Best set ever? I would have died if I went to that one; let's see Disposable, Thing, Fade, Wolf, Leper UG III, Fight Fire, Trapped and of course KTULU

For fans of Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets that was as close to a metal wet dream as you can get

and Ktulu...wow....that is a rare treat

Say what you will about Lars he knows how to write setlists

EDIT: I wanted to post this off metontour it being the last show of the Death Magentic Tour
Here are some stats.... these 5 shows in Melbourne had over 75,000 fans in attendance. For all the shows in Australia and New Zealand, over 300,000 fans saw their favorite band play. Depending on who you ask, the stats may difffer, but this is what I have: The World Magnetic tour crossed 45 countries, 143 arena shows, 34 festival shows, 29 stadium shows, 4 club/theater shows, 3 tv/radio shows, 2 hall of fame shows, 3790 songs, and not a single setlist was the same.

Also the editor for their fan club mag did a piece on the end of the tour and posted it on the main page; good read

Seeing these recent setlists really piss me off. Why couldn't Metallica play sets like these in America? The last show I saw them at was one of there last shows in the U.S back in December of 09, why couldn't they pull something like this out? I must have taken like 4-5 bathroom/smoke breaks. I love metallica like the next but "Broken beat and scarred" "the day that never comes" "Nothing else matters" and many more are just Pee break/smoke breaks for me:cool:

dude have you read this yet?
http://www.examiner.com/concerts-in-pittsburgh/metallica-claims-2011-tour-could-rival-pink-floyd-s-the-wall-tour
I don't know about big 4 but check it out. Its 100% that next year whatever metallica is doing they are most definitely jumping on the band wagon
like most band these days and will play an old album in its entirety, anyone who wants do deny and yapper on and on with there "I wont believe it tell they release info" bullshit can shove it. Plus if Metallica is planning this so called tour that will rival "Pink floyds the wall" do you really fuckin' think they are really going to go back to playing random sets of songs after doing that the last 10-15 years in the U.S.....really???..(Though they did play MOP in its entirety....but that was in Europe back in 06' If I recall)

I'm not trying to compare bands or anything but since Megadeth and Slayer did the whole "We're going to play a classic from start to finish" what makes you think Metallica won't. Read that whole article. Its pretty obvious there going to do an entire album especially if there going to compare it with "The Wall" which was an album tour

Not to mention all these sets being posted here have one show with 6 songs off Master of Puppets. Then at another show the 3 songs that where missing from the other show are now being played at the next one ect ect...they're basically playing the entire album....its just not not in one setting(instead they're just playing a couple at each show...maybe testing it out for the America tour coming in 2011?)

Dude chill the fuck out. That shit is old news, before even the Big Four thing happened in Europe. If anything it'll be kept seperate from the Big Four if it came to the States. It kind of seems impractical to have a huge stage set that would probably take a long time to put together when they have four other bands opening for them.

That is THE BEST set list I've seen from them. It would be absolutely perfect if they pulled out Fuel and Sad But True for say, Ride The Lightning and Damage Inc.

Fuck, Trapped Under Ice AND Ktulu. That's fucking awesome.

I wouldn't say that if I where you. After joining this forum last month I've learned this place is plagued and filled with die hard Iron Maiden fans(not saying anything is wrong with that...I love iron maiden, just not in the same level as pretty much everyone else here)....Just saying I probably wouldn't say that around here...I think the post above me is a good example of what i'm talking about...

This was the last of the "Death Magnetic" tour?...

Can someone please tell me something? Why is it when Metallica played in america back in 08 for there Death magnetic tour they would play about 10 to 9 old classics and the rest of it being there new album and some cover songs? Then when they went to Europe they give them all the rarities and gems that the U.S didn't get? Not only that but Metallica was playing WAY less Death Magnetic songs in Europe then in the U.S.....I figured with the recent sets in Europe before they head back to America for the 2nd leg of the tour I assumed they would be giving the same treatment they're giving Europe......I remember at the last show of the U.S for the 2nd leg of the Death Magnetic tour they played about 8 songs off Death Magnetic at our show and the Auzzies in Austrialia only get 3 songs?....what gives.....does metallica hate america :(

I wish they could have busted out Orion or Call of the Ktulu here back in 08'
09' during the death magnetic tour

Since you've only been here a month I don't think you should tell someone who's been here a year and a half what they can say or can't:D He isn't gonna get any shit for that because a lot of Maiden fans on here feel the same way. They play great live no matter what but a lot of fans would like to see some variety. It's never gonna happen though since that's never been Maiden's way. It would be cool to go see them and wonder if that night you might get to hear them do something different like To Tame A Land or Infinite Dreams but that's never gonna happen.

The most they usually ever did off DM at shows was six songs. I don't believe they did any shows that had eight or nine songs off it at all. Europe is a different situation than America because Metallica plays festivals there. These festivals can draw 100,000 people or better as opposed to the 15,000- 20,000 they draw per show here in North America. Since there will be more "casual" fans at the European shows due to the huge crowds these festivals draw, Metallica sticks with the "classics" set there. With so many people, there will be a lot of them not familiar with the new stuff so the old stuff is the way to go.

Plus, they've toured North America way more than anywhere else so a lot of fans like myself, have had the opportunity to hear them play most of the old material through the years. Australia got special treatment because it was the last part of the tour and the band felt like fuckin around with the sets more and they haven't been down that way in awhile so I guess they decided to give the fans there something a little more special.

Seen Metallica in Europe numerous times (around 10) inculding festivals but that is by far the best set ive seen from them...ever, 2nd to that is the 2008 set at donnington...hearing MOP in its entirety was awesome. Could you seriously imagine hearing that set?! just the into to messiah, disposable, Ktulu, fight fire with fire???

This just shows how good metallica are, i know they've had some shit years (i know i know) but seriously they have grown up and finally giving the fans what they want to hear.

I am a maiden fan (seen them about 6 or 7 times) but It really puts maiden to shame...how can metallica go out and change sets each night, where as they play exactly the same songs each night?

In Maidens defence, i think they do juggle there "tour sets" for example i enjoyed this years set of playing the recent stuff and also playing the 2005 set where they just played shit off the first 4 albums (definitley in my top 5 concerts of all time!) ....So you kinda know what your gonna get each night, where with metallica you be slightly disappointed with a couple of song choices.

Anyway awesome set! Interesting to see what this 'Wall' tour shit will be like. Im thinking first four albums - 2 hour set?

Don't get me excited...

Actually a "first four albums" tour would run about 4 hours, so I think that's out of the question. I'm really hoping they do a US Puppets tour AND a US Black Album tour. I think that would make everyone happy.

jaysadler2
11-22-2010, 02:21 PM
People obviously will disagree with this, although the black album is good, i the songs are getting a bit reptitive live. I just started getting into them early/mid 90's n saw them in the 'escape from the studio tour' at donnington, just a bit bored of sandman, matters and sad but true. Every Metallica gig ive been to the've played them.

I know its the same with one, MOP etc. but i first beame a fan around the black album era.

so i would favour first four album tour ;)

Not unless the song sucks. I never take breaks either MIND YOU...only when I don't like the song by the band *Dead Skin mask by slayer always comes to mind*

But thats nice to know you dont take breaks during shows. Stay metal :fist:

100% agree. Who takes breaks during a normal length concert. Hold it, don't be a sissy.

However I think they are doing something more than just playing The Black Album in full. Thats not worthy of "something to rival The Wall". I suspect it might be Puppets and Black album, now that would be something for everyone and would rival The Wall..maybe.

They don't mean the band is taking breaks, they mean they (the audience member) takes a break during a song they don't care about.

1. I only took 4-5 breaks and This was the first time I ever took breaks at a concert(more importantly for a band that I came to see and watch)

2. I can let this slide since this was my 5th time seeing Metallica

3.To add what I was just saying earlier, not only was it my 5th time but this was my first time seeing them with shitty Nosebleeds(every other time has been pit floor) and it was hot as hell up there! Holy hell...Humid as fuck!!! And it didn't help that people right next to us and all around us where lighting cigarettes and weed, making the place even more sweaty and claustrophobic...I wish they could have kept that shit outside or something :flame:

4.I only took like one piss break the other times I just went out to catch a breather or smoke a cigarette

5.Opinions are opinions...If you don't like it then take it somewhere else. I don't like Death Magnetic...End of story... The only song I like is Unforgiven III and My apocolypes..nothing more nothing less.....The only time I went out to catch a breather was during the god awful "broken beat, scarred" "The Day That never Comes" "The judas kiss" and a couple a others...But I sure as hell didn't go take a break when they played "Shortest Straw" "Battery" and many other classics...:rocker::rocker:

But thats good to know you don't take breaks during shows man and that you're not a sissy. More power to you :fist:

Woah there buddy, I was just kidding.

I hate Broke Beat and Scarred (if I were to take a piss break during the last Metallica show I saw..that would have been it). Kinda wish we had gotten Judas Kiss. But Death Magnetic is largely a great disc I think. At least I thought it much better than the latest Megadeth effort. All Nightmare Long I would put in my top 20 of Metallica songs its that good. There are some other good songs on DM but that song in particular is fantastic (and a hell of alot of fun live I might add!).

I would love to hear Unforgiven III live. I am interested in seeing how it would sound in concert. All the other songs sound almost identical to the album version when they play it in concert.

oh right, yeah i understand that....i only rarely take breaks during a concert cos of the amount of money tickets cost nowadays, but i normally have to take a leak with all the beer i drink which is a pain....altho recently i've been pissing in discarded bottles or cups lol
