That's the exact opposite of mine.

Correct.

Aside from the last five minutes 'Lift' (song one disc one) and the whole song 'Antennas' (song two disc two) I never cared for that album at all. I always thught they could've easily trimmed ten minuted somewhere and made it a single dic.

I do like the liner notes, I've always wondered what the story behind that punk band in the booklet is. They look German.

Your list for Slayer blows dude, the new Slayer is the best.

I am actually just curious as to your justification for such a remark?

It took me a long time to get into Alien, but now I think it's one of (if not) the most genius albums the Dev has ever done. Get a nice pair of headphones and listen to it as loud as you can, and see if it clicks

And as for SYL and The New Black being horrid? No. Just no.

I for the most part perfer new Immortal to the old both are great tho. I can't stand the production on Blizzard Beasts, imo its beyond horrible so thats why thats under All Shall Fall. Which I thought wasnt really great, sounded like sons of northern darkness 2 but lacked what made that one great.

Deicide:
1. Legion
2. Deicide
3. Scars of the Crucifix
4. the Stentch of Redemption
5. Once Upon the Cross
6. To Hell With God
7. Serpents of the Light
8. 'Till Death Do Us Part
9. In Torment in Hell (has two songs I actually like)
10. Insineratehym (has zero songs I like)

We'll see where the new album ranks in but I have a funny feeling it will be in the 6 or 7 spot.

Yeah, that would be mine. No other order would really even make sense. The Mantle is a close 2nd though; In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion is still probably my favorite Agalloch song.

Frankly, I can understand switching The Mantle and Marrow because they're both close. I took The Mantle because its of melancholy is so perfect and the acoustic elements are top notch.

In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion is easily in their top 5, but Limbs and Bloodbirds always will share the top spot at the top of the Agalloch pyramid.

I like Marrow the most because its black metal influnces are way more prominent than on the other 3. IMO it flows the best and is the most choesive. Pale Folklore is the only other cd of theirs that I love whole thing. Ashes has more songs that I like than The Mantle.

At first I thought that too, but for me it was getting used to Black Lake Nidstang. Which is probably the weirdest and most expiermental song they've done at this point. That was always the point of the CD which I thought it lost its course, but it grew on me
Why do you think it really lacks cohesiveness?

Black Lake certainly is the most out there song that they've done to date, as is the album as a whole, in fact. I think that songs like Into the Painted Grey and parts of Watcher's Monolith don't really decide where they want to be in the black metal spectrum. Into the Painted Grey starts like a total rocker but then sort of pusses out and wants to be a Mantle-ish sort of brooding song. It didn't really make for consistency throughout the album, like The Mantle and Ashes did.

I thought the exact opposite lol. With songs like Into The Painted Grey and Ghosts of the Midwinter Fires, they had finally found a perfect balance between black metal and folk infused post rock. The songs I thought switched seemsley with the best transistions they've had yet, and only let up so you could catch your breath before bringing their blackend assault again. Best example Into The Painted Grey which is my favorite song on the cd. The only aspects I didn't like were the analogue production and the clean vocals. The production didnt allow the music to have a more fuller sound and a better low end, which would have done the music more justice (mostly the drums). The clean vocals on The Watcher's Monolith I thought were really forced Ashes had some like it but difinatly not as bad as this. The Mantle probably has my favorite clean vocals.

(Been listening to them for 6 years and I've never heard St. Anger and I don't really have the urge to)

:eek:Only been familiar with METALLICA for 6 years?????

I always find it interesting to see the different perceptions of METALLICA based on how long someone has been listening to them.

I have been into them since RIDE THE LIGHTNING.
I actually lived through all their transformations, from the death of Cliff, to mainstream attention with Justice and the One video, the breakthrough of the BLACK album making them a household name, the image changes and loss of most of their core fanbase, all the way back through to their recent attempts at redemption.

Personally, I have always found something enjoyable on every album, even ST ANGER. Overall though, it is easily their worst and honestly probably should NEVER have been released. It is an album full of ideas which never properly developed into actual quality "songs" if you will.

Anyhow, as a long time fan, I wanted to reply to your statement that you only have been familiar with them for 6 years.

I am always curious. Are RTL and PUPPETS favorites because when you got into them, you knew those were the "Classic" albums of theirs, or was it because you listened to all of them at the same time and those clicked for you personally?

For me, and my friends its the latter. None of us had even really read a metal magaine at the point when we bought those records, and I was the only one with an older sibling into alternative music, and my brother was a punk fan. We bought St. Anger, liked it, then between us got everything else, and the first four were the ones that REALLY stuck. Black fell away around the age of 18, and Load and Reload get occasional listens for specific songs. We honestly had NO clue of the first four records significance until after we bough them.

Well, i'm 18 years old, and I started listening to them when I was in middle school. That's why I've only been into them for 6 years. The first Metallica album I bought was Kill 'em All. I don't remember the particular order I bought them in, but when I was younger AJFA and MoP were my favorites, I think, and I always thought Load was the worst. Over the years I've kind of grown out of them, but I still like them. When I listen to the albums now, I don't really look at them the same way I did before, because I don't absolutely worship them like I did when I was younger. But now whenever I listen to the albums, whatever I posted earlier was my ranking for the albums.

I always find it interesting to see the different perceptions of METALLICA based on how long someone has been listening to them.

You may be interested in this then...

My dad got into Metallica not long after they formed. He recalls seeing them play in a skate park in Fullerton, CA and at small clubs where he would be the only one headbanging to them. He knew the band, but was closest to Dave. When the band printed their first shirts Dave drove over to my grandparents house to give a bunch to my dad to sell them at his high school. My grandma, being a rather religious person, did not approve of my dad's taste in music and threw all of the shirts in the garbage when she found them. But anyway... my dad remained acquaintances with Dave after he was kicked out, but they grew distant rather quickly with Dave's drug abuse. My dad continued supporting both Metallica and Megadeth. He recalls that when Kill 'em All was released he carried the cassette with him everywhere he went, and listened to it constantly. I know he also loved Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets, the former being his favorite album by them, if I recall correctly.

On record he was a bigger Megadeth fan though. Killing Is My Business is still his favorite Megadeth album. He said he enjoyed Peace Sells a lot as well, but that the title track was an abomination and he was highly disappointed that Dave replaced "Set the World Afire" with "I Ain't Superstitious". He mentioned that Metallica was far superior to Megadeth in a live setting, always playing tight and with a good stage presence. Megadeth on the other hand was incredibly sloppy live as Dave and the rest of the band would usually come on stage loaded.

Both ...And Justice for All and So Far, So Good left him mildly disappointed, and he began to lose interest after that. Although he admits Rust in Peace is a good album, by that time he didn't listen to Megadeth very much anymore, so he never got into it. With the release of Metallica's black album he stopped supporting the band completely.

After that he went on a metal hiatus and became absorbed in the grunge scene. He's got back into metal since then (mostly death metal) and at this point in time he really doesn't care for either band. The Big 4 shows are a total joke to him and he's lost all respect for Dave and Metallica.

Are Within Temptation actually really popular? They're playing Terminal 5 in the city, and that's a 3,000 capacity venue, and I just don't see them being that popular, but then again it is a female singer band, so who knows.

I doubt they'd fill Terminal 5. I'm not a fan of a lot that they put out, but I like The Silent Force and Enter. There's a lot of bands that do the symphonic female fronted thing a lot better than they do.

psshhh, this is coming straight from you:

"Yeah, I get that from a lot of people. The Codex Necro is pretty much 110% extreme music (and at times not even that) that I wouldn't recommend to a lot of people unless they're really well-versed in extreme types of music. Back when their forums were still active, Dave said he took a lot of influence from noise artists like Whitehouse and Masonna, and I think getting a taste for them really helped me like The Codex Necro more."

Marshall Mathers LP is definitely my favorite rap album that I've heard, and Recovery is undoubtedly the worst thing Eminem's come out with.

I think Recovery has some cool stuff on it, but it would still be in the bottom two. I still wasn't a fan of Encore outside of Yellow Brick Road, Toy Soldiers and like two others.

While the lyrics are not as bold or as clever, and the attitude certainly is mellow, I really enjoy the flows Eminem has on Recovery.

Untitled, No Love, Seduction, Space Bound all have beastly flows. Almost Famous goes hard.

I like Untitled. My problem with Recovery is that it sounds way too much like mainstream rap does nowadays. When alot of people didn't like Relapse (for whatever reason, I thought it was a great album), he scrapped the sequel and tried to appeal to the masses, I believe.

I think you're confusing me with Ben, gramps. Half of you young pups on here have trouble with the fairer sex - I can't possibly be expected to remember which ones of you do and which ones don't. :finger:

(Besides...obviously, it was more about making the joke about not knowing where to "stick it" than it was about whether you actually have girl trouble or not.)

...

Anyway, I just wanted to say that you are not even fucking close to being worthy of the following line in your sig:

WITTR/Indian/Bloodiest - 9/1

Okay, fine. I'm jelly as fuck. I admit it.

But still, you are not worthy. The two opening acts have released two of the most unbelievably awesome albums out there this year, and the headliner will clearly be doing the same thing soon enough. I would literally consider inflicting serious bodily injury on someone if it meant that I could actually attend this show.

Have a good time, fuckface. Be sure to post them damn setlists. :bouville: :flame: :finger2:

But as I said, it's brand new. Plenty of albums can really strike you as great but you never know if it will stand the test of time just from a few listens. When Megadeth's Endgame first came out I thought it was one of their best albums. I still like it but I like it much less then when it was first released because some of it didn't last very long and got old after a while.

It's not a horrible album or anything, but I've always found it to be very flat. There aren't any real high points for me... Sign of the Southern Cross is great and so is Falling Off the Edge of the World, but there's really just not a lot to like. I've also always thought the bass was way too high in the mix -- not that I don't love Geezer, but come on.

Napalm Death

1. the Code is Red…Long Live the Code
2. Enemy of the Music Business
3. Smear Campaign
4. Leaders Not Followers
5. From Enslavement to Oblivion
6. Time Waits for No Slave
7. Scum
8. Order of the Leech
9. Leaders Not Followers pt. 2
10. Fear, Emptiness, Dispair
11. Inside the Torn Apart
12. Diatribes
13. Harmony Corruption

It's hard to rank their albums because anything from 1994-1999 and 2000-present is pretty much interchangeable.

I haven't heard Utopia Banished or Words from the Exit Wound, yet.
The covers album is better than FETO?

The covers album is better than FETO?

It's really, really good. Short, brutal and to the point. If you ask me it started the tear that they've been on the last 10+ years after a weak last half of the 1990's.

2. Last Fair Deal Gone Down
3. Discouraged Ones
4. Brave Murder Day
5. Dance of December Souls
6. Viva Emptiness
7. Night Is the New Day
8. The Great Cold Distance

BLIND GUARDIAN is my favorite band, but it becomes really difficult to determine my order of preference after:

1. Somewhere Far Beyond
2. Tales from the Twilight World
3. Imaginations from the Other Side
4. Nightfall in Middle-Earth.

All I know is that 'A Twist in the Myth' is easily my least favorite of their albums. 'Follow the Blind' and 'Battalions of Fear' are just about even for me, as they both sate my hunger for raw, killer speed metal. 'A Night at the Opera' is a great album but for some reason I don't listen to it that much (probably because of the dense, slightly muddy production), and 'At the Edge of Time' strikes me as a very satisfying album, except that it has one ballad too many. But the top four are pretty certain (maybe switch 'Tales' and 'Imaginations' as the fit takes me).

I'd swap it with Discouraged Ones and bump Viva Emptiness up a spot or two, then we're good ;)

Very true. I love Hell Awaits. Doesn't sound like any other Slayer album to me. No filler on there, either.
