I love your loyalty, but I can't always agree with it. Keep in mind that I am a huge Gilmour fan. He is probably my favorite guitarist. But The Wall tour was brilliant. I saw it twice and it was amazing both times. You know that I am not a guitarist, but I thought Dave Kilminster did an excellent job on Gilmour's solos. And The Dark Side Of The Moon tour was amazing a couple of years ago also. I am really glad that I got to see those tours. I don't think Floyd will ever tour again so this was the next best thing. You should have taken advantage of the opportunity while you could.

Same goes for Alice In Chains. You are missing some great shows. ;)

Nah, the next best thing was the Gilmour tour for On an Island with the late, great Rick Wright. That DVD is possibly my favorite of all time. I'm much more okay with Gilmour enlisting help to play Floyd songs since Floyd carried on without Waters, but that's just me. Also, Waters is kind of a prick, and his solo stuff and the stuff he wrote everything on for Floyd is rarely as good as stuff with creative input from Gilmour. Glad you had a good time though.

I'd consider seeing AIC, I think. It's a little different since they have an album out now and Staley's been dead awhile. But I'll still put an asterisk by their name in my mind from now on. ;)

How where the shows, dude? Where the Visuals and Lighting effects pretty epic? Roger sound top notch as usual? I'm saving myself the anticipation by not spoiling myself and watching past concerts on youtube...just waiting for the show.... I will be seeing the concert on the 30th of this month with a couple of pals :fist:

Don't get me wrong, the Gilmour tour was also amazing. Echoes was worth the price of admission alone. But the set was only half Floyd. I mean, we are talking about Dark Side and The Wall played in their entirety. With the full arena production. :)

It will blow your mind. Don't be late. Definitely one of the best opening to a show that I have ever seen. The sound and visuals were amazing and the songs sounded almost exactly like the disc. I would probably see it a 3rd time if I could.

I would probably blow my brains out if I had to see the greatest guitar solos of all time being played by someone besides the man who wrote them. Pink Floyd ain't Pink Floyd without David Gilmour, friendo.

Are you implying anything Hammett has ever written or played in any way qualifies as one of the greatest solos of all-time?

Are you implying anything Hammett has ever written or played in any way qualifies as one of the greatest solos of all-time?

 Besides the point, but also true.

I was alluding to the fact that four dudes playing a Halloween show in a bar for four bucks is a hell of a lot different than Roger Waters charging obscene rates in an arena with a setlist entirely built of music that was made great largely thanks to someone else and presumptuously playing it like he has the sole right to.

JRA
11-22-2010, 08:18 PM
Hammett may suck at replicating them live, but yes he has.

Overpriced tickets are one thing, but Pink Floyd's classic music was the result of both Waters and Gilmour. I personally don't give a shit about this tour, (in fact I forgot about it until it was brought up) but everyone I've spoken to about has nothing but good things to say about it. And saying you'd rather be shot in the head instead of see someone other than Gilmour play his solos just makes you sound like a whiny little bitch. That's even more absurd than my not wanting to see bands live because they don't play their music in the proper key! I think I'll take "stay at home" over "shotgun to the face" thanks very much.

Waters wrote every song on The Wall except for 4. (and he co-wrote the other 4.) I think he has the right to play it live.

He does, I just think he's still bitter about A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell existing and not that confident in the selling power of his (usually bad) solo stuff. Gilmour played all of On an Island live, and it was awesome.

The Wall is my least favorite of the "classic Floyd records" anyway, so I probably would have skipped this show even if I didn't have my weird principled thing.

Final Frontier is miles away from the heavyness of AMOLAD, althought not as good overall, there are definatelly some amazing songs on it , just not sure how it will transfer in a set, most of the songs are really 'spacy' , it's amazing sitting down in the sofa with a few beers, but in the context of a gig, at least half the album is too mellow to be played live imho

Yeah, this is some damn good black metal. Actually, it's just damn good metal, period.

Solid album (most songs are good-to-great)? Check.
Awesome black metal ambience? Check.
Memorable riffs? Check.
Angry vocals? Check.
Competent musicianship? Check.
Damn decent production (especially for black metal)? Check.

Second best album of the entire year, though? Yeah, I just don't see it. Personally, I like what Black Anvil did this year on "Triumvirate" (mixing black metal with punk and sludge for a slightly different take on what can be an otherwise uninventive sub-genre) just a little bit more than this, but hey - that's just me. Obviously I'm maybe not the tr00-est of black metal fans. At any rate, chances still look pretty good for me seeing both Watain and Black Anvil - with a side order of Goatwhore - tonight. :fist:
