View Full Version : Rammstein -- New York, NY -- December 11th, 2010

There is no word that can describe an experience like seeing Rammstein live. It's intense. It's spiritual. It's relentless. More importantly, it's. fucking. hot.

Till Lindemann was spot on. Paul and Richard were very energetic. Christoph is a god damn machine. Ollie is a bass player worth being heard, but, unfortunately, he was not. At least from where I was. And Flake... he is a fucking madman.

I've been listening to this band since I was 7 years old. I have been waiting for this day for the last 12 years. It was nothing short of ridiculous. Better than anything I could have expected.

Below is an updated setlist along with all of the stage antics and pyro (that I can remember):

Rammleid - opening note along with all the chords in the chorus came with a loud BOOM and fireworks
B******* - Flake starts dancing around the stage like a lunatic
Weidmann's Hail
Keine Lust
Weisses Fleisch
Feuer Frei - so much fire
Weiner Blut - at the beginning of the song, 2 lines with babies hanging from them come down from the ceiling of the stage, all of which have these green laser lights for eyes. at the end of the song, all of them explode.
Fruhling in Paris
Ich tu Dir Weh - After Flake kicks him to the ground, Till picks the pianist up and puts him in this wheel barrow. Till then gets on this pillar that starts rising about 10 feet in the air. He then pours a bucket of what seems to be FIRE into the wheelbarrow. At the end of the song, Flake comes out of his container, dressed in this silver suit that shined brighter than any light and continues to dance like a lunatic
Du Richt so Gut
Benzin - Till brings out this gas pump (literally something that looks like a pump you'd see at a gas station) and in the middle of the song, he sets someone on fire. I think it was staged to look like someone hopped on stage and that guy got set on fire. Very intense.
Links 2-3-4
Du Hast
Pussy - At the end of the song, the stagehands bring out this giant aluminum penis that ejaculates foam all over the audience

Sonne - crazy light show
Haifisch
Ich Will

Engel - Till comes out with these giant metal angel wings with flame throwers at the tips

If I've left anything out, please inform me

and no, the song "Rammstein" was not played.

I'm actually surprised that MSG didn't burn down in flames from all the pyrotechnics.

How was the show?

NEED REVIEW NAO

1. "Rammstein" at the top as in the band's setlist, or they opened with the song Rammstein?

2. No Buch Dich? :bawling:

edit: holy shit this sounds awesome

It would be nice if I was wrong, but I'm pretty sure he just put Rammstein to show the band name, followed by the setlist.

2. No Buch Dich? :bawling:

they haven't played that song live since their last tour here, I think which was 2001? it was the pledge of allegiance tour, cause I went.

more on topic....

Was MSG packed? I wanted to go, but buttfucking scalpers basically bought a lot of the tickets hindering actual fans from getting to go.

it was full capacity. all those scalpers were probably selling fakes. I have never seen that many people at a show before.

worst band. some of the most mindless, simplistic music i've ever heard. I'd love to see pics of the crowd that went to this.

that being said, that stage show sounds insanely cool and entertaining. It's also badass they could sell out the garden.

did anyone open?

MSG was packed to the hilt. and Most suites and boxes had people in them as well.

Hands down, the most pyro, most fire, most stage production i've ever seen in a rock show. Many old time metal bands could learn a thing or two by seeing rammstein live. You wanna sell out the Garden, and make a huge buzz on the internet. Check out Rammstein. Their production costs, the HUGE set (constantly changing as the night went on), the custom lights, lasers, TONS of pyro, (the kerosene/gas bill must be ridiculous, literally every song had a different method of shooting fire 20 feet into the air), put everything i've seen in the last 10 years to shame. The ticket cost was $79.50+$12.75, for floor section 9. 1/3 floor was G.A. then 2/3 floor was seated, by comparison, Ozzy last week was $89.50+$13.70, his MSG show was only 2/3 to 3/4 full, and the show was OK, great to see him, but he didn't have 15,000 people chanting his songs. His fire had no comparison, his foam rifle was nothing compared to the cannon mentioned above. Ozzy had the big video screen behind him. Rammstein, no video screen, but didn't need it, when the show is about crunching music, massive pyro and the presence of the band, especially the singer. What a performance. I was rivited.

I never in my life would have believed 15,000 people in new york city would know all those german lyrics. It was simply unbelieveable!

If you thought Combichrist sounded like Slipknot, go ahead and go listen to Justin Bieber. He sounds just like Iron Maiden.

I've seen Combichrist live twice, and they put on a great show. They are a perfect opener for Rammstein.

Combichrist are a fucking ebm band. They sound nothing like Slipknot or Maiden.

Basically they are an post-Reznor industrial band with a bit of a rhythmic noise influence to their sound.

Well you'd have to think people outside of New York went. I'm assuming people from at least the rest of the Northeastern US flocked to MSG to see this show.

Speaking of which, They were in Montreal on the 9th and in New York on the 11th. They had a day off on the 10th. WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T THEY DO A SHOW IN TORONTO ON THAT DAY!!!

A word from the wise:

"Slipknot are nothing to do with rock 'n' roll. They're not a rock band, they've got no tunes, no chords or choruses. They have no idea how to behave on stage and they wear masks and red boiler suits, I just don't see any redeeming features; well maybe one - they're pretty good at disguises. I came from The Beatles and Little Richard, they come from the circus. Maybe I'm too old to get it, but I don't mind because they're crap."

Just look at the interest this thread has generated, 2,300 reads in 3 days!

I had a hell of a time finding a recent setlist for them on line before this show, nothing on setlist fm (heard their mgmt theatened them or something??). I am no Rammstein expert, but I had pieced the setlist together with my limited knowledge, but the young man posted the set before me, cause I went to my local bar in uptown manhattan to drink more beer that didn't cost $9 bucks a bottle! (Ridiculous price, totall robbery!) and to tell of my revelation that night! I still can't believe how much fire and flame I saw. It really was crazy!

Now some answers:

Yes of course there we're people waving german flags, Uruguayan flags, etc. others, but i gotta tell ya the crazy american teens standing next to me were banging their fists on their knees like the singer, they knew all the words, all the cues. I was amazed. Talked to a metal fan (Nile t-shirt) that flew up from florida to see this! I had just seen ozzy there 9 days before and the energy in there couldn't have been more different considering it's essentailly the same demographic buying tix. Those pictures posted here are excellent representations of what happened. I'll have to go to youtube and see whats going on.

BTW, made 2 circles around the garden after, looking for t-shirt bootlegs... NOTHING! Seems either they didn't bother with the one-off show, (no tour), or the plain clothes cops had snuffed them out. The actual Rammstein merch was selling well $35 for shirts, the custom event shirt with the burning statue of liberty was gone before they even played! all over i saw the vendors getting the last shirts off the wall, after the show!

Yeah, I think you are. Coming from a younger crowd here, Rammstein was one of the first bands that got my friends and I into heavy metal. I remember back on my little middle school football team, we would all chant along to the lyrics of Engel before we went onto the field for a a game. :D I mean, none of us knew what any of it meant, but German sounded so cool and evil to sing in. Most everyone I grew up with is familiar with Rammstein, almost to the level of Metallica in their popularity.

I'm 32, been listening to metal for over 20 years and know virtually nothing from Rammstein or anyone who likes them. I remember the song 'Du Hast' being popular whenever that album came out but nothing else after that. To say that they're at a popularity level that's close to Metallica the funniest thing i've ever read on here.

The reason they sold out MSG is quite simple. It has nothing to do with them being insanely popular at all. The fact is they haven't toured here in forever, they played MSG on a saturday night and it was their only US date announced. So you got fans from all over North America to make a weekend trip to NYC and see them. That's the reason they sold the place out.

They may have a good following but if this wasn't a special one time only performance they wouldn't have had a chance in hell of selling out MSG.

I was about to say the same thing you just said.

Although, I would add that since they haven't toured the US in 10 years, it's hard to say what their potential draw really is. My personal opinion is that if they toured the US once per album cycle (every 2-4 years), they could probably sell out a few arena shows, like New York/Chicago/Los Angeles. Maybe one or two other major markets that are not geographically near those 3, like Texas or Florida. But I don't think they could do a full US tour of every major market and still sell out arenas.

The problem is it doesn't make financial sense for them to bring their whole stage setup halfway across the world just to play a few shows. Fortunately they seem to have found success in Canada and South America too, so hopefully they can string a bunch of dates together across North/South America so it makes financial sense to come back.

I'm not making a statement on how the whole of the US feels about them, I'm just talking about my personal experiences growing up, and their popularity in the town I was from in Ohio. There were definitely just as many Rammstein fans as Metallica fans in my middle school and high school, if not more.

there's a curiosity about them bc of their stage show & theatrics. Everyone i know who went (about 5 people) all think the band is complete shit but wanted to see their stage show.

couple that with sanitarium's summation and u have the reason they sold the place out.

i equate the curiosity about them similar to cradle of filth back about 11 years ago or so when they barely played shows here yet sold out alot of bigger venues bc people wanted to know what all the hub bub was about. yes i just used the word hub bub.
