View Full Version : Guilty Pleasures?

RustinPeace1113

Being that this is a Metal site it might be fun to bring out some guilty pleasures that aren't metal at all.

My biggest one I can think of is when I stumbled upon Katy Perry's "unplugged" performance on MTV2, and she was covering a Fountain's of Wayne song called "Hackensack." I love it. Bring on the haters, I can take it.

Meh. It's been two months in that thread.

That said, my guilty pleasures would be stuff like Four Year Strong/that pop/punk with hardcore vocals thing.

The only guilty pleasure I can think of is Garth Brooks. I don’t listen to him as often as I use to but I still listen to him occasionally. From 3-10 years old him and Billy Joel would be all that I would listen to. I have always said that he is the only good country singer in the history of music.

I pretty much always get do you have Love the Way you Lie and Cooler than me? UUGGHHHH! I might be able to tolerate the latter if he didn't go to Duke but the former is annoying as all hell. I like the new Eminem cd but Rihanna's lines in that song are idiotic.

I'm burning one for this chicks birthday this weekend and it's painful to have to listen to Taio Cruz and Drake type shit. She'll get BOB with Rivers Cuomo and like it. hahaha

im so fucking sick of girls posting lyrics from that song on facebook. i thought the album was decent at first but now i really cant stand any of the songs except for "no love".

i also think that BOB - airplanes song sucks, but its the type of cheesy shit i expect girls to listen to, what i cant stand tho is when i see guys driving around blasting it. so many goddamn tools out there...

Well, the most atypical stuff I listen to would be:

Very select amounts of "modern rock" that I loved when I was like 11 or 12 - the biggest two being Creed and The Goo Goo Dolls. I still genuinely like the Goos actually, sue me.

Very select amounts of 90s Country that I grew up on and listened to when I was very young - Artists such as Garth Brooks, Diamond Rio, Collin Raye (here's looking at you, Brad)

I love Billy Joel, I listen to a fair amount of classical music, and there's a couple of musicals that I really enjoy the music to. Jekyll and Hyde and Jesus Christ Superstar are the big two. And though I don't consider it a guilty pleasure at all, I really dig a lot of fingerstyle acoustic guitar music like Andy McKee, Don Ross, and Michael Hedges.

Season 9 sucks becaus they got rid of the old cast and replaced them with a new one. Seasons 1,2, and 4 are really good. Try any episode maybe they will grab your interest. Also elliot reid is really hot so she will keep you watching.

I'm meeting some girls at this new Minus-5 ice bar in Baltimore. Travie McCoy and Shwayze are playing a free concert outside. Ya know, if Travie was playing the Gym Class Heroes hits I'd probably be pretty jakked. Unfortunately he is only playing solo stuff so I'll watch Shwayze and go back in the ice bar and polish off some grey goose until he plays Billionaire and all the girls go ballsitic.

Erm, they're big in certain places. Holland, for instance. But you really don't have to be that big to get gigs in Europe. He's not as big on his own as perhaps his booking agent thought he was... he was supposed to be playing Koko, which is a great old theatre with a 1500 capacity, but he's been downgraded to Islington Academy, which is a tiny club for 800. Disappointing really. The Academy blows.

Live played in London on their last tour (great show too). But before that the last time they came here was supporting Bon Jovi in 2003.

His new solo album is superb. Way better than the last Live album.

Sweet. I'll have to check his solo album out. I saw some of his other bandmates are in a band called The Gracious Few with a Candlebox guy and some other people. They're playing a show around here and tickets are $35. If there are more than 50 people there at that price, I'd be shocked. They sound just like the Charm City Devils who are from this area and still can't sell more than 200 tickets to a show. Even with bang tango opening like they has last night and those tickets were $18.

That's a ridiculous ticket price for a band no one's heard of yet. A guy from Candlebox plus a guy from Live really isn't going to pull the crowds on reputation. They were both good, but but that big.

Yeah my friend promoted the show and said they have all these huge interviews coming up and guaranteed 250 people at that price. I haven't seen interview 1 so I bet him $50 they don't have 150 people there. After hearing the song they're releasing to the radio stations if they have 100 I'd be shocked. It literally sounds 20 years old and just plods along to me.

I don't put that much stock in the story - and I love the first two albums, so I definitely see where you're coming from... But I do like a few cuts off the third (sorry, I'm a sucker for "Welcome Home") and I just love No World For Tomorrow, because I can't even help myself. They are cheesetastic. Their lyrics are throwaway. The storyline appears to be a boatload of convoluted, sappy hogwash. Their ballads are unlistenable. For each of the last three albums, there are 3 or 4 songs so awful they make me cringe then lunge toward the skip button.

But when they rock out, they fucking rock out, and the cheese factor somehow makes it even better. So, say, a song like "Here We Are, Juggernaut" -- something in my brain just stops working and I'm headbanging and shouting in the car, and I don't even know how I got there.
