Here's Blabbermouth's article on it. They're saying that Disturbed, Godsmack, and Megadeth on the main stage. They're also saying that Machine Head, Trivium, and In Flames are rotating for the main stage opener slot. Confirmed side stage bands are: SUICIDE SILENCE, UNEARTH, STRAIGHT LINE STITCH, ALL SHALL PERISH, KINGDOM OF SORROW.

And it also says the lineup date has been postponed until January 31st, idk where they got that.

Other than straight line stitch and godsmack its looking to be a killer year :rocker:

The rotating Main Stage thing doesn't make any sense to me. Are the other two that don't play Main Stage headline the Side Stages?

Maybe they might like make it where they rotate positions like ozzfest and reduce the side stage to one stage. Just a guess.

No they have too many bands to do that. I'm guessing the side stage headliners/main stage opener will be on a rotation.

Dammit. I just wish there was ONE legit awesome band on the lineup from extreme metal, like Suffocation or Vader or something. Probably will never happen.

I would want to go if the rumors are true that Megadeth and Disturbed are on the same bill. Can somebody tell me how much the price range has been for tickets to Mayhem Festival in the past? Just wanna know the typical price range because I don't want to get my hopes up if it's too expensive.

I think that livenation will offer the $10 lawn ticket deal again; that's the way to go if you don't mind the lawn

Whats there to know?

It's official man. Its going to be Disturbed/Godsmack/Megadeth headlining the main stage. Wolverinekills has been pretty legit and spot on for quite awhile now(he was the one that told everyone that the big 4 would be one date show before it was revealed officially).

Plus didn't you read the blabbermouth post made by Xenocide?

I'm definitely not going to this. The only way I would go to this is if Megadeth plays "Peace sells....but whos buying?" in its entirety :rocker:

Considering it's Mayhem Festival, I'm happy with the line-up. The thing that's so disappointing to me is that it's only the 4th tour and they're bringing back like 4 bands. There are so many other bands they could choose from. If they could get rid of Disturbed, Suicide Silence, and Trivium and keep Machine Head, I'd be peachy. Also, the fact that Godsmack and Disturbed are headlining over Megadeth just really makes me sad and mad.:flame:

Either way, I'll be going to this because my dad really likes Godsmack, so I'll just make the best of it.

Red Fang

Well, all these bands WERE rumored to be on it. Especially SOAD, so maybe those people aren't the "retarded" ones after all.

Disregard the first post in this thread because it's obvious the OP edited it to make it up to date. But just skim through the rest of this thread and see what everyone was saying before the lineup was official.

I beg to differ with those who are saying (if the rumors are true) that this years Mayhem lineup isn't as good.

For me it's 2 times better. In 2008 there was one band on the bill I was heavily into (Slayer) and in 2009 there was also only one band I was heavily into (Korn). This year (if true) two bands I am heavily into (Megadeth and Disturbed) are on the bill making it double time kickass.

Oh...better not be some deathcore/hardcore band. I want AT LEAST one deathmetal or black metal band there.

WHY?! I still don't understand why people want one or two good bands to be added to this tour. I prefer it when there are tours with absolutely NO bands I'm interested in seeing. This makes it more likely that bands I am interested in seeing will tour together.

Here's to Skeletonwitch being on Summer Slaughter!

meanwhile having 2 bands that big has allowed them to get diverse with the bands and IMO put together an interesting package

That's because the tour was new in 2008, so a lot of people when they saw the lineup just dismissed the tour as a whole. There wasn't any disappointment because there wasn't a standard set yet. Then they came out in 2009 with bands like Cannibal Corpse and Slayer so those same people were like "woah, I might have to pay attention to this tour now!" Then 2010 happened.

AnataFan4Life

:money::money::money:

The complaining about no black or death metal bands is fuckin stupid. Extreme metal fans make up a very small portion of the metal concert going crowd. Those few people coming out to the Mayhem shows isn't gonna have much effect on their bottom line at the end of the tour and you're kidding yourself if you think it does?

2009 wasn't the lowest grossing year because they had bands like CC and Behemoth. It was because they had an awful headliner in Manson. He had a following and mainstream appeal in 2000 but that ended a few years later. He was beyond relevant or an appealing act in 2009 and shame on the promoters for not realizing that.

As for this year, I like Disturbed but they've done way too many festivals and are wearing out their welcome with them. Godsmack sucks but at least them and Disturbed will still bring people out. Megadeth is a nice little compliment to the lineup and gives the festival more credibility by having their name on it, just like Slayer did two years ago.

Korn is also out dated and no body really gives a shit about them anymore but that tour seemed to do well.

EDIT: Starting to think of it who the fuck cares about Godsmack? Seems like the only time they got a headliner who was still in their prime was 2008.

KoRn and Godsmack still play large venues and sell A LOT of albums(Godsmack's last album still debut at number 1 despite no tour to support it)

Just because you don't think they're relevant anymore doesn't mean its true

True but let's not forget that Zombie is still very popular and him being a co-headliner helped out a lot. I think Korn still has a sizable following though. I know it's bigger than what Manson had when they booked him.

Steev
01-26-2011, 08:19 AM
The reason 2009 did poorly was the headliners definately, asside from the fact Slayer and Manson played the same venues only 2 years earlier neither one can carry a big outdoor show on their own

Manson was definately past his prime and Slayer is not an arena band on their own, the two times they've headliner Camden(which also gets Mayhem) they converted to an indoor(and much smaller) venue and neither time did it sell out

Then you throw in Cannibal Corpse who has notoriety but atleast where I live they do not even sell out smaller clubs(when they did SOTU they were billed under As I Lay Dying, In Flames, Trivium, and a few other bands)

So as much as people ramble about how every year should be like that it'll never happen

Zombie is still popular and will sell out clubs and theaters(and guarentee an arena tour sells, which he has done recently with bands like Ozzy and Godsmack)

And let's not forget KoRn did Family Values in the same venues as Mayhem and that was actually really successful

I'm wondering what the delay until Monday is for. Is it another band? Kinda confusing seeing as I'm sure they know that the lineup has been leaked.

But speaking of the lineup, I'll most likely be there but I wish there was another big band or two I want to see. Seems like a lot of filler bands to me.

Disturbed- I'm not into them anymore, but I'm sure the friends I'll be there with will want to see them.

Godsmack- I've never seen them before, and it seems as if people like them the first time they see them. Sounds good to me.

Megadeth- Still weird to me they're before Disturbed and Godsmack..but they aren't as mainstream popular anymore as those two bands..Excited to see them again though.

Machine Head- Love this band. Can't wait to see them for the 3rd time. Hopefully they're the MS opener on my date so they get a longer set.

Trivium- Always enjoyed this band, seen them quite a few times because they always tour with bands I enjoy, so I'm not disappointed in seeing them again.

In Flames- I've enjoyed this band for awhile, but I've never been able to see them. Here's to hoping the set is actually pretty decent.

Unearth- Love this band. They really bring it live and I can't wait to finally see them again.

Suicide Silence- Hopefully the new album they put out is good. I used to love this band and I've seen them quite a few times. Not disappointed in seeing them again, just kinda whatever about it.

Kingdom of Sorrow- I finally checked this band out recently, they rule. A lot. Excited for them.

All Shall Perish- Band rules. Have yet to actually see them. Still surprised they put 2 deathcore bands this year. Oh well.

Red Fang- Not a bad band by any means. Just didn't see this coming at all. Are they even that big? Would rather have All That Remains/Dimmu Borgir to be honest.

Straight Line Stitch- This band is awful. Seriously. Who honestly enjoys this band? From what I remember, even the 2nd stage bands usually have a decently good sized fan base. Which is kinda why i question Red Fang and these guys(and girl) being on the lineup.

So theoretically speaking, I'd have much rather seen a lineup of

Disturbed
Godsmack
Megadeth
Machine Head

In Flames
Dimmu Borgir
Suicide Silence
All Shall Perish

Trivium
All That Remains
Unearth
Kingdom of Sorrow

6 bands on the mainstage? Damn that's alot. I remember when I went to 2009 I could have sworn I only saw 3 bands on the main stage(I saw Killswitch, Slayer and then we all bailed out before Mansion even stepped foot on stage).

dont expect that name to stick, last year the Silver Star stage started out as the "Mayhem" stage

I would say so. Unless they just plan on giving everyone extended sets, that only leaves you with 10 bands every date, due to the rotating Main Stage opener. My guess is that we will get two more side stage acts, and if its true that they are gonna start the shows earlier this year, then that only furthers this speculation.

There's so much speculation swirling around already, and the delay for the official announcement is only making it worse.

Are there really 6 Main Stage bands or are In Flames,Machine Head and Trivium rotating as main stage opener and side stage headliners?

Machine head headlining a side stage would be very suave.

That's not the case at all. It just depends on who's available when the tour is scheduled. If a band has other tour comitments or is in the studio recording they obiviously can't do it.

I don't think the promoters have to beg any band to do this tour. If a band schedule is clear and they say "no" to it then that's just stupid. The exposure some bands will get from a tour like this will be hard to find somewhere else.

Who knows, maybe Megadeth could get a revival in popularity by doing this. I'd love to see that happen.

I wouldn't say "everyone". When was the last time a Megadeth song was played on the radio? Look at how little promotion Endgame had. There's people out there who think they retired years ago and it would be nice to let them know that they're still around and kicking ass. To the dedicated metal community they're still alive and going strong but to the general hard rock fan who relies on the radio for their music, Megadeth is the furthest thing in the world from being popular. Never underestimate how dumb and how little knowledge the general hard rock/metal listening crowd has. Which unfortunately makes up about three quarters of the people who go to see Mayhem.

It would be nice to see Megadeth sellout venues the size of what they played during American Carnage on their own again. Maiden got a huge popularity revival when Bruce came back so you never know what could happen with Megadeth here.

My Megadeth experiences have been the other way around. The first time I saw them they were really boring.

The next time was on that abortion of a Gigantour UK tour with JFAC. Again, they were pretty dull.

Completely, a radio hit can be huge for your career, and in some cases excessive touring

Shinedown toured for over 2 and a half years for their last album, and the venues went from small clubs holding less than 1,000 to ampitheaters holding probably closer to 20,000

You must not know ravenheart too well. He was being his usual wise ass self with the radio comment.

In this instance I honestly don't believe, as a generalising statement, it's actually true.

I wouldn't necessarily consider the temporary surge in popularity of a band with a radio hit to be in any way a result of actual hard rock fans.

That surge is, in the main, other people, who aren't actually into hard rock and metal as a whole, they've just latched on to a particular band for a little while. Actual hard rock fans probably won't pay don't pay attention at all. In fact, most hard rock fans, boneheaded as they tend to be, will actively avoid bands with radio hits.

So I honestly don't believe there are that many hard rock/metal fans at all who rely on the radio to tell them what to listen to in the same way pop fans do. The history of hard rock bands not getting onto the radio tells you that would be a stupid thing to do if you're a fan of the genre as a whole.

And on the subject of Megadeth pulling out, I'd consider that a wise move for them. Being part of what is essentially a trendy-metal tour would do them no favours at all besides a bit of cash, and as we all said in the Big 4 thread, a Big 4 tour would easily make them as much, if not more money than being on this tour would.

MCR, VR, Dragonforce and Wolfmother were, at the time, FAR bigger draws in the UK than Megadeth were. Reason? They were all trendy favourites with the magazines/TV/Radio.

Now, well if VR got a singer all the kiddies liked, that would still be the case there. MCR are probably still bigger. Wolfmother and Dragonforce probably aren't.

The length of time the tour has been around is irrelevant. Take the Reading Festival in England, now going into its 50th year. The line-up every year is the latest flavour of the month bands. As soon as Maiden got cool again they were booked to headline (which was dumb because there were nearly no other metal acts on the bill).

It's the make-up of a line-up which dictates whether the event is trying to be trendy or not, and this tour, every year, intentionally sets out to book trendy bands to pull in the fickle kids who pay to see whoever it cool right now.

...or, as others have said, if the Big 4 end up touring during the summer, Mustaine decided to do that instead. :hmm:

Actually, I bet I know what happened! They only announced one Big 4 date because Megadeth was busy on Mayhem at the time the Big 4 was planning to tour the States. I don't really know how these tours work, but if Megadeth is sort of a "property" to the Mayhem organizers and if the band aren't legally obligated to drop the tour, I bet the Big 4 organizers "bought" Megadeth from the Mayhem organizers.

Now if I'm wrong about the property thing, I assume Mustaine just abandoned the tour in favor of the Big 4. Which wouldn't surprise me.
