View Full Version : Should Slayer Have 2 Different Set Lists?

Should Slayer start using a "new" setlist and an "old" setlist while touring? Perhaps one tour could focus mainly on newer material (post Seasons) and another on older material (Seasons and before).

Here's how I'd do it:

NEW
1. Darkness of Christ
2. Disciple
3. Bitter Peace
4. Fictional Reality
5. Dittohead
6. Cult
7. Hate Worldwide
8. Stain of Mind
9. Raining Blood
10. Jihad
11. Killing Fields
12. Psychopathy Red
13. Scrum/Point (rotate)
14. Chemical Warfare
----------------------
15. World Painted Blood
16. Sex. Murder. Art
----------------------
17. Snuff/Supremist/Circle of Beliefs (rotate)
18. Angel of Death

OLD
1. Raining Blood
2. Hell Awaits
3. War Ensamble
4. Jesus Saves
5. Evil Has no Boundaries
6. Seasons in the Abyss
7. Silent Scream
8. Ghosts of War
9. Die by the Sword
10. At Dawn They Sleep
11. Chemical Warfare
12. Captor of Sin
13. Haunting the Chapel
14. Spirit in Black
----------------------------
15. South of Heaven
16. War Ensemble
----------------------------
17. Praise of Death/Black Magic/Aggressive Perfector (rotate)
18. Angel of Death

They should just stick to this one

I do think it'd be cool though if they added some Divine Intervention songs in, that's a very overlooked album. "Fictional Reality", "Dittohead", and "Sex.Murder.Art" are all great songs.

If I paid good money to see Slayer put on that set...I would riot.

I think what they're doing right now is fine. But a "new" setlist for Slayer wouldn't work as well as say what Maiden is doing right now. Diablous in Musica and God Hates Us All wern't well recieved at all. Slayer is in my top 2 bands ever, and I think those albums are pretty bad (save a few songs).

God Hates Us All

Save Disciple, which is pretty unanimously considered their best Post-Seasons song.

I wouldn't. That would be awesome. I love seeing bands pull out unconventional setlists.

Dammit. I knew I would forget something:hecho:

Obviously, the old setlist would go over much better than the new, but sometimes it feels like Slayer shoe horns in new songs just because they have to. They could do a tour of just new stuff and get it all out of their system for a while.

Well if we think people are bitching about Maiden playing too much new stuff, imagine what it would be like for Slayer? People would be flipping shit  I can already see it  I don't think their just tossing in new stuff because they feel they should, I mean their latest headlining set that didn't have all of Seasons in it was

01. World Painted Blood
02. Hate Worldwide
03. Cult
04. Disciple
05. Expendable Youth
06. War Ensemble
07. Jihad
08. Payback
09. Beauty Through Order
10. Seasons In The Abyss
11. Hell Awaits
12. Mandatory Suicide
13. Chemical Warfare
14. Raining Blood
15. Aggressive Perfector
16. South Of Heaven
17. Silent Scream
18. Angel Of Death

Of 18 songs their playing, only 7 are from their last 4 albums, and we might as well make that 6 since Disciple is pretty well loved. 3 of them are from their latest since I mean, they should play stuff from their latest record. So only 3 songs really from "recent meterial."

It would break up the predictability of Slayer setlists which would be a good thing for people who have seen them multiple times. However, if it was my first time seeing them I would be pissed if I didn't hear Hell Awaits, Mandatory Suicide, South of Heaven, War Ensemble, and Seasons in the Abyss,

Exactly, Slayer fans have carved the bands name into their flesh you do not want to piss these people off.

I'm an old-school fan and definitely prefer pre-Seasons material over post-seasons material. But I'd pay to see a post-Seasons set if it was just a one-time thing. It would changes things up a bit and I'd be curious about the crowd reaction. I've seen Slayer about 20 times. I love War Ensemble, Angel of Death, Raining Blood, South of Heaven, Mandatory Suicide, Dead Skin Mask, Chemical Warfare and Hell Awaits. But Slayer has played these songs every time I've seen them. If they left them out just once in place of post-Seasons material, I'd be cool w/ it.

I've seen them 16 times since 1987 and I agree. Although I'd prefer they do a set of older songs they never or almost never play in concert.

Stuff like:

Final Command
Read Between the Lies
Ghosts of War
Kill Again
Praise of Death
Temptation
Tormentor
Spill the Blood
Evil has no Boundaries
Crypts of Eternity

Also throw in something rare like Unguarded Instinct or Human Disease and I'd be all over that.

Would be cool, but only like 5 people out of a crowd of 5000 would recognize it ;)

I disagree, Angel of Death is FAR better as a closer.

Have you lost your ever loving mind? Hell Awaits is by far the most underrated Slayer album to me. Kill Again, Hardening of The Arteries and Praise of Death are often overlooked and 3 of my personal favorites.

THE FASTER THE BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since we're on the topic of Slayer setlists, I'll post my dream set:

I kept it realistic by:
1) keeping in "Disciple" because it's a staple :barf:
2) keeping it under 2 hours
3) having one song a piece from Christ Illusion and World Painted Blood because they're gonna play new stuff, like it or not

Hell Awaits
Kill Again
Metal Storm/Face the Slayer
At Dawn They Sleep
Disciple
Chemical Warfare
War Ensemble
Seasons in the Abyss
Silent Scream
Live Undead
Beauty Through Order
Cult
Dead Skin Mask
Ghosts of War
Read Between the Lies
Crypts of Eternity
Necrophobic
Postmortem
Raining Blood

South of Heaven
Black Magic
Angel of Death
