German industrial metallers RAMMSTEIN have scheduled what appears to be a one-off show in the U.S. the band's first in 10 years on December 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.SOURCE (http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=146609)

Here's what I'm wondering: What's the reason they've avoided playing in the US for the last 10 years? With their last album selling 22,000 copies in the first week, they sure seem to be popular enough. And still, they won't do a full US tour? Very strange.

I'm pretty sure they haven't played because they could never get a permit for their pyrotechnics.

i would love to see this, i hope it's not too expensive

Actually that is one of the big reasons why they don't tour here anymore.

Not really of fan of Rammstein but I'd love to see them live just for the show.

I am seriously considering going to NYC for this. I have been dying to see Rammstien and since they never play the States this might be my only chance for a long time.

I saw them in 1998 (with soulfly opening) - was that their last US tour?

It was The Pledge of Allegiance Tour with Slipknot/System of a Down

I might go depending on the price.

That's interesting since most bands who play larger venues in other countries where they can use pyros will drop the pyros when they play clubs here. I guess Rammstein only wants to put on a full blown show or nothing.

I saw them at the electric factory here in philly, which i guess is a ~2500 to 3000 capacity club, they def had all the pyro

Wow. Bands such as In Flames and Dimmu Borgir that played a larger club called Myth here when it was open NEVER had pyro. It must depend on the club and what rules they have. Maybe when Rammstein did the tour of which they played The Electric Factory, they found out that not all clubs allowed pyro and didn't want to do more US tours because of it. I don't need to see pyro to make a concert great and wouldn't care if they toured and didn't have it.

I highly doubt this is the only US date they will play within the next year.

Just a guess, but I bet they will co-headline the Rockstar Mayhem Festival next year. And if so...:party::party::party::party:

And I think they can only put on a full blown show with pyrotechnics if they're playing in an arena or amphitheatre, and while they may be popular enough in North America I don't think they're big enough to pull in a big enough audience to do a full arena tour and sell enough tickets so that they don't lose money on the tour. I guess this MSG date could be an indicator of whether or not they could do a full arena tour, but with 8 million people in the city and i'm sure people willing to travel from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut it still may not be a good enough indicator of whether or not they could pull the same audience in say a city like Denver. I mean the show they played in Quebec City was with them headlining on the last day of a festival, but I know for sure a number of people from Toronto and Montreal (and i'm sure Ottawa as well) attended that show, as if i'm not mistaken that was their first Canadian show like, ever.

I have low expectations of them doing a headlining thing by themselves, a Rockstar Mayhem think might be plausible though

Since I don't live in the NE I don't really know pricing as well. Obviously knowing playing MSG is a huge deal but does $50-80 seem like an awful lot of $ for somebody who hasn't played North America for 10 years? Or would that be the arguement for why they are that much? Not like I'm going but just curious.

I think that is why they are that much because they haven't played in here so long in addition to the fact that its the only show they are doing in the US.

New York is great, but it's consistently in the top 5 of the most expensive cities in the world.

New York is the coolest city I've been to in the U.S. And I've been to a few.

Price also most likely has to do with the production.

It's insane I would love to see them but I would have to sell a kidney to buy a ticket on Ebay., apparently the tickets where all gone in 3 minutes which is fucking nuts. I did not expect them to sell out so fast. Madison Square Garden is a fucking huge venue and I know its been 9 years since they have played in the States, but shit it just really surprised me that it sold out so fast.

What is the going rate for kidney's on the blackmarket these days? You might need to sell an additional organ for those prices.

Sweet. I will expect pictures posted of organs as well as the Rammstein show. Anything short of that will be a disapointment.
