Fear Factory:

Mechanize
Shock
Edgecrusher
Smash/Devourer
Acres of Skin
Powershifter
Fear Campaign
Demanufacture
Self Bias Restricter
Martyr
Descent
Zero Signal
Replica

I'm going to say upfront that this show was a disappointment.

To begin, a pretty good local band, called Loculus, but nobody on the internet cares about that. The first band on the tour set up, Thy Will Be Done. And they were awful. A bunch of half-ass "brutal" riffs and breakdowns, the singer wouldn't shut the fuck up, eating at least 5 minutes of set time, and he kept like, stroking me. I'm not in to dudes so I wasn't really cool with that, and then they ended their set with the intro to Raining Blood, the least they could do is play the full song.

Next, Silent Civilian, a metalcore band. To be honest, they weren't nearly as awful as they could've been; in fact, when they weren't doing breakdowns, they had some killer riffs and solos, however forgettable. And that's the best word to describe their performance: forgettable.

Prong was boring as hell, but the guitar work was really nice and off the wall, but they didn't have the charisma to actually make it work. The vocalist wouldn't headbang or anything, and stood flat-footed the whole time, and didn't really try with his vocals. So the Fear Campaign Tour is 0/3 so far, and just the headliner remains.

The legendary Fear Factory, with the even more legendary Gene Hoglan manning the drum kit. Alas, not even The Atom Clock could save this performance. The entire band looked incredibly bored and appeared like they just wanted the tour to be over. The Mechanize songs were the only ones performed with a hint of passion, especially "Fear Campaign", but other than that, a really puny guitar tone, and bored performance just left a sour taste in my mouth.

Is it just me or have their more recent sets been shorter than the first leg of the reunion?

Not just you. Also much shorter than they used to do before the "reunion"

Oof. They were so annoying when I saw them in January. At the end of every song the frontman would just be all "FUCK YEAH WE READY TO SEE FUCKING DEVILDRIVER?!?!" a lot. At one point I just shouted "HAIL SATAN!"at them, and the frontman just looked at me and fanned the air. Pfft. The 'Raining Blood' section is the only commendable part of their set, then they go into one of their shitty songs. I just facepalmed and hoped that Goatwhore and Suffocation would take the stage faster...

I honestly don't remember much from their performance on the Devildriver tour, so it must not have been very good....lol.

The girl I know who is friends with TWBD bailed on me so I didn't go to the show. I've said it before Jaxx fukkin blows. Why add another local opener and cut time from the headlining band? They do it every time. TWBD should begin the night and get 25 min tops!

If I drove that hour and 15 min and didn't hear Christploitation I would have gone APESHIT! Kinda glad I have a free hookup to see them at Recher Theatre because we'll get a full set there. They never add shitty bands to sell more drinks either.

I actually like the newest TWBD cd but the guy does ramble way too much on stage. He was annoying as hell at Devildriver and I told him why not play 1 more song and cut that shit out. Apparently he didn't listen to my opinion.

I really like old Prong. Not sure they fit well on this bill but the Beg to Differ CD is still one of my favorite cd's. New Silent Civilian is pretty damn good so I know I would have enjoyed them. Just hard to listen to Prong after them really so I can see why Prong would bore you, especially if they played mostly newer stuff.

I guess I'm glad I didn't make it now. Recher blows Jaxx away sound-wise too.

Were they really that bad. I would think they would enjoy being back on tour since they havent toured in a few years.

My cousin was at this show last night. He called me to tell me not to bother going to the Worcester show tonight(I was considering getting tickets at the door). He said that Fear Factory was pretty good but were still a huge letdown.

They'll reunite with Raymond & Christian soon, mark my words.

The tours they did after transgression with Raymond and Christian and without Dino were awesome. I'd rather hear stuff from Archetype and Transgression than the new album, personally.

Seeing these bad reviews is making me a little worried about seeing them next saturday. I'm not surprised to hear that they may not of had much life on stage though. I felt that way the last time I saw them when they played the main stage at Gigantour 2005. I went in wanting to be impressed with them and they just gave a 'blah' performance.

The set is still all right though. My only problem is them dropping 'Resurrection' for 'Decent'. It's a good song but Resurrection is one of my favorites from them. Hopefully the show I go to won't be too bad. All That Remains is opening at the one i'm going to. I'm not sure why they're on my show but not on this one? It doesn't really matter since i'm just going for Fear Factory anyways.

I saw Fear Factory Tuesday, at the Norfolk VA show, and their set was definately longer than that....

I have to disagree on the hatred for Thy WIll Be Done. They put on a pretty solid performance. Much better than that shit silent civilian does. Santos is a prick too, he needs a fucking ego check.

Prong was incredible. They're a doom/industrial metal band, so it's not super-fast riffs and screaming vocals. It's supposed to be slower. Tommy Victor is an amazing guitarist, and he puts on a great show. If you didn't like Prong, it's because you just want fastfastfast, and don't care about the actual talent.

Agreed on Prong. Still an amazing band, one of my favorites.

As I said, I really liked the guitar work, but the guitarist was like a wooden plank, walking around like Slash doesn't make it interesting to watch. Prong had some of the best music of the evening, but a very boring stage show.

What do you expect from a dude in his late 40s/50s? Running around, jumping off of everything....?

You guys should be glad you have The Jaxx, I really miss that venue. There is nothing like it down here in Florida and you think the sound there sucks (which it doesn't really) then check out House of Blues. I saw Iced Earth at HOB and I saw them at The Jaxx with Ripper (who I'm not really even a fan of) and the show at the Jaxx was about 4 million times better. Therion at the Jaxx is still one of my favorite shows of all time. And on a more personal note, Jay is a hell of a nice guy too. Ya know why? Because he gives local bands a shot. Some of them are very good. And I never saw any reduced sets because of this. Why would they? Its not like down here in Florida where concerts need to end by a certain time.

Recher is an awful venue (still better than anything local to me down here sadly) and to me even worse than the 9:30 Club and I won't even get into how much I hate that venue and the location.

Anything BUT standing there like a statue. Headbang, put a foot on a monitor, something.

Prong guy seriously just stood there, and for someone who wasn't familiar with their music, however interesting it was, wasn't much fun to watch. I know thrash and industrial are apples & oranges, but guys like Mille Petrozza and Bobby Blitz are in their upper 40s/50s; and are really engaging and intense at Kreator/OverKill shows, whether it be headbanging or anything else. Just so we're clear, I'm not knocking Prong's music at all, but their performance.

@Darkguardian:

Jay and Jaxx are generous to give local bands slots, but Jay is an absolute asshole to deal with in person. I'm speaking from experience. Trying to get one of the local slots is an incredibly vague and frustrating process, but those are the breaks.

The only time I've ever seen setlists get cut is when the band had to get to their next venue at some specific time. Cannibal Corpse went on stage 2 hours early since they had to be in Boston and 9 the next morning, or DRI cutting a few when it hit 2AM which is the Jaxx closing time, which I think has something to do with liquor laws.

Well, Archetype IS a good record... it's just that Gene & Byron don't "fit" this band.

Recher awful? It used to be a movie theater and the acoustics and sound system in that place are top notch. Not to mention you can stand anywhere in the place and still see the stage. I didn't bag on Jaxx sound but Recher certainly blows it away and they don't add cheeseball openers to every single show to sell more drinks. Recher > Jaxx for many reasons but the sound isnt even close man. I do agree 9:30 sucks but mostly because of the area.

Slash used to walk around a lot in his GNR days...
