Both of the artists ahead of Maiden are from Detroit......

I am ashamed, though I enjoy some of Eminem's music. :snivel:

I'll wait until we see the official list. Wtf is "projected" record sales.

I don't really care about where albums chart (obviously) but if Maiden charts higher than they ever have in the States, then that's pretty cool. Also, the new Miss May I came out yesterday and I'd like to see where my broskis from high school chart. I know they broke some presale records for their label, and their shit sells like hotcakes right now, so I'd like to see them make some mad dough.

It's nice to see that in an age of shitty, commercialized bands, Maiden is still relevant.

That is way cool if that's where they end up. However, it's important to keep in mind how much the record industry has changed in the last ten years (or hell, just since AMOLAD came out). Making the Billboard charts these days isn't as hard as it used to be.

But if that Blabbermouth report is true, they not only increased chart position, but sold almost 30k more in its first week than AMOLAD.

That's awesome.

Your right about the chart position increasing not being a huge deal, but apparently the first week sales has gone up every album since Brave New World.

That's not really that suprising if you ask me. AC/DC are probably one of the biggest rock bands in the US, along with Bon Jovi, Metallica, and the like. Maiden are still huge, but not quite up to their level (in popularity, of course), so for them to get number one would be very awesome indeed.

AC/DC has sold something like 150 - 200 million copies worldwide in their career.

Maiden is at 70 million and even Metallica is only at like 100 million.

Now this is ironic. When Maiden tours the USA, they play arenas. On Arcade Fire's upcoming tour, they're playing theaters and auditoriums, yet they're above Maiden here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/music/ref=pd_dp_ts_m_1

Yep. And the big Seattle arena, at least. Probably others.

Fonzy, just let it fucking go. Lots of metal bands can't sell records. Record sales isn't sports. Who cares if anyone sells more than anyone. Arcade Fire are also good, too, sooooo.

Travis The Dragon
08-19-2010, 06:39 PM
Ya, you're right. I should just be glad that Maiden is doing as well as they are. And to make things even better, Ozzy's Scream sold half as many albums as 2007's Black Rain while Maiden's sales have gone up every album since BNW.

makethemsuffer12

Also, Arcade Fire are doing well right now because, well, they just appeal to more people. It doesn't mean that they are better than Maiden in any way, shape, or form (in our general opinions, at least).

I think it's a victory that a concept album by a dark indie rock band can debut at #1 over pop and rap and country records, too. Perhaps a bigger victory than Maiden's high chart position, even.

I think you have to be seriously consciously avoiding knowing about music that you're not interested in to have never heard of Arcade Fire, the NUMBER ONE SELLING BAND IN AMERICA RIGHT NOW. You've never seen an ad on a sidebar for a website? Or seen them on The Daily Show? Or read a review from a site that doesn't exclusively review metal? I sort of doubt all that.

IrritatedTrout

Sales will tail off a lot. I'd say that's true of 99% of metal albums. Death Magnetic (and probably Black Ice) are the only albums I can think of in recent years where sales didn't drop like a rock after all the devoted fans bought their copies in the first week.

I had never heard of them till I found out till they apparently played to more people than Soundgarden (how fucked up is that?) at Lolla. And why would I have, I don't frequent websites where I would see such banners, I only sporadically watch the daily show and most music reviews I listen to or read focus on fringe bands (be it metal, rock, jazz or blues). So in answer, yes.

I've never heard of The Arcade Fire before either. It's not that I make an effort to avoid what's topping the pop charts, it's the simple fact that I don't pay attention to it at all. I listen to what's on my iPOD/computer and in my car I usually listen to the local modern rock station or just hook my iPOD up to the stereo. So how exactly is someone suppose to know who they are if they're not listening to that type of music to begin with?

It's the same way a life long country or rap fan may not know who Metallica, Iron Maiden, Dio or Judas Priest are. They've never been a fan of the hard rock/metal genre so how would they be expected to know them?

Anyways good for Maiden if it's true they'll debut at number 3!!
