This!

The rest of the MDF lineup could be mediocre, I don't really care, my dream MDF mainly consists of an ImpNaz headlining set. Everything else is obsolete.

Not that I think all those bands should be there, but when I go in 2012 I'd like to have at least a handful of "aboveground," established bands.

I'm really glad you and mastodon420 have no say in picking MDF lineups.
The reason that festival stands out to me is that it gets actually decent bands that wouldn't play shows even close to the size without it, and for the most part stays away from the mainstream crap that fills most festivals.

 Jesus, purist much? Lots of "mainstream crap" is just as unsuccessful commercially as what ends up at MDF. Converge are playing there this year, they're notably "aboveground," but would you say they don't deserve to be there because they're "too big?" I wouldn't.

And I don't like Converge so don't make it about that...I'm just saying that there's nothing wrong with having some "bigger" bands who play a style of music that suits the festival. Hell, Obituary played last year, right? And Sodom are there this year? Those bands are known to just about everyone in metal, and I think there should be a good half dozen bands of their status ever year. I still wanna see all the smaller bands, of course, but there's no reason to kick the big kids out.

The Red Chord played last year. As long as the big bands are still amazing.

Plus: Birdflesh. Every year. :fap:

Yeah but Obituary and Sodom are actually good, and classic.

Behemoth
Vader
Dark Tranquillity
Skeletonwitch
Augury
Blackguard
Nile
Enfiserum
Goatwhore
Intronaut
The Absence
The Agonist
The Black Dahlia Murder
The Faceless
Celphalic Carnage
Aborted
Genghis Tron

...not so much. At all.
I like 4 of those bands, but they are not for MDF.

Oh, and my lineup had Bolt Thrower, Autopsy, Beherit, Incantation, Destroyer 666 and Voivod so your half dozen big well known bands it's taken care of :)

Gotta admit, I know about 10% of the bands at MDF any given year, and that includes in these dream set lists. I'm going in 2012, but a lot of the thrill for me will be discovering new bands...I'm just not that well-versed in the most extreme of extreme metal. :D

I completely agree also on top of Converge this year D.R.I is playing they are pretty damn popular. I unsderstand that MDF is about underground bands but throwing a few more "well known bands" wouldn't hurt the intergity of the festival. Plus its a dream Maryland Death Fest if i was picking a death fest lineup that's how it would look.

Not trying to start a fight Wizzbang but I don't understand how any of bands I listed with the exception of The Black Dahlia Murder,The Agonist and maybe Enfiserum/Blackguard wouldn't fit.

I think there's a pretty large distance in popularity between D.R.I. and Behemoth.

MDF should be for classic bands and bands that aren't very well known to give them a chance to play a great show that you might not get to see anywhere else.

Why would you even want to see Behemoth at MDF when they'll be back 5 times within the year?

There is absolutely a large distance in popularity between Behemoth and D.R.I:lol:

I see your point MDF is about underground bands and Behemoth is clearly not an underground band.
