Maiden will probably take the stage around 9 tomorrow night so here is a countdown to that: http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/customcounter.html?month=06&day=09&year=2010&hour=9pm&min=00&sec=00&p0=70 I can't wait to see what the setlist, stage production, and Eddie are like! Hmmmmmmmmmm, maybe we can discuss any rumors about the setlist or stage show going around. It won't be long now before Maiden takes the stage!

So far, I was PM'ed on here and told that Brighter Than A Thousand Suns was heard being rehearsed.

I went by the venue tonight around 8pm. (Had dinner with my folks and they live ten minutes from the Superpages.com Center)

It's an outdoor shed, so I thought I might hear a soundcheck or maybe see a tour bus. No luck.

If you espect a "shit your pants - they pulled that out?" song, you're pretty much setting yourself up for disappointment. At most, I'd expect one big surprise that's not off a reunion album for this tour. I'd look at my prediction setlist on page 1 to see what I mean.

What do you have to work with that you're basing those predictions off of?

Experience with Maiden's tendencies?

This. Aside from the confirmation of "El Dorado" and "Brighter Than a Thousand Suns" - logic suggests that the band would never not play Iron Maiden, Fear of the Dark, and Hallowed Be Thy Name on any tour, and never not play Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills, and The Trooper on a "Hits" Tour. So that's 8 out of 16 probable songs right there. Then I threw in a few other highly likely songs based on Maiden history (The Evil That Men Do, Wasted Years), 2 songs based on somewhat wishful thinking (Phantom of the Opera, 22 Acacia Avenue), and 4 other reunion songs based on the probability of this set including a good chunk of them (The Wicker Man, Brave New World, No More lies, and Paschendale). I then just arranged them in a logical order. I probably should've included "2 Minutes to Midnight", odds are they'll do that.

And Dream Theater's set is based on Portnoy's claim that it's aiming to be a heavy and accessible set. Which means heavy songs, relatively straight-forward, and nothing over 8-ish minutes. "A Rite of Passage", "As I Am", and "Pull Me Under" seem like no-brainers, and the other tunes are just songs I see quite probable.

SomewhereInTime72
06-09-2010, 12:47 PM
Maiden skipped FOTD on the Early Days tour. ;)

Not that I particularly want them to skip it again, it's a really good live song. Chances are if they skip it there'd a be a song in the set that's not as awesome as it :(. The exception to this being that they should have omitted it on the SBIT tour in favor of more SIT material :bouville:.

Ah, I see. It will be interesting to see how much you're correct. I'll bet at least 80%.

PowerMaiden
06-09-2010, 01:15 PM
I for one will be very surprise if they play Wasted Years again on this tour. I wish they'd do Phantom & 22 but that's not likely to hapen. They will probably pull one out of the left field like they did with Moonchild on the last tour, my money is on Be Quick Or Be Dead, just gut feeling.

Cheers !

Here's my "wishful thinking, but still realistic" setlist (in no particular order):

The Wicker Man
The Trooper
Paschendale
Number of the Beast
Wasted Years
The Evil That Men Do
Blood Brothers
The Longest Day
El Dorado
Ghost of the Navigator
Brighter Than a Thousand Suns
Run To the Hills
2 Minutes To Midnight
Hallowed Be Thy Name
Iron Maiden
Fear of the Dark

And the one surprise I would want that's fairly doable: Rainmaker

I know it wouldn't be that BNW-heavy, but I would be 100% pleased with that.

Travis The Dragon
06-09-2010, 01:45 PM
I really hope they'll surprise us and do another song from TFF! Possibly Mother Of Mercy since it's the shortest one? I know it's VERY doubtful, but it's hard to say for sure. We'll know soon enough though! Well, I may not know until later since I do have to go to my sister's high school graduation which is at 7 tonight here in Minnesota. Hopefully it won't last more than a couple hours so I can be back in time for all the excitement.

powerslave_85
06-09-2010, 01:48 PM
Yeah, I'd say there's no chance of that happening. Not this early, anyways.

Maiden33
06-09-2010, 01:49 PM
Not gonna happen, and I'm glad. I wanted them to pre-release a song because I didn't want to dig through bootleg videos trying to familiarize myself with the new song. Also, I'm sure whenever they get around to the proper album tour, there will be a heaping-helping of new material. I'd rather save the set spot for another reunion tune I've never seen and might never get the chance to see again.

powerslave_85
06-09-2010, 01:51 PM
Hearing a new song for the first time in a live setting sucks. With no frame of reference, it usually just sounds like noise anyways and it's hard to form an opinion.

Travis The Dragon
06-09-2010, 02:03 PM
The main reason I'm hoping they'll do another song is because I'm too impatient to wait for the album release. And hearing another song, even on a live bootleg, is better than nothing for me. :)

Didn't you see them in 2008? They did a cumulative 7 songs from those two records then.

This setlist certainly IS possible. In the last couple of years, through the Amolad tour and various interviews, I've realized that Maiden DO have the intent to not just be a tired old hits-machine. If they really want to do a reunion-focused tour, this isn't the least bit out of the question.

If What I'm reading is correct, so far it's:

As I Am
A Rite Of Passage
Home
A Nightmare To Remember
Pull Me Under

Unless someone from Iron Maiden comes out and joins Dream Theater on stage, I really hope they don't play To Tame A Land. I love the Original and I LOVE the DT version, but playing a cover of the band you're opening for is pretty lame IMO.

JRA

The Nomad is awesome because of that intro riff (which is essentially a much improved and less douchey modern rock version of "I Dissapear," even though BNW came first) and that really schweet 3 minute melodic breakdown and buildup in the middle. That part should by all accounts, but they give a nice hummable melody for 16 bars, alter it for the next 16, and so on and so on until Bruce comes back in. It's an exercise in underplayed metamorphasis.

As for HBTN, this is going to sound like blasphemy, but that song needs to go away forever. I don't know what the hell Iron Maiden did in the studio, but every note and beat of that song was so perfect, that to deviate from playing it note for note, beat for beat with the most intense scrutiny is bastardizing the song. There is no reason whatsoever to deviate from the structure of that song, and Maiden have done it time and time again and it pisses me the fuck off! Neither Dave nor Adrian have ever, ever, ever gotten their solos right live which makes me wonder if they even played the leads on the studio album to begin with. The solos are the stitching that hold the song together and not playing them basically makes it all for nothing. Maiden don't seem to realize that —despite the fact that they think it's their Stairway to Heaven— and they don't seem to care. If they're gonna take that attitude, I say fuck that song. I'd rather hear a 2nd tier song played properly than a top tier song played like shit.

idrinkwine732
06-10-2010, 01:39 PM
Why?

You have to understand that even the most die hard of fans will want to see the classics on their first show. To not play Hallowed, NOTB and still play Nomad and Wildest Dreams is ridiculous. I understand the reunion set idea, and I'm willing to roll with it since I'll probably see them played the next time I see Maiden, but c'mon...

"The Nomad" is a terrible, terrible, terrible... terrible song. :)

I think you have some valid points about "Hallowed Be Thy Name" and I'll also add that the addition of a third guitar, and the rushed tempo that the song is usually played at live don't improve the situation either.

"The Nomad" is a terrible, terrible, terrible... terrible song. :)

Maiden have never made one "terrible, terrible, terrible... terrible" song. One terrible is fine, but they've never made anything that offends me nearly that strongly. From the experience of seeing Maiden tributes do a huge chunk of Maiden's catalog, there are very, very few songs I would actually totally NOT want to see live just once.

There doesn't really seem to be any better info out there - I've been keeping an eye on the official forum and nothing, at least as far as pictures go.

Unless there's something really special up their sleeves (like a great event shirt), I already know I'm buying that Wicker Man shirt. I doubt they'll keep selling it after this leg, and I fucking love that it has the Brave New World cover on the back.

Unless there's something really special up their sleeves (like a great event shirt), I already know I'm buying that Wicker Man shirt. I doubt they'll keep selling it after this leg, and I fucking love that it has the Brave New World cover on the back.

Yeah well I posted it just in case someone else finds something, but thanks for looking. i just know that there is an event shirt, and maybe five others that weren't in that picture. Need to know before my date cause I want to know how much money to take to the show.

By the way, that Wicker man shirt looks ugly IMO

Well, there is undoubtedly the possibility that there were a couple of Dream Theater shirts, that may have been numbers 1-3 or so. They are a big enough support band to warrant merch, but I don't know if they'd have their own stand or something. Not that Maiden wouldn't have as many as 12-15 shirts, but I just can't really think of what else they would have. Maybe something centered around Dance of Death/maybe Wildest Dreams artwork, an event shirt, and maybe something else. If there happened to be a shirt with Brave New World on the cover, I'd definitely be buying that.

yeah I completely forgot about the support bands shirts. At Irvine last year, Anthrax shared a merch booth with maiden, so it makes sense. Still though, I really want to see the rest of the maiden merch since there has to be some Dance of Death shirts there. Maybe a Paschendale shirt

Yeah, I might have to get the Wicker Man one. I used to have one just like it, but it doesn't fit anymore. If there's an event shirt, though, I'm definitely getting that.

I don't suppose there's any word on how much Dream Theater shirts cost? I'm gonna be really pissed if they're $30 or $35, but I've learned that that band is conceited enough to charge that much for shirts.

I know a guy going tomorrow who said he'd get merch info for both bands, so we'll know then at the latest.

I honestly don't recall seeing any DT merchandise. I'm not saying there wasn't any, I just don't remember any. Probably wasn't really looking for it.

Im interested in those first two, maybe get the second one on a later tour though.

You think you can post the last two in another way like photobucket or something. I don't have a IMFC membership.

I'll probably get the American flag, the album artwork, the Final Stare, El Dorado, and whatever event shirts they have at my dates. Plus the poster and maybe the scarf if it's not too expensive. I better be savin that :money:

Not worried about an album cover shirt or the tour graphic (Eddie face) shirt. I'm sure they'll be available for quite a while.

Same here. Bought a Priest shirt for $35 and I probablt will never again unless Maiden does a KC-specific shirt.

Fortunately Maiden is the only band I ever go to see and want to buy a shirt from that charge $35 for them. I wouldn't buy them at the shows if not for the fact that sometimes the shirts aren't sold post-tour except for Ebay where you'll wind up paying just as much.

It doesn't matter how much I like a band or the art on the shirt, paying $35-40 for something that cost less than $10 to make that nobody other than the occasional enthusiastic metalhead is going to acknowledge doesn't really get me excited.

I don't really dress to excite other people or receive comments on what I wear. It's just a form of self-expression.
Band t-shirts make up 100% of my shirt wardrobe on a casual basis. I realize that doesn't obligate me to buy t-shirts for ridiculous prices, but I'd rather get what I want rather than what's the most convenient. At this stage in the game, my only options for getting shirts I really want is ordering them anyway, so I'm looking at at least $25 including shipping.

Also, when it comes to a band like Maiden, my shirts are a documentation of my experiences seeing them. I haven't bought a Maiden shirt anywhere else other than a show in 5 years. For bands I don't care as much about, I don't bother buying their shirts. Also, not gonna deny that Maiden usually have some sweet fucking artwork on their shirts.

I peeked at the setlist and was somewhat disappointed not find Trooper in there. I've never seen Maiden live, and I was looking forward to the classics. But no point complaining when tracks like Navigator, Paschendale, and Blood Brothers get played.

I saw the show three weeks ago in Detroit. It was hella fun. I hadn't heard anything at all about the set going in, except that they were premiering El Dorado. I didn't know it was going to be so heavy on reunion material. I kinda went nuts about it several times (shit, they're opening with Wicker Man? AND going straight into Ghost of the Navigator? No fucking way!). I missed the Dance of Death "tour", and the BNV tour, so I had never seen any song from those two albums live. It was great. AND I got the amusement of hearing old dudes with beards and denim jackets whining all around me.

Except for ES156, I THINK he's a mod, i've never seen or known of another mod to post on here at all since i've been a member. But I figured someone's gotta still be around right? I mean the board is up and running smoothly on a daily basis so somebody's gotta be doing something you would think.

Anyways I typed that just to cover myself, in case they just mod in silence now so it's easier to catch people doing shit.

It is odd though on the Rush and Sabbath message boards i'm a member of the mods are regular posters like everyone else.
