Valient Thorr were up first. I don't know anything that they played for sure except "Mask of Sanity," "Double Crossed," and "Tomorrow Police." They dedicated "Tomorrow Police" to Dio - "a man who lived for rock n' roll, which is how you'd ought to live" - which was nice.

Baroness were up next, and played arguably the best set of the night. I was psyched to get The Gnashing instead of War, Wisdom, & Rhyme, but I still would have liked more from Red Album and maybe even something off the EPs.
Setlist:
Bullhead's Psalm
The Sweetest Curse
Jake Leg
Isak
Ogeechee Hymnal
A Horse Called Golgotha
Swollen and Halo
The Gnashing

Between the Buried and Me really got the crowd going for the first time of the night. Their setlist was kinda weak and the sound was bad but it's BTBAM and they never disappoint. Fifth time seeing them and I guarantee a sixth.
Setlist:
Fossil Genera - A Feed From Cloud Mountain
Prequel to the Sequel
Backwards Marathon
Disease, Injury, Madness
Mordecai

Mastodon basically dominated. Brann, Troy, and Bill are a well-oiled unit, nay, an unstoppable unit. Brent...was okay. He left the stage after every Crack the Skye song and was yelling at one point, and he was fine throughout the encore set until Blood and Thunder at which point he left the stage, but still played the song from wherever he was. So, his routine didn't affect the performances or the music - he sounded great on guitar and vocals. I just hate what a diva he's become, and I really do hope he gets fired and John Dyer Baizley pulls double duty. He absolutely DOMINATES the stage with Baroness. We'll see what happens from here, this was the last night of the tour. Now prepare to be jealous because we got some shit that I don't think any other cities got:
Setlist:
Oblivion
Divinations
Quintessence
The Czar
Ghost of Karelia
Crack the Skye
The Last Baron
--
Crusher Destroyer
Crystal Skull
I Am Ahab
Capillarian Crest
Circle of Cysquatch
Aqua Dementia
Iron Tusk
March of the Fire Ants
Blood and Thunder

Great show pound for pound. :fist:

1. Did you know the guy from Baroness took Bill's place when he was sick in St. Louis?

2. Baroness is so good live, I'm thinking that I should get the Blue album ASAP and that I'd probably like it more than the Red album.

3. How sexy is that live bass solo during Disease, Injury, Madness?

4. EEEEYYYYESSS ALLLLL AROUND YOU
ENNNNNNNTERRRRR THE LABYRINTH
VIIIISIOOOONS OF THE HUNTED
BEEEEEWAAAAARE THE BIRCHMEN

1. I had heard that. That's why I'm suggesting it. :D
2. I think Red is a bit better but the Blue stuff came off SO GOOD live that I'm thinking I may need to reevaluate.
3. SO sexy.
4. :horns:

The fact that they stopped playing Ol Nessie makes the otherwise awesome 2nd set look shitty.

I heard (from Caleb and MAatt) that the pits got pretty violent. True?

Yeah, but it was REALLY good even without Nessie, so whatev.

Nah, not excessively so. Lots of movement and squeezing and jostling for position, but no violence.

It's a tough call both are great but after many listens and seeing the songs live, Red is still a bit better than Blue imho.

I think you guys got a nice Mastodon set even without Ol Nessie.
Seriously, Crusher Destroyer, I am Ahab, Iron Tusk and March of the Fire Ants does not a bad set make.

Ol Nessie is not that good to begin with.

I might just have to declare them equals. Baroness is one of the best bands around right now. :fist:

And yeah, I'm not bitching about the set, Ol'e Nessie would have been icing on the cake.

:( Sorry bro. Brent needs to go, for sure.

Ol Nessie is not that good to begin with.

Lies.

Other notes that have recently occurred to me:

-Baroness' guitarists soundchecked by playing The Trooper and Dragonaut fucking flawlessly.
-With BTBAM playing Prequel to the Sequel, I've officially seen everything off of Colors. Took me five shows, but I did it!
-One member of BTBAM was wearing a Black Dahlia Murder shirt; another was wearing a Mars Volta shirt. I think that's a pretty good summation of their sound.

I think that would be the best thing to do they both kill equally. :rocker:

Actually I was commenting on a post someone said about the set being "shitty" though I forgot to quote them.

I don't mean to bring anyone down, but that's the same set I saw in Madison on the 18th.
