View Full Version : A Couple of Reasons You Might Actually Want to Consider Bonnaroo 2010...

...or if you don't, I might. Read on, paying specific attention to the items I highlighted:

Dave Matthews Band - Kings of Leon - Stevie Wonder - Jay-Z - Tenacious D - Weezer - The Flaming Lips performing Dark Side of the Moon featuring Stardeath and White Dwarfs - The Dead Weather - Damian Marley and Nas - Phoenix - Norah Jones - Michael Franti and Spearhead - John Fogerty - Regina Spektor - Jimmy Cliff - LCD Soundsystem - The Avett Brothers - Thievery Corporation - Rise Against - Tori Amos - The National - Zac Brown Band - LES CLAYPOOL - John Prine - The Black Keys - Steve Martin & the Steep Canyon Rangers - Jeff Beck - Dropkick Murphys - She & Him - Against Me! - Deadmau5 - Daryl Hall & Chromeo - Jamey Johnson - CLUTCH - Bassnectar - Kid Cudi - The Disco Biscuits - Kris Kristofferson - Medeski Martin & Wood - The xx - GWAR - Dan Deacon Ensemble - Tinariwen - Wale - Baaba Maal - THE MELVINS - The Gaslight Anthem - Miike Snow - The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Dr. Dog - They Might Be Giants - Punch Brothers featuring Chris Thile - ISIS - Blitzen Trapper - Blues Traveler - Miranda Lambert - Calexico - Gary Chardonnay - OK Go - Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue - Martin Sexton - Lotus - BARONESS - Dave Rawlings Machine - Mayer Hawthorne and the County - Japandroids - Jay Electronica - Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros - Ingrid Michaelson - The Dodos - Manchester Orchestra - The Temper Trap - Cross Canadian Ragweed - Big Sam's Funky Nation - Carolina Chocolate Drops - NEEDTOBREATHE - Tokyo Police Club - The Entrance Band - Local Natives - Brandi Carlile - Mumford & Sons - Rebelution - Diane Birch - Monte Montgomery - Julia Nunes - Fanfarlo - The Postelles - Lucero - Here We Go Magic - Hot Rize - Neon Indian - B.O.B. - More Artists to Be Announced!

Anyway, it might be interesting. I've always wanted to go to this, but never have yet. This is probably only one-half to two-thirds of the final line-up, and they haven't announced the comedic acts yet, which I hear are always good. Since my wife and I are expecting our second child in June, this probably doesn't stand a snowball's chance in Hell of happening for me this year, but it might have been interesting. Isis, Clutch, Les Claypool and Baroness at a festival like this would reallly be cool for me. Plus, many of the more famous mainstream headliners are at least mildly interesting to me as well. It's an expensive gig, though - my sister-in-law and her boyfriend have been to Bonnaroo a couple of times in the past, and between the tickets and the camping and gas money and supplies and whatnot for three days, it ain't cheap. Ah well - I felt like posting it anyways - maybe I'll just return back here from time to time and daydream for a while... :bliss:

I hear what you're saying, but I can't help but think that your bias for Wakarusa because of what you previously knew about it (not to mention where it was located) is clouding your judgment. The only band on this year's lineup I'd be interested in that isn't on Bonnaroo is Sound Tribe Sector 9, and I've seen them live already. Plus, Wakarusa doesn't have Isis, Baroness, Les Claypool, Clutch, GWAR, The Melvins, or any band even remotely like them on it.

Waka waka fucka noa :barf:

I would never in a million years want to see any of those bands at a fest like Bonnaroo. Do you understand how much of a buzzkill that would be?

also: I punch you Nat for bolding Kings of Leon and not The Flaming Lips.

Who cares if there are a million metalheads there or not? It'd be cool, sure, but it's not a prerequisite to my enjoyment of the band's set I want to see. That's just silly.

...and I *did* bold Flaming Lips, numnuts.

Fuck you guys. I'm not a really big Gwar fan but I still like going to their shows. Also, Kings of Leon is actually a decent group that happens to be popular.
But you should be ashamed that you didn't hilight John Fogerty.

Asshole.

Sometimes, but it has nothing to do with me liking GWAR or not. ;)

I've got nothing against John Fogerty (or GWAR either, for that matter). Seeing either one would be interesting, but neither would be a "must" for me.

Not that Wizzbang or The Tony is guilty of this, but sometimes you drama queens on this site like to confuse "lack of interest in" with "utter hatred of". Sheesh. :eyes:

I was just fuckin with you, because I love GWAR, and that's the only reason this lineup looked interesting to me.

um, hello????

Dave Mathews, Stevie Wonder, Jay-Z and Tenacious D all need to be highlighted too. And if you're a bad enough dude like me Weezer, They Might Be Giants and a few others too.

There's always enough cool stuff at Bonnaroo that on paper I'd want to go, but it's way to much of a hippie/hipster/dirtball drugfest that I would never actually go.

I would only go to Bonnaroo to see some of the comedians that show up (Cross, Oswalt, Galifinakis, etc)....Not a fan of being around hipsters, and certainly not in the hot, smelly, outside.

That's unfortunate, because this is not a festival of DMB clones, no matter what you might have previously thought.

Exhibit A: The headliners last year were Phish and Bruce Springsteen :barf:, but the festival as a whole was very interesting, and I wish I would have been there.

I only know two or three GWAR songs, but them at a fucking college kid hippie festival is the ROFLCOPTER of the decade.

Your comment makes me scratch my head for at least two different reasons:

You only know 2-3 GWAR songs, yet you still feel strongly enough about them that you gave me grief (admittedly, it wasn't with any significant amount of animosity, but still ;)) about not having them ranked higher than the mighty Isis and Baroness (and Clutch)?
Bonnaroo is DECIDEDLY not a college kid fest. Typical college kids can't afford it. It's mostly late-twenty-something and thirty-something folks, from what I understand...and many folks who are even older still (although you got the hippie part right, to some extent at least).

I do admit that GWAR being at this fest doesn't seem to be a really good fit, but not because of the age of the audience...more because of the style of music that they play, and what their stage show is like. I don't see the stoners getting into it much, but that's just me. (Not that Bonnaroo is all stoners, either, but there are definitely a lot of them there. :stoned:)
