I just wanted to post about this ASAP - I'm going to do a Dio virtual show in memory of the great RJD. I have no idea when the date is going to be, not right away, I want to give people a little time to mourn before we celebrate his music, but I think this will be a great thing for everyone. The setlist will span Rainbow, Sabbath, and of course his solo career. Stay tuned for info.

I doubt I'm going to have one. The Dio set I'm planning is going to be a full "evening with" event - 2 sets (separated by an intermission) and an encore.

Oh yes - and this will not be for the casual fan. Sure, I'm going to hit all the "classics", but I plan to visit almost every album of his career with at least one song. Only maybe 4 albums will be excluded. When it gets closer and I get a definite set, if anyone wants to have anything spoiled for the sake of knowing what songs (or at least off what albums) I've selected, they can PM me.

Even stuff from Elf, The Vegas Kings, & Ronnie and the Red Caps ;)

Nah, I'm keeping it strictly his "metal" career - 1975 - 2010. Rainbow, Sabbath, and Solo.

I respect that, but I think you should throw in one Elf song for good measure... It is what launched him into Rainbow and the rest of his career. Maybe it's a bit too melodramatic, but I think "Never More" would perhaps be a good closer to your show, or something like that.

Maybe, but FYI the setlist I want to do is already like 28 or 29 songs.

If the show doesn't have this, you are irrelevant! :D

Put in an elf song and a song from one of his 50's groups. if your able to find them.

For the sake of congruency I'm not putting in anything he did pre-Elf. I understand the desire for there to be stuff from his entire career there - but it still is a virtual show, and I want it to flow like one. Thus I'm calling the shots and keeping things like that.

So - I want to start probing for a time and date to do this. Are Weeknights or Weekends better for you guys? Monday nights are definitely out because I do my radio show on Monday nights, but aside from that it's pretty open, pending future Flyers playoof schedule. Sometime about 10 days from now would be ideal time-wise I think.

Bump - Still waiting on replies about what nights of the week work best for people. If the interest isn't there, I'm not going to go through the trouble.

Wednesdays are the best for me. Sundays work, too. Other than that, depends on the actual date as to if I'll be free or not. Those two days almost always free, though.

I'm definitely interested, though, no doubt.

Well, since you're the first to say anything specific, a Sunday or Wednesday will most likely be the date. I can never do Mondays, and I don't really want to spend a Friday or Saturday doing this. Two weeks from this coming Sunday (June 13th) will probably be the date I shoot for as of right now.

eh, what's a virtual show? :eyes:

eh, what's a virtual show? :eyes:

Basically:
I'll pick about 2 hours (or more in this case) of Dio's music, and arrange all the songs in a logical order of a live show. I'll create the playlist on my computer and at the given time and date, everyone gathers in a specific thread (That I will create once the date/time is set), and I dictate the playlist to everyone one song at a time, like a real show. Everyone follows along on their own, playing the songs themselves. Everyone is free to post about the tunes and how they're enjoying them, up to and including freaking out like a real show, haha. People tend to either "get it" or they don't. It's a very nerdy thing in theory, but it's fine.

Unless anything suddenly comes up, June 13th works for me. I'm usually not doing much of anything on Sunday night unless it's football season.

So is there a definite date on this? Sounds like a virtual show might be my best bet to "return" to the site.

I just wanted to give this thread a bump in case Maiden33 forgot about wanting to do it. There does seem to be a few people intrested in this. Which is better than the two that show up for when PowerMaiden does his virtual shows:D

How does Tuesday the 14th sound? I'm wary of doing it on a Sunday because I might need to keep that open. If Thursday the 16th is drastically better I'll do that. Those are your two options. I will make a decision by Friday or Saturday.

the 14th is a Monday. But you definitely mean Tuesday. Unless I am back at werk before my return to werk date, I am a definite.

Either date works. Might be a little late on the Tuesday, though, if it's that one. Either way, your call :D

I'm thinking Tuesday, June 15th @ 8pm. It'll be an evening-with show, so no opener. Dio will go on at 8. I don't have the playlist put together yet, but I'd expect the show to probably be about 2 and a half hours of music, with an intermission in the middle. So all in all we're looking at roughly 8-11pm Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday June 15th.
