So people still consider AIC grunge? They're a metal band if i've ever heard one. Their riffs are very Sabbath like so how is that grunge and not metal?

Not that I disagree that "grunge" is clearly a totally fabricated genre... but AIC's riffs are absolutely not Sabbath-like.

Neither is King's X. I think he was intentionally leaving it open-ended... including both Progressive Rock and Metal.

I'm going to assume that the album you're talking about is Slaughter of the Soul, which is probably THE GREATEST MELODEATH ALBUM OF ALL TIME. That alone should have them included in at least the top 3 of any sort of Melodeath list. Just my opinion, anyways.

They are metalcore, though bad choices for a metalcore 'big 4', and theres a SHITLOAD of kids out there who are playing guitar because of bands like Bullet For My Valentine and Trivium. Therefore, influential.
My Metalcore big 4 would be:
Killswitch Engage
Trivium
Avenged Sevenfold
Shadows Fall/Lamb Of God (I can't decide)

Well, every album they've released has included melodic choruses, a staple of metalcore, and the first two albums, and the latest album, contain breakdowns. They're not what they once were, but they still hold alot of hardcore influences, IMO anyway.

Hey man I dig that stuff too, but I loves my melodic metalcore, and whether you dig it or not, its still metalcore. And those bands I classify under more straight up hardcore than any kind of metalcore, and I've listened to all but Rorshach since I was like ten (my brother is a huge punk/hardcore fan). When I hear the term metalcore, I think of the more modern stuff, like the bands I have listed

1. i couldn't choose between 4 bands. 2. i'm not a genre nazi police like some people but in all seriousness BDM is no way deathcore. maybe you're one of those people who automatically think a death metal band with a lot of young fans or young members = a deathcore band.

You should. They're about as stereotypical of that "movement" as it comes.
That's ridiculous. I would consider them part of the movement now, but there is no way in hell they are one of the "stereotypical" new thrash bands. The revival part of the genre is reviving very different bands. Instead of the typical American thrash-worship of the nu-thrash bands, TH's music is pretty clearly influenced by bands like Sodom, Discharge, Sarcofago and Onslaught (all of which I doubt would even be mentioned by the nu-thrash bands.) Toxic Holocaust spent almost a decade releasing things on NWN! and HH before getting signed to Relapse and joining everyone else. Not only do they sound different and predate the movement, but they still haven't caved into the happy party-thrash.
For the new thrash bands, I would say it's not at all fair to group them all in the same "movement" simply because they are well known. There are the retro nu thrash bands, but then there are also the metal-punk bands who have the spirit of a lot of the European 80s thrash mixed with punk and a lot of Japanese hardcore. G.A.T.E.S, Bludwulf, Children of Technology and all the other bands of the genre are certainly do not play the same music as Municipal Waste, Evile, Bonded by Blood etc.

Thanks Tortuga.
But to the rest of you,
Umumum, yeah I talked to my Master today and he schooled me on why my post is shit.
Basically:
1.I was listing the bands by favoritism, not biggest influence, so my bad.
2.Some of the genres were mixed up
3.I am after all a noob and I am still learning, so my bad.
Sorry if I offended anyone with my ignorance.

Don't worry, I consider myself a noob too. Although I've been listening to extreme metal for a few years, I didn't get into classic/heavy metal until later. I kind of went backwards, I guess.

Being a pretty big NIN fan I can definitely tell you they aren't metal. There is a little bit of metal influence on the Broken EP and The Downward Spiral, but that's all.

3. I wouldn't necessarily put them in the "Big 4" of mathcore, but they certainly are a huge part of it.
4. GOD NO. NO NO NO.
Maybe Cave In, Rorschach, Coalesce, or Today Is The Day, but DEFINITELY not that steaming pile of shit.

Thing is, one could argue that a big 4 of conventional heavy metal, would be identical to that of NWOBHM.

Sorry, but Priest and Sabbath preceded NWOBHM by many years.
Look I love both NWOBMH and traditional metal, probably to equal degrees. Just gets my knickers in a bunch when people call Priest and Sabbath NWOBHM.
True NWOBHM is about more than just originating in the UK in the 70s.
There is a punk rock energy to it as well.
If you don't know what I am talking about, go get the S/T Angel Witch or Spellbound by Tygers of Pan Tang.

That pop list is arbitrary.
But I was thinking earlier today about the Big Four of modern female pop stars. It's definitely Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ke$ha and Taylor Swift. I'm gonna write a long piece on it for the blog of the entertainment weekly I edit later tonight, actually, which I'll post here when it's done.
