And I'm hoping for a collaboration with my favorite Dayton Ohio band, entitled "Who Made the Mouth of Your Architect."

Speaking of this album, when I purchased it used from a FYE I was surprised to find a bonus disc inside on top of the album disc. This bonus disc contains a singular 40+ minute track that sounds a hell of a lot like Meshuggah but I couldn't find any information on any bonus disc that got packaged when Nothing was originally released. Can anyone help me out in trying to find out what the fuck is on this disc?

http://metal-archives.com/release.php?id=48202 ?
No, it's definitely not "I". They never packaged that with any other album that I'm aware of, although I believe there are a few releases out there with stuff like the "Contradictions Collapse" album with the "None" EP tacked on at the end (all on one disc) - but that's a different kind of thing.
Meshuggah did re-release "Nothing" in 2006 with a bonus DVD - maybe that's what you have. The CD case has the same artwork on the outside as the original release, only it's colored in various shades of blue instead of shades of yellow like the original. I know the DVD in question has only a few short videos on it, so it's certainly possible that they had extra room on the disc and decided to put an audio track on it that would play when you put the disc into a CD player. They've been known to do funky shit like that. In fact, the original version of "Nothing" (I have them both) is actually an enhanced CD which has bonus digital content on it when you put it into a PC (including lyrics for the songs, since the CD booklet for that version has nothing in it except the word "INGENTING", which means "nothing" in Swedish).
Try putting the disc into a DVD player and / or PC and see what happens.

What a bangin' tune that is. Aside from the vocals, it reminds me of some of the best Mastodong I've ever heard (the drums, for example, remind me of "Blood and Thunder" in a big way). Hell of a debut album by these guys, too. I almost wish I would have ranked it even higher in my year-end list...it's just so technically proficient and yet gets your head banging at the same time. These cats are really talented, and are really going to go places if they keep up what they've started here. :rocker:

I don't say this often, but they might be one of the best pure metalcore bands I've hard. They obviusly hold Coalesce, Converge and Botch in high regard. You have no idea how refreshing it is to hear a current metalcore band that doesn't rely on breakdowns and fashion to get their points across.

They have the same problem that a lot of "indie" bands do IMO: everything is the same tempo, and the singer's voice never changes. The record just kind of drones on and on.

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS JOKE
Most real rock bands (Motorhead, AC/DC, Saxon, Iron Maiden) have two testicles. Most modern rock bands like Shinedown, Nickelback, and Korn have no testicles whatsoever. In Flames are what Nickelback would sound like if they thought "hey, we should add some balls to our music, but not enough to completely scare away the soccer moms. We'll add stuff like faster tempos and tremolo riffing, but we'll keep in assrape tendencies and whiney vocals so we'll still appear deep and emotional to our jock rock fanbase." They're halfway there, but don't want to add that extra mile. Therefore, In Flames has precisely one ball and I have decided to refer to In Flames as Louie One Ball .

Therefore, In Flames has precisely one ball and I have decided to refer to In Flames as One-Ball Louie.
Ahh, alright, so it's some wildly overthought thing that absolutely has no basis in truth. Gotcha. ;)

Personally I hate Phantom, but that's because I prefer their grindcore material ;) But I see what you mean. On a non-grindcore level, Phantom is very good. I just can't help compare it to Prowler, but I suppose people do that all the time with their favorite bands (see: Metallica's self-titled album).

Since it's a pretty hot topic, I'll spew my thoughts on the new Blind Guardian album in a nutshell:
Significantly better than A Twist in the Myth, no question. There's at least 2 or 3 songs on this album I like more than every song on Twist. It's not quite up to par with their absolute best work, but it's pretty damn great. Considering everything they've ever put out has grown on me over time, I'm assuming this will too.
Favorite tracks: "Sacred Worlds", "Wheel of Time", "Voice in the Dark".

:wow: I'm REALLY surprised you can even get past the vocals on these guys. I'm having a really hard time with your disdain for Dying Fetus again in light of this new information. :D At least DF has one decent vocalist, and their riffs are heavy as balls, and catchy as helll at the same time.
Having said this, I myself am somewhat interested in seeing what this next CC album has to deliver. I remember being mildly interested in Xenosapien, but it didn't exactly leap out of the CD player and demand repeated listens from me like some other albums did that year (Red Album, Phantom Limb, Given to the Rising, Death Is This Communion...).

:wow: I'm REALLY surprised you can even get past the vocals on these guys. I'm having a really hard time with your disdain for Dying Fetus again in light of this new information. :D At least DF has one decent vocalist, and their riffs are heavy as balls, and catchy as helll at the same time.
Having said this, I myself am somewhat interested in seeing what this next album has to deliver. I remember being mildly interested in Xenosapien, but it didn't exactly leap out of the CD player and demand repeated listens from me like some other albums did that year (Red Album, Phantom Limb, Given to the Rising, Death Is This Communion...).
Endless Cycle of Violence
Xenosapien
Cephalic Carnage
Yeah, not bad. Maybe I should listen to this album again.
 I definitely don't think they have the same vocal style as DF, at least not on the whole. They really only do the guttural style for a verse or two every couple of songs. Hell, on "Endless Cycle of Violence," the chorus is basically a big hook-filled onslaught of semi-clean vocals: "Witness the endless cycle of violence, invigorates, from the Big Bang, to street gangs, we live it every day." :rocker: Plus, CC's technicality reminds me of good technicality, like Atheist and late Death. Dying Fetus is brutal, but I don't even really like anything that can best be described as brutal.

Nat, I can kind of hear what you mean on reflection, I still just like them better because of the music, mostly. :D

Well, musically, I can definitely stipulate that CC and DF are very different. No doubt about that. I just thought you were a fan of of the riff in general, but I guess I can understand if you're not a fan of the brutal riff. There is a difference between DF and HOWL, after all. :D
I still think CC and DF have very similar vocals, though. Very cookie monster-y in both cases. Then again, you also like The Red Chord a lot more than I do as well, and their vocals are JUST like CC to my ears. I like RC well enough, and they get the crowd pretty jacked up when they play live, but they border pretty closely on deathcore to me. In a way, so does CC - they just steer clear of the breakdowns for the most part, but the vocals remind me of something that might come from a deathcore vocalist at times - and I thought that bothered you more than it does me. Just sayin'. ;)

"This is the end of a sickening tale
Of life death and repeat
Radiant waves of dissonant ways
Set forth through the halls of refrain
You're a plague, you're a plague
And you feed off the youth but it won't keep you young
You're a plague, you're a plague
And your prophets are gone
And you harbor your share of the blame."
Gonna run through this album and Deliver Us. That metalcore sucks thread got me in the mood.

Darkest HourBy the way, I agree with you that there is actually some good metalcore out there. This band and Unearth are two good examples. I saw DH live at Summer Slaughter last year, and they really impressed me. Surprise band of the fest. I've yet to see Unearth live, but I'm still on the lookout. They just tour with such shitty bands that it's really hard to justify buying a ticket most of the time.

Yeah, if you don't think this song is fucking badass, then I don't want to know you. That big riff during the first verse is just SICK AS FUCK.

I'd like to see both of those bands live...but they only tour with other metalcore bands.

Unearth were on the tour with Cannibal Corpse and Hate Eternal not long ago, I don't remember if Hatebreed was headlining the show or not, but I was hoping to catch them there but I missed it. That probably would have been my most justifiable chance to see Unearth ever
