Of course, it has something to do with the new album. I do notice they took away all the tabs at the top so probably a new site design for it. And hopefully a new song to go with it! :rocker:  :rocker:

As long as the tracktitles mentioned here before are fake I´ll be fine. If they ever release a song named "Murky Space Race" I would be all like :bouville:

It's gonna be one of 3 things:

1) Album Artwork

2) Album Tracklisting

3) Single Release Information

Maybe all 3. Either way, great news.

If my math is correct, the countdown seems to be right up to Maiden's Rockline appearance.

If you mean the free one that says they're closed to take heat off the server, I wonder it they're taking it away for good to get people to pay for the fanclub. Here's a pretty good free forum in case: http://forum.maidenfans.com/index.php

I think when a band puts a countdown on their site, especially when it involves something as major as a new album, it deserves its own thread

Exactly! A thread must be made when something is announced that will lead to another announcement which will in turn need another thread. That's common sense people.

It's rumored that it's the single, at the very least. I am excited. :D

Where are you getting that rumor from? It would make a lot of sense for sure. Someone at maidenfans made this point:
It also makes sense for it to be the single. Thinking back to GME tour and Bruces 'rant' about Metallica and Napster and then saying "Upload Wildest Dreams and buy it if you like it". They'll probably just save us having to find a good copy of the song or only listening to terrible versions by giving us the proper version in advance. Makes sense.

Travis The Dragon

When the countdown runs out, I just hope the site doesn't slow down too bad or freeze up with everyone trying to get on it at once. That's what happened with the announcement of the N.A. dates.

Probably this one. On the GMETID tour (which was right before Dance of Death) they only played Wildest Dreams, which was released in a similar fashion to this song.

After 6-7 listens, I love the new track. Unlike the last album, the lull period in the break isn't so boring and overall it's a very fast song and strong. They have a solid riff, and everything is what I want out of them.

The Single Artwork is by far one of my favorites of all time, I love that kinda shit. 1950's style movie posters. I would love to get that tattoo'd on me haha ;)

But overall, "El Dorado" get's a 9 out of 10 (can't say anything is perfect haha).

This album has TREMENDOUS promise! So the wait is on!

Since apparently a lot of people still haven't seen the official press release:

The release date for IRON MAIDEN’S new studio album THE FINAL FRONTIER is now confirmed for Monday 16th August. The new album pictured here features artwork illustrated by Melvyn Grant and, to mark the occasion, the band have made special arrangements for one new album track 'EL DORADO' to be made available Worldwide as a FREE digital download MP3 with immediate effect.

Singer Bruce Dickinson explains ‘El Dorado is a preview of the forthcoming studio album. As we will be including it in the set of our Final Frontier World Tour (which opens in Dallas On 9th June - full dates below) we thought it would be great to thank all our fans and get them into The Final Frontier mood by giving them this song up front of the tour and album release’

The band reunited with long-time Maiden producer Kevin “Caveman” Shirley in early 2010 at Compass Point Studios, Nassau to record the album and then moved to LA to finish the recording and do the mixing. Compass Point Studio is very familiar to the band, it was where they recorded the Piece Of Mind (’83), Powerslave (’84) and Somewhere In Time (’86) albums.

Bruce comments “The studio had the same vibe and it was EXACTLY as it had been in 1983, NOTHING had changed! Even down to the broken shutter in the corner...same carpet....everything... It was really quite spooky. But we felt very relaxed in such a familiar and well-trodden environment and I think this shows in the playing and the atmosphere of the album”

Thirty years on from their eponymous debut album in April 1980, The Final Frontier will be Maiden’s 15th studio album, making a remarkable average of a new album every two years for 30 years and totalling over 80 million album sales during this period.

The full tracklisting for the album (total running time 76:35) is:

THE FINAL FRONTIER
1. Satellite 15....The Final Frontier 8:40
2. El Dorado 6:49
3. Mother Of Mercy 5:20
4. Coming Home 5:52
5. The Alchemist 4:29

7. Starblind 7:48
8. The Talisman 9:03
9. The Man Who Would Be King 8:28
10. When The Wild Wind Blows 10:59

The Final Frontier World Tour begins in Dallas on June 9th with 25 shows in major cities across the USA and Canada, playing to an expected 350,000 fans or more. Following this the tour will ship over to Europe starting in Dublin on July 30 and playing a few selected major festivals and stadiums , finishing in Valencia, Spain, on Aug 21 and including a concert in Transylvania.

Says bass player and founder member Steve Harris “We’re hugely excited about this tour. I think the fans will really like the brand new stage production and lights and we will also be debuting one of the new album tracks , El Dorado. Our Texan fans will be the very first people anywhere to hear it live, so it will be interesting to see their reaction and how it goes down with the crowd on the night! Eddie has changed a bit for this tour but is possibly the most outrageous one to date... I can’t say too much about him as don’t want to spoil the surprise but I guarantee he will scare the hell out of you!”

Maiden have proven to me that they can write a great album that's 65-70 minutes, so I have no reason to have no faith in 7 extra minutes. Also - yeah, if this is the last one - the more, the better.

And to my knowledge there is still no official word on whether or not this is the last one. I have a feeling there is a VERY strong chance of that, but they set up a nice barrier here - having the album space-themed allows them to possibly make another one without embarrassing themselves, should they decide they want to.

Absolutely not in a million years. If a disc is EP length then it should be EP price, not album price. There is such a thing as too short for the price all day long.

If you pay album price for a 30-35 minute album then you've been stiffed.

I don't necessarily think the announcement of the album signifies anything as far as whether it's their last or not. I don't think I read anything definite in the press release.

If it's the usual quality album from Maiden, however, I would be fine with it being their last one.

This is how they'll retire...They will play a sell out show at Wembley for their last show and then the entire world will weep together. Jews and Muslims will hold hands together, while Obama and Limbaugh embrace, with Mustaine and Hetfield both weeping into eachother's shoulders. For that day alone, the world will be at peace.

That pretty much accounts for every single one of my album purchases of the last 5 years. 99% of them have been worth every penny. :D The ones that were too long, I felt ripped off.

The CD being able to hold more than 50 minutes to music has been one of the worst things to ever happen to music. It makes the album drag too long for its own good. 80 minute albums make me think "well it's finally over, thank god." An album should kick your ass for 30 minutes and make you want to play it again afterwards cos its over so soon. If an album doesn't do that, then you've been stiffed.

The Number of the Beast is only 45 minutes long. Heaven & Hell, the album that so many Dio fans love so fucking much, is only 40 minutes. Nuff said.

Please stop painting music as a whole with such a broad fucking brush. Clearly there's good long albums and good short albums. This is not going to be bad on the principle that it is long. If it's bad (and I doubt that very seriously) it will have everything to do with the music.

I couldn't have put it better myself. Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime is an hour long and it's AMAZING from beginning to end. Maiden's NOTB is 45 minutes long and it's AMAZING from beginning to end. Pink Floyd's The Wall is a double CD and it's AMAZING from beginning to end. Why? Because the music is great, not the lengths of the songs or albums.

Yes, but those should be the exceptions. Not the rule. My point is the rule for releasing an album seems to be that it always has to be at least 70 minutes long, and 70% of the time that's 30 minutes too many.

(Incidentally, perhaps Reign In Blood could have used an extra 90 seconds of riffing scattered amongst 7 songs, but that's a different discussion for a different day.)

Especially for bands who made their bread when their records were records, which limits them to 40-50 minutes on a single disc. Metallica pioneered the philosophy of "holy shit we can fit 80 minutes of music, let's double the length/number of songs to give our fans the most for their money". We all know how that worked out.

Agreed with the other post that it's pretty pointless. The only reason I think it's proper to bring a flag is when you've traveled from out of the country for the show. MAYBE if the band is foreign, and it's their flag. Bringing an American flag kinda screams: "Fuck yeah! I'm American!" With no real reason for it.

Late to thread, but saw all of the new stuff on the maiden website earlier.

El Dorado - After listening to it for the second time, I must say, i am really impressed by this, especially with the chorus. No more repeated words for half a minute each chorus. Although, to me it does sound more like a Bruce solo project song then a maiden song.

Album Art - I'm very disappointed that the new Eddie looks nothing like the traditional Eddie of years past, but I must say, Iron maiden have done much worse.

Tracklisting - Songs are on the long side, but that doesn't mean anything. I guess I will have to wait for the album to come out before I make any judgments on whether or not it's too long.

the song is meh.

the chorus sounds like Dickinson solo material.

The noodling at the begining and end of the song is annoying, unnecessary and sounds like the guitar part at the start of Wasted Years.

My thoughts:

It sounds like new Iron Maiden. I like the music, but the vocals and lyrics aren't that impressive. Lyrics, in fact, are bad in my opinion. They sound like Dio lyrics (rest in peace), and I have no idea what the song is about. I guess if there is some common theme throughout the album (besides space) then this song will make sense when I heard the whole thing, but right now I'm clueless.

On the vocals, I'm not a fan of the "So gone is the glor-ayyyyyy", "well if you need a stor-ehhhhh".....I like the chorus though.

I give it a 7/10.

If anybody's not too big a fan of it, keep in mind that so far the first song we've heard from any reunion Maiden album has not been the best on the record. I personally really like El Dorado, but yeah, it would be disappointing if nothing on the album was better than it. I don't think we have much to worry about though. I can't speak for everyone but no, I don't NEED the show in real time I can wait. But Blitzkrieg Witchcraft has mentioned several times that he was gonna post it in real time on opening night. So if he's gonna do it we may as well take advantage of it.

Also, I like the new song. But I don't see it as anything too special though. Of course I will be giving it more listens so I might change my mind.

Nobody needs the set list in real time.

I thought it'd be cool to do, so I threw it out there and a few of the folks here were on board with the idea, so why not?

Yeah, me too, haha.

By the way, someone on the IMBB posted a list of all the songs that were played in full/in part on Steve's Rockline appearance last night. It's like 13 or 14 songs total, so plus Iron Maiden, could legitimately be the songs they're planning on playing. Makes a decent amount of sense. Anyone wanna see? It's not really spoilers, just speculation.

Let's be realistic ;)

And yes, I would like to see it.

EDIT: Or was Hallowed one of the songs on the list?

Yes, it was.

Songs played in full:

Songs played in full:
El Dorado
Run to the Hills
These Colours Don't Run
The Wicker Man
Fear of the Dark

Songs played in part:
Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg
Be Quick or Be Dead
2 Minutes to Midnight
Hallowed Be Thy Name
Paschendale
No More lies
Brave New World
Number of the Beast

Add in Iron Maiden and it makes 14 songs. So IF this is legit, there would still probably be like 2 more songs. The Trooper and SOMETHING off Seventh Son seem like good bets. "Be Quick..." is the only thing here that would really surprise me if this is legit.

That's my plan. Look for a thread around 8pm CST tomorrow night.

You're my hero. Are you gonna do Dream Theater's as well?

In regards to the songs posted. Not bad. I'd swap BNW and No More Lies for Ghost of the Navigator and Rainmaker.

Easiest way to do it from a Blackberry might be Twitter, do you wanna set up a Twitter feed just for the setlist and we'll all check that in real time? I imagine navigating a message board on a phone is a giant headache.

I just set up a twitter account for just this purpose.

www.Twitter.com/chelseafcjason

I'll be posting each song there and link it in the thread here if that's cool?

And no I won't be doing a DT set list. Don't know their material well enough.

If they replaced "These Colours Don't Run" with "The Longest Day," I would be extremely pleased with that set. "Be Quick Or Be Dead" would be a nice little surprise for sure.

Calling this one now:

The next time the US sees Maiden will be either spring or fall of 2011 in full support of The Final Frontier. Typical album tour with at least 5 or 6 new songs, probably more of a minimalist approach, and playing less shows across the country as a whole. See: A Matter of life and Death tour.

Pretty sure Maiden hates all cities if they don't have like 700,000 people in them because it doesn't seem like they hit anywhere other than major cities. I'm speaking out of bitterness. Thats part of why they aren't exactly my favorite b/c of their touring. I want to see them so bad but don't have the ability to travel thousands of miles to see them. They are probably the only huge band I have never seen. I'm tryin to stay positive.

Thought new song was good. Not mind blowing or anything but still solid.

Ya, I don't get it. Rush, who is only half as popular as Maiden and has been around longer continues to play HUGE USA tours. So, since Maiden is twice as popular and hasn't been around as long, you'd think they would still play full, 30-40 city USA tours.

Yeah. Not gonna lie, I'd put them both in the top 5 of all-time rock/metal acts that have never lost an ounce of credibility or love from the core of their fanbase. I know a lot of people who, despite the difference in style, consider Rush and Maiden to be their favorite bands (or both in the top 5) - I think it's because of the immense respect for their body of work and everything it entails.

Oh - and based on what I've been hearing, don't take that list of songs I posted all that seriously. The guy hosting Rockline picked the tunes, not Steve, and there's not much faith that he has any inside info, he himself was probably just speculating.
