen to Meshuggah almost ever anymore.

My last.fm is accurate:
Katatonia - 771
Wolfbrigade - 662
Devin Townsend (though I do scrobble DTB and DTP under this name also) - 605
Asphyx - 521
Wu-Tang Clan - 486
And according to Normalisr - a last.fm app that bases your charts on the amount of minutes I listened to:
Katatonia - 3585 minutes
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - 3351 minutes
Agalloch - 3312 minutes
Devin Townsend - 2994 minutes
Isis - 2759 minutes

Tough without a last.fm, but I'll take a stab:
Blind Guardian
Alcest
Iron Maiden
Coheed and Cambria
Atheist
Maybe something like that, which leaves out tons more.

Over the last month I started listening to Avantasia. If I had gotten into them earlier in the year they would probably have made the top five. Since Rush and Maiden are my top two bands of all time, they will always be numbers one and two with me on lists like this.

Hard to tell since only about 1/3 of my music listening is scrobbled to last.fm (rest is on my ipod which isn't set to scrobble or on my stereo). But as a rough guess my top 5 most listened for this year would be:
1. Motoi Sakuraba*
2. Capcom Sound Team*
3. Pain of Salvation
4. Iron Maiden
5. Black Sabbath
*This is completely honest, this was the year where I just listened to a ton of video game music, possibly those two composer's more than any other individual bands. :eyes: The other 3 have more obvious reasons why I might have been heavily into them this year.
If I were to guess...
Morbid Angel
Immortal
Dissection
Kreator
Judas Priest

I have no cool technological way to prove this, so like others I am going to have to venture a guess.
Let's do it this way...I'll just list ten bands I listened to a hell of a lot, in no particular order, and we'll say that the top five is probably in there. :D
High on Fire - they are definitely in the top five - I listen to them when I work out all the time
Lair of the Minotaur - I damn near wore my copy of "Evil Power" the fuck out this year :fist:
Red Sparowes - ditto above comment for LotM...I'm lucky my copy of TFIEBTLTA still plays
Triptykon - listened to the album a ton when I first bought it, and then a bunch more just before (and after) I saw them live :rocker:
The Ocean - between both of their new albums and some listening to their old stuff now and then, I'd say they are a lock for top five as well
Isis - because I always listen to a shitload of Isis, and I played them a lot in tribute when I heard that they were breaking up this year :(
Kylesa - unlike "Static Tensions", their new album had to grow on me - and that took a while, so yeah - lots of playing time...
Howl - one of my favorite new discoveries of this year, I played the shit out of their album
Karma to Burn - most rifftastic album of the year - hands down...this one was my main soundtrack for whenever I drove my Mustang this year :fist:
God Is an Astronaut - their new one just blew me away...it's just so damn smooth it's fucking disgusting...I had that one in my car stero for WEEKS
So, yeah. The top five most played are definitely in that list somewhere. :D
