I recently decided to take some pictures of all the picks/drumsticks/setlists I've acquired at shows over the years, and I figured some of you would be interested in sharing yours as well - so here is a thread for that.

WARNING: For anyone thinking about doing this, DO NOT upload the photos to Facebook and tag any applicable musicians in the pictures. I have been swamped by messages/friend requests asking if I sell/trade guitar picks. :bouville:

I'm not gonna dump a shit ton of pictures at once, but here's a start:
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs553.snc3/30259_1455215377451_1145330772_1351751_566926_n.jp g
From left to right, one row at a time:
Jens ludwig (Edguy), Mark Briody (Jag Panzer), Michael Romeo (Symphony X), Dug Pinnick (King's X), Chris Caffery (Savatage/TSO) x3.

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs513.ash1/30259_1455215417452_1145330772_1351752_2723795_n.j pg
Yngwie Malmsteen (x2), Martin Arendahl (Manticora), Bill Hudson (Cellador), Gus G (Firewind), Doug Scarrat (Saxon), Johnny lee Middleton (Savatage/TSO) x2.

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs533.snc3/30259_1455215457453_1145330772_1351753_3591822_n.j pg
All Tesla picks. I have seen them just a couple of times from up front.

And lastly, the holy grail of my picks:

That is quite the collection of Pics. I am quite impressed.

I don't have any pics of my memorabilia, sans two very important pieces of memorabilia to me I'll save for last but this is my list of bands and musicians I have met with memorabilia mentioned:

Dredg (Met all 4 and hung out with all 4, 3 times, have 3 autographed setlists)

King's X (Doug Pinnick Bass Pic, King's X Promo Poster, Ogre Tones Booklet autographed)

Orange Sky (No memorabilia, but 2 pretty cool and funny stories from when they opened for King's X for anyone interested.)

Iced Earth (Something Wicked part 2 booklet autographed VIP passed autographed and a cool story that Jon Schaffer broke big news to me about that didn't happen till about a year and a half later, again for anyone interested)

*Me taking a picture with Iced Earth When I could have looked a lot better
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/64/l_4dcd12b72ed24565bed9fa442fd3025d.jpg

Mutiny Within (Autographed setlist from Sonata Arctica NA tour and autographed booklet, gave the keyboardist a copy of my bands demo)

Powerglove (Just met the guys didn't have time for autographs, gave the guitarist a copy of my band's demo)

BigElf (Hung out with all 4 guys for a good half hour after opening for Dream Theater, got a BigElf Cheating The Gallows Promo Poster signed)

Scale The Summit (Got a mini Promo card signed by all 4 guys opening for Dream Theater)

Ross The Boss (Met all the guys in his band, Until the upcoming Progpower show, I have the ONLY Ross The Boss USA setlist in existence, they only did 2 shows before Progpower, one in NYC and one at Station 4 in MN, and they didn't have a setlist in NYC, and shared a setlist in MN, which is now sitting in a picture frame on my bedroom wall.)

As I Lay Dying (After Getting Knocked out during Haste The Day's set by some white trash piece of shit, I got the setlist from As I Lay Dying)

*The net 6 I all met at Sounds Of The Underground*

Shadows Fall (Autographed poster. Used to keep in contact with Jason Bittner, but since haven't kept much contact)

Darkest Hour (Hung out with the band during Shadows Fall set, talked to ex guitarist Kris Norris for a good half hour about Devin Townsend and his then upcoming solo album which at the time was just a dream, autographed promo poster)

Every Time I Die (autographed poster, guys didn't talk much if at all)

Amon Amarth (Autographed poster, 2 really funny stories about the guys if anyone is interested)

The Devil Wears Prada (Autographed Poster, 4 of the freakiest motherfuckers I've ever met)

Next is a list of different members of bands:

Mike Portnoy, Drummer of Dream Theater *I'll come back to MP*

John Petrucci, Guitarist of Dream Theater (Autographed Ticket, that's all I had at the time)

Chuck Billy, Singer Of Testament (Chuck's Air Guitar Pick *Testament logo on one side, CHUCK'S PICK on the other* hahahaha)

Ken Susi, Guitarist of Unearth (Autographed setlist of Testament, Hung out with him after the show talking music, one of the most humble guys I've ever met)

Tommy Portimo, Drummer of Sonata Arctica (His drumstick which a girl nearly raped me for when i caught it mid air, outside he signed it for me and we talked about Pearl drums while he had a cigarette)

Benji Helberg, Guitarist of American Head Charge (In my metal cover band, my guitarist is actually best friends with Benji. They went to school together. He has watched us play a few times and has talked about me playing drums on his upcoming solo album...only problem is, I'm not sure if it is ever going to get made, but if it does, remember the name Josh Rundquist, That will be me on the drums. I shit you not!*

Steve Brooks, Singer/Guitarist of Torche (autographed ticket, that's all I had at the time, talked about music and how Torche became one of my top 5 all time favorite bands, which he was very happy to hear and appreciated)

Sergio Robledo-Maderazo, Bassist of From Monument To Masses (A great band that sadly broke up, nothing autographed, just hung out with him for about 20 minutes at the back of the venue talking music)

Anton and Lewis Patzer, Violinist and Cellist of Judgment Day (Fuck Apocalyptica, Judgment day is the REAL STRING METAL BAND, Violin, Cello, Drums, NO BULLSHIT! I seen them open for Dredg and they blew my fucking mind Nothing autographed, but we talked for over an hour after the show, 2 of the coolest dudes I've met in music.)

First up Mike Portnoy and Me (back when I looked like a goober...trust me I look a lot better now)

For the record - I don't really count Autographs. I tend to not worry about getting them when I meet people. If I KNOW in advance that I'm gonna meet someone I'll usually bring stuff, but I never bring it "just in case" and then try to hunt people down and waste their time to have them sign stuff. I'd much rather just get a quick picture and talk for a few minutes about whatever might be relevant.

I'll get to my drumsticks and setlists in a wee bit.

I basically don't have much of this kind of thing at all. I don't hang around outside venues like a dork waiting for bands, (and if I ever do say hey to a band member I certainly don't claim that I've "met" them - jeez, desperate?) and I'm rarely down the front for pick/stick catching.

So the only pick I've got from a show is a Keri Kelli/Alice Cooper one because I was in the photo pit and he throws like a girl. Normally if people in the front row have noticed a pick has landed in the pit I hand it over to whoever looks least desparate in the front row, but I left it there for the whole three songs we were allowed to shoot and no one spotted it, so it became mine.

I have a few signed bits and pieces. Usually sent to me or special editions I've ordered or something. A couple from signing sessions where I was at the show anyway so figured why the fuck not? There's a whole bunch of signing sessions at Sweden Rock every year, but I can't be bothered to attend. There are bands to watch and if I really cared about photos or getting shit signed, I'm back stage every year with more important people than can usually be fucked to do the signing sessions... and I still can't be arsed!

Wrong.

Valid contribution to a discussion topic is always relevant. I'm sure someone said this somewhere else before, but negatively-leaning posts have every right to belong in a topic as positive ones. The problem posts are discussions about specific bands and some asshole just says "They suck, you're all fags" or whatever. That's irrelevant.

Unless of course this is just a cock-measuring thread? In which case no, I agree, genuine discussion has no place here.

Chris Kinder (Jon Oliva's Pain), Jason Rullo (Symphony X), Bobby Jarzombek (Halford, Riot - was playing with Sebastian Bach at the time), Jeff Plate (Savatage/TSO - from Metal Church show), Jeff Plate (Savatage/TSO - from TSO show), Felix Bohnke (Edguy), Mark Cross (Firewind), Troy lucketta (Tesla), Patrik Johansson (Yngwie Malmsteen)

Jeez, my post was pretty much meant as a jest. Especially the critic/not a fan bit - hence the winky smiley.

But my point was that basically this was a thread for those who enjoy looking at this sort of stuff and discussing the acquirement of it - not someone who is basically going to look down on people who care about it.

Oh, and the really tiny blonde in the RATM crowd on Sunday. What a God-send she was. Stood right behind her the whole time - clear view!

I don't *try* to get anything, but when I do get picks, I put them in this little picture frame I bought with a white fabric background that I put in. I have picks from DragonForce (touring bassist, woohoo), Porcupine Tree (Steven Wilson), Sepultura (Andreas Kisser), Queensryche (Michael Wilton), and Megadeth (Glen Drover).

The only ones that were definitely intentional were from Kisser - he actually reached out, grabbed my hand, opened it, put the pick inside, and closed it again, I guess he liked that I was singing all the old shit at the top of my lungs :D - and from Wilton, who pointed at me and threw it right to me. Again, must have been impressed that I knew every word of Mindcrime.

And I've met and had conversations with countless musicians but I'm pretty uncomfortable asking for pictures, as they are just dudes like me, and I'd rather have a conversation than take a picture. Only exception is Mikael ┼kerfeldt, and even then I basically took the piss, because a picture with a couple of metal dudes giving the horns is just fucking desperate and cliche and I stopped doing that when I was 15. Anyway, ┼kwardfelt picture below. :D

I agree, but that's nothing compared to when someone throws a pick or a drumstick and no one catches it. Have you seen people go nuts for that shit trying to find it?

It's hilarious when two of them spot it on the floor at once and clash heads

The only thing worse is when two people catch something at the same time and fight over it. Funniest instance of that I saw was when Zakk Wylde threw his guitar into the crowd at the Astoria in London. The dumbfucks actually thought if they won the fight to grab it they'd get to keep it!

At Clutch on Sunday, I told my 14-year-old brother, who has never been to a concert before, to wait around on the rail when the roadies were tearing up the setlists to see if he could get one. Guy goes to hand it to him and a GODDAMN GROWN MAN JUMPS ON HIS BACK AND TRIES TO WRESTLE IT AWAY. My brother held onto it though. Kid's gonna be a badass. ;)

I have never actually caught or been handed anything at a show before. I have come close on numerous occasions but then something stupid always happens and I blow it. That is actually one of my goals for this summer is catch something at a show.

I have met plenty of band members and gotten shit signed. The only time I have ever been nervous was when I met Mastodon. I was pretty much shitting my pants and that was the only time I have ever met a band and I just felt like a kiss-ass fanboy. I have long since gotten over that and now I never act strange around bands. They are just regular people that are often very friendly and apprecitative of the support.

Yes, because taking a mock blow-job picture is so much more mature. :tp:

I didn't intend for this to be a "post pictures of you with musicians" thread, by the way. I mean if people want to take it there, whatever, but I wasn't going to post anyway.

By the way, my pictures I take with musicians are to remember the experience in the event that it's a really fond memory or someone I really idolize. It's not like: "Well here's the awkward obligatory horns picture". My photo in a New York Diner with Manticora at 4AM is completely genuine, it was the summation of 2 days of good times and random fun at two shows. I don't stop people to get pictures, but if it's a real relaxed environment and I've said what I wanted to say, I'll go for it unless I sense some sort of a weird vibe.

I realize now that I should have added this to my post when I wrote it up...

I'm not a band stalker. About 90% of all the bands I've met were at a venue called Station 4 in St. Paul, MN and to anyone who has ever been there, you know that because of the size of the place the bands actually come out to you and start haning out. The other occasions were meet and greets and the two occasions where I did wait out by the bus (John Petrucci and the bassist of From Monument To Masses).

Also my hair has gotten a bit longer since then, not shoulder length, but getting there. Also less weight.

I am very jealous of the above material, especially the Mastodon and Ozzy related memorabilia.

My biggest regreat was not sticking around after seeing Mastodon/Kylesa/Intronaut. According to the whole tour, 20 minutes after the equipment was off stage, all 4 guys came out and hung out with crowd. I left about 10 minutes after realizing that I couldn't get Brann's setlist which was taped to his drum carpet.

Also LOVE the Vinnie Paul and Gene Hoglan autographs, 2 of my biggest inspirations behind the drums.

Haha, the same thing happened to me when I was 16 and Michael Wilton tried to give me a pick. He didn't throw it into the crowd or anything he just kinda tossed it to me, and suddenly this huge ass guy (I was pretty fat back then, but he still dwarfed me) jumps on me and grabs it. When I got back up Wilton was just like "...:eyes:"
