View Full Version : Triptykon/1349/Withered to tour US?

So it looks like the official tour line-up is Triptykon w/ 1349 and Yakuza. Withered is listed as playing the Philly date, though, in place of Yakuza.

Statement from Tom G. Warrior:
Ever since my earliest days in Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, I have been extremely fortunate to be able to count on the support, fanaticism, and immense loyalty of the North American metal scene. The recognition my work has received there eclipses anything I have ever encountered in my own native country. Of the 125 concerts performed on the final Celtic Frost tour in 2006 and 2007, for example, a full 71 were played in North America. Some of these performances rank among the most memorable ones in my entire career.

It is thus an immense honor for me to now bring my new group Triptykon to North America for the first time. Triptykon is further pursuing the path I once began with Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, and I am looking forward to continuing to forge this darkest of musical alliances with all of you. We shall all celebrate masses of unleashed heaviness and morbidity. Only death is real!

Yeah, I was pretty excited about the possibility of that Nachtmystium tour as well, but this clears things up for them to do their own headlining thing, which I'm totally cool with. Here's a quote from Tom G. on what (vaguely) happened with Nachtmystium:

"Talks about a tour with Nachtmystium as a special guest to Triptykon had progressed to a somewhat advanced state. Regardless of what would have been a musically ideal pairing, however, we were eventually forced to decide that certain aspects of Nachtmystium's approach were detrimental to our own intentions."

The misunderstanding stems from past ties to a record label that released some NSBM, as well as comments he made in an interview that referred to "MTV and other Zionist means of demoralizing young American's artistic standards"

Probably not - there are too many large gaps. My local venue has a show posted on their web site:

10/13/10 - Triptykon / 1349 / Yakuza - The Grog Shop - Cleveland, OH

...and I'm looking into it as we speak. Chances are good. ;)

The Grog is way small...it's an old coffee house that's been converted to a bar...the stage is about eighteen inches off the ground and smack dab in a corner of the room, so the performers literally have to walk through the crowd to get up onto it...holds a few hundred people - tops - standing room only.

In other words, it's awesome. :D

EDIT: I've seen (and filmed) a shitload of bands there, including:

ISIS
Pelican
High on Fire (twice)
Russian Circles (twice)
Made Out of Babies
Mono
Converge
Young Widows
Keelhaul (twice)
Caspian
Red Sparowes
Fang Island
Boris
Torche

Fuck me. I clicked on this thread to post about Withered, only to be reminded that they aren't on this tour after all (Yakuza took their place). Dammit.

Well, here is my post about Withered anyway, since I already took the time to write it, and since I think they definitely deserve the mention: :D

"I saw Withered "by accident" (i.e., as an opener, and didn't know a thing about them at the time), with Lair of the Minotaur, Kylesa and The Ocean at Peabody's in Cleveland during May 2008. They were (are) awesome, and totally unsung thus far. They are buds with Kylesa (and by extension, Baroness, Mastodon and many of the other bands from the amazing Atlanta / Savannah metal scene), which is presumably how they got onto the tour. They are a sludge / doom outfit with somewhat of a blackened edge (which is presumably the connection that makes them a decent fit with Triptykon), and their music is very dense and heavy as fuck. When I saw them, I remember thinking "this is what would happen if something dark and atmospheric like Isis were to be fused with [insert name of favorite death metal band here]". Both their debut full-length album, 2005's "Memento Mori", and their 2008 sophomore album, "Folie Circulaire" were praised by fans and critics alike, and made numerous year-end and decade-end lists."

In short, I kinda wish Withered were on this tour. :snivel:
