I'm going to be pretty trusting in Kylesa. Unless Tony can say that all of the new stuff he heard live was dramatically different than Static Tensions.

Yeeah, they've been listening to a bit too much blink 182 and power pop lately.

My brother torrented it from rockbox. He couldn't find it on any blogs.

I didn't find it on any blogs either, but if you search around on google you can find it without too much trouble.

Well that one song that ended up on youtube a while ago was definitely different (I linked it in the set list). I like Tired Climb and the song that was released with the Adult Swim comp, but the rest that I heard was neither great or terrible on first listen. You can't really judge most stuff hearing it live for the first time, I really hate hearing more than 1 or 2 new/unreleased songs live.

I'm listening to the title track right now and at least this song is obviously less heavy than the last album but I'm really liking it.

It sucks alot totally different than static tensionsThe vocals are generally less harsh overall, maybe, but it's definitely not "totally different", and it definitely doesn't "suck a lot", in my opinion.

they totally ditched their sludge sound completely for melodic psychedelic pop rock that sounds almost indie in some partsAgain, they do get more more ballad-y at times, but they haven't "totally ditched their sludge sound". For example, "Cheating Synergy", "Drop Out" and "Forsaken" are pretty heavy throughout, and many other songs have primarily melodic structures with heavier parts interspersed.

tired climb = only good songFuck no. FUCK NO. The three songs I mentioned above are pretty good, the title track is fucking awesome, and the rest are fairly decent, too.

I'm going to be pretty trusting in Kylesa.Attaboy.

Yeeah, they've been listening to a bit too much blink 182...lately. I was ready to tell you you're fucking crazy until I heard "Don't Look Back". That one actually does sound like Blink a little bit, but it's certainly heavier than anything Blink has ever done. Still, that's just one fucking song, man.

I'm listening to the title track right now and at least this song is obviously less heavy than the last album but I'm really liking it.Me too. Go figure. :D

A bunch of accurate and logical observations.

Thanks for setting this thread straight Nat. Psychedelic is the overriding sound for me. Still heavy and sludgy, it's lighter in some places, but psychedelic as hell overall.

No, it does sound very different than Static. It's much poppier.

Yeah, I'm not in love with the album yet, but it is definitely growing on me. I think the first half of the album is better than the second. The album seems to somewhat run out of steam in the last third or so, but the first five tracks are basically golden. It probably won't reach the status of Static Tensions in my estimation, but it is right up there with Time Will Fuse Its Worth, and that definitely means it ain't a bad album by any stretch.

I think your assessment of it being rather psychedelic is pretty accurate. Also, I like hearing Laura taking some chances on this album with her voice. She actually sings out and experiments a bit here, and I'm digging it. :fist:

I've given it a couple of listens and I have to say its pretty subpar. Their poppier sound doesn't really work too well. I have to say it's the biggest dissapointment of 2010.

However, I'll hold out final judgment until I give it a few spins. This is probably why they are liked among hipsters now.

Nah I'm convinced it's Phillip Cope's singing style.
