Kinda related to what's going on in the topic now:

My guitarist may be opening for Manson in his other band, American Gothic, starting in March. Which means my band with him, Shattered, may be over. It really fucking sucks, but I guess I can't hold it against him. I mean if you got that kind of exposure, it's hard to pass up.

I fail to see how the first thing automatically causes the second. Is there something I'm missing?

I'll say this much though, I went for Manson, but Slayer did play a good show. I don't really like their music, but they played a better set than Manson.

Yeah, he's either quitting, or will be putting Shattered on the backburner until he is no longer in that band. I guess in my rage I forgot to add that part in there.

my ex-friend's mom works at heinz field now (GO STEELERS! :D). she said theres gonna be a big metal concert coming here in july two weeks after taylor swift does, which is two weeks after U2 does (BLEH). she said its either metallica or guns n roses...and that it gets announced this week officially

I REALLY REALLY hope this is it :D

I hate to disappoint, I truely do, but I am hearing a 'few shows' as opposed to a tour. AEG does Ozzfest and some Metallica tours, I kept hearing AEG would have the Big 4 in place of Ozzfest. I bet it is the same places they played at Ozzfest last year. Probably a few less shows to boot...

Well yeah approximately the same areas, but I would imagine that this would actually come to the Tri-State area unlike Ozzfest. Considering it's one of the biggest markets in the country, they would have to be retarded not to come here.

I know just one show would make a ton of money but it's just stupid from a buisness standpoint. Why only do one gig when you know there's plenty of more money to be made off this? I'm hoping there is at least 10 shows because it gives fans a better chance to see it.

Mark my words(this goes out to all the people living in Southern California)

The big 4 will be at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. I just can't see a tour like this being at any Average-mid sized Amphitheater or Arena.

I know no one here will give a shit about this anymor econsidering the big 4 announcement is tomorrow, but to get back to the Marilyn Manson tour I was talking about pages back:

It's not a 6 month tour like my guitarist told me pervious, and it's not starting in March. It will be somewhere between 2 weeks and 2 month North American Tour starting maybe April or May. My guess is that American Gothic will be the first or second band on the bill. Since I don't think any of you guys have heard of them before, there's no way I can picture them being Main Support.

And I'll be completely honest, even though my guitarist will be doing this tour, I will not be going to the Minnesota show. The only time I've seen American Gothic play is when my band Shattered was playing with them, and I plan on keeping it that way, especially if it is Marilyn Manson headlining.

Not going, fuck them, they are assholes for making it a one off event. Rammstein is one thing because they were unsure of the draw they could get, but "The Big Four" KNOW, without a shadow of a doubt that they would be able to sell out every god damn venue they said they would be at.

I think I might go to this. Are you most likely going? If so, we should have a "METAL SETLIST BIG 4" Meet Up :rocker: :rocker: :rocker: :rocker:

A couple hour drive is not a big deal as i've done that for numerous shows before. You should deffinitely go. Myself, on the other hand, would have to purchase a concert ticket, a plane ticket to fly accross the country and a hotel for a night or two. Not to mention other expenses like cab fair, food and whatever.

If they made a stop within a few hours of where i'm at I wouldn't give it a second thought about going. But traveling that far and spending that much money? Not happening here.

Hmmmm, Seems like I'm one of a few people on this board that has a good chance at going, since the venue is literally only 2 hour and 5 minutes away from where I reside(I looked up direction)

It's not so much the drive I'm worried about. Its the venue, area, city. I like to know where I'll be at and shit before going. Get a good idea of the place....Also I can't imagine how HORRIFIC traffic will be when getting to the venue....stop and go...stop and go.....I've read some pretty bad stories from Coachella(THEN AGAIN COACHELLA is like a few days!! Yup...well...with all that convience charge b.s and stuff it will be like 110-115 bucks.

As for getting upfront?

If I go to this, my mission is to NOT be upfront. Do you have any fucking clue how big this venue is? Do you realize that a good amount of people are going to try and get up front and its going to turn into nothing but a "squashed/ I can't fucking move a part of my body" fest. Fuck that shit, man. Have you even read any of the BIG 4 stories in Europe? I read some about how people could barley breath or move an inch of there body....IT'S THAT PACKED

If I go i will just chill in the middle or back and thrash out with the rest of the crowed. :rocker:

No point in being in the front when all its going to be is people squashing each other and not being able to breath or move an inch of your fucking body. It will be so goddamn packed that there probably won't be any pits up in the front....that shit will be in the BACK .

Plus I've Seen all of them up front in the rails(except for anthrax)

But if you insist on chilin on the rail, go for it. But I will tell you this....you will have a horrible fucking time at the show. You should seriously read some of people stories and trips at the Big 4 gig in Europe.....reading some of that shit made me think "Damn. I would not be having a good time if I was there"

Also take your buddies advise you will probably loose all oxygen and die:hecho:

Meh, Slayer and Megadeth give each other a really tough fight for most boring live band out of these four. Four guys standing stock still is not a live show.

Enjoyment of both of them live comes down 100% to how much you like the songs they play because neither of them actually perform live. For me that ends up meaning I'd rather see Megadeth live than Slayer, but people who prefer Slayer's music will always enjoy Slayer's show more.

But I kinda get why they're doing it. It makes much more sense if you look it as as a historical event. A single event in this case. Maybe a couple other appearances around the country wouldn't be so bad, but a national tour wouldn't make sense at all.

Plus, this tour would kinda suck anyway. You're paying 100 bucks to see four bands play about 40 min each, maybe Metallica will play an hour and 20. And their performances aren't even rare or anything, either. If you love all four bands, then it may be a good idea, but how many people love all four anyway?

I agree that a national tour wouldn't work but I think they could do 3 more: East Coast (New York/New England area), Midwest (Chicago area) and maybe one Western Canada and one Eastern Canada. All of those are huge markets; The New York area was huge in helping grow all 4 bands during their hayday and I am very surprised in the very least that there is no east coast date; Plus you factor that money is tight for a lot of people and not everyone from the east coast or inland can travel

Iron Maiden, Alice In Chains and Dream Theater are other metal bands that come to mind who play two hours all the time like Metallica. The other thing with Metallica is they rotate like 6 or 7 songs every night so throughout the course of a tour they never play the same set twice. They play 18 songs a night and the show usually goes a little bit over 2 hours.

Listen, we don't wanna cram this down people's throats., we don't wanna sort of overstay the welcome, and we don't know what kind of response there's gonna be to this in America, so we're starting, obviously, without being disrespectful to the rest of the wonderful country...

We have a history in Southern California, Slayer has a history in Southern California, (Dave) Mustaine has a history in Southern California, so there's a lot of history in California. And we picked the Coachella site where this is going down the week after the Coachella, which is probably - along with Bonnaroo - the favorite festival site to go to in North America.

If there is enough demand for it, obviously there's a very strong possibility that there'll be more shows, but we don't wanna overextend the welcome and we also don't wanna turn it into something that becomes just this whole nostalgia trip. So it's a balancing act, you know."

Are they retarded? We all think that one show in England isn't enough! Especially since it's a festival filled with shit acts. If England wants an arena tour, what the hell do they think America is going to want?

Fuck you Lars, you know damn well this tour would draw anywhere it went and you don't need to take "baby steps". Just book more dates already you don't have to wait and see.

I've seen them twice so far and they haven't played two hours once.

Well, i've seen a lot of headlining sets from them on their last tour where they did about 20 songs a night. If those shows didn't get to the two hour mark, they at least had to be in the 1 hour and 45 minute range.

The two headlining shows I saw were 70 minutes and 90 minutes :(

Now Saxon, there's a band who do 2 hours every night :D

Then there are some bands who don't make any bullshit excuses. Black Crowes, Gov't Mule etc. 3 hours every night, 100% different setlists. THAT is effort.

I just love how this implies that adding Metallica to a tour that happened in the fall already and hit smaller cities all over America makes it a big fucking deal worth driving cross country for.

Some fans might, but Metallica aren't (at least, not necessarily).

As to whether there will be more dates or not (and also with respect to Lars's bullshit non-committal quote), it's pretty clear to see what's happeneing here. They are announcing one show that will happen for sure, and they have committed to it. Judging by the reaction over the next couple of weeks, they will likely make a business decision at that time to add more shows or not. They may even have tentative plans lined up with other venues in other cities, and just be waiting to pull the trigger until they get a signal that it's the right thing to do.

It's Music Business 101, people. It's not that hard.

Now everybody calm the fuck down, take your meds and listen to some Explosions in the Sky or something. Christ almighty.

Even so, the price points are going to reflect Metallica's presence. Listen, I paid eight bucks to see Slayer/Megadeth/Anthrax. My guess is I'd pay 50+ for the worst ticket on this tour with Metallica. I guess it just kind of makes me sad how little 3/4ths of the Big Four apparently means to average Joe Schmo metal fan. I thought the Jager tour was a pretty big fucking deal, but I guess not.

I'm thinking hard about the VIP tix; they cost a bitch but from what I can tell might be a more enjoyable experience

Is there really going to be a huge difference between VIP and regular tickets? I'm sure both will still have you chillin in that giant open field. Eitherway I was gonna stay basic and just get a 100 $ ticket :hecho:

This is what Ticketmaster says

VIP tickets includes access to front of stage VIP Pit, as well as access to a tented viewing area for a break from the crowds and the elements, VIP parking with a separate entrance, higher quality food and beverage choices, and better restroom facilities.

So after all I would still go for the basic tickets but it sounds temping

If I'm honest, this is probably just Metallica wanting to tour by themselves with this 'Black Album Anniversary' and sell that shit out themselves. They know the other bands need them to sell out big places, and by god they're gonna use that to their advantage.

Its good business sense on Metallica behalf, and they're the ones spearheading the whole thing.

To be honest it was dumb luck all the way. Back in November, I heard bout the free Metallica show in Santa Monica, CA and heard it was only for the Metclub. I was drunk at the time, and drunk me thought it was a good idea to pay and sign up, then I regretted it later. Well I got an email the other day saying I get to buy presale at 7am today. Worked out perfect cause the Megadeth presale started at 8am and that's when I have to leave for school, or I get locked out of my Physics lab haha and the regular goes on sale during my calculus midterm tomorrow. I'm talking to a Ticketmaster representative to see if I could possibly add the shuttle service charge to my already purchased order. I just don't really want to drive to this place.....I've heard some really bad stories of traffic during my friends journey to Coachella in 08 and 07':hecho:

It's really easy bro. When you went to purchase tickets, you didn't see the "Shuttle service" section? There is suppose to be a shuttle service option after you finish up purchasing your ticket. I just finished talking to the ticketmaster representative and they fixed the problem so now I OFFICIALLY DON'T HAVE TO DRIVE TO THIS SHOW.

Ah no problem bro. I'll save you the trouble.

The Ticketmaster representative told me that the shuttle ticket and info will be mailed to your place in 14-15 days. And you basically take that shuttle ticket with you to the specific shuttle spot that you got your ticket for on the day of the show, and the rest is pretty easy.

The shuttle ticket will come with all the info you need. What time you have to be there, when it will leave, ect. That's what the lady over the phone told me:hmm:

I understand where you're coming from but if the show is close to you there's no reason why you shouldn't go. The only band I would really be mad at is Metallica. They're the ones who got enough influence here and could've easily gotten more dates. I'm not sure how much Megadeth and Slayer had a part in this but we all know Anthrax plays no part in where they go since they're the lowest of all of them.

Bottom line, they hyped this up so much everyone thought there would be more dates and then they insult the fans by only doing one where most of them can't get to. That's not exactly good PR and can turn a lot of fans against the bands.

Steev

If they do decide to have a few more shows it's gonna be after this one. Guaranteed. If this rakes in the cash that they're expecting then they'll (and by they I mean most likely Metallica) say fuck it and keep it going.

They will do more dates next summer. It will be better this way. After all, The American Carnage tours went over well and by that time Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax will have new material out. That is one reason I am not worried about going to the Big 4 because I believe there will be more.
