Bring it on! As long as they play the Northeast (or Maryland or Virginia if ya want to, boys:bliss:) and eastern Canada I'm fucking set. And seeing as how those are guaranteed, I'm stoked out of my mind!

Oh, and PowerMaiden, I may be visiting you French Canadians on this tour. Looking very forward to it, never been out that way before!

Shit, it doesn't even matter in the end though. It's a Maiden show, although some non-garbage support would be nice.

Ahhh......................:hecho:

The support has gotten weaker each time. Really doesn't matter but still would be nice not to have to deal with that, especially since anyone who wants to be on the floor is gonna have to watch the support. At least Lauren Harris was hot, like actually hot, not just rock n roll hot.

New York is like 7 hours, so that's not that close. But yeah, DC, Baltimore, and Philly are all a reasonable distance away. Still, Norfolk is the largest (or 2nd largest, maybe San Diego is bigger) naval base in the world. So we have a shitton of 20-something young men here, pretty much the core demographic of metal music. A show here seems like it would be a good idea.

I do feel bad for the Maiden fans that don't live anywhere at all near LA/Chicago/NYC though.

Put it this way. If by some horrible mistake by God, Kittie does open up for Iron Maiden, imageine how much better Kitte will make Iron Maiden look.

It will make everyone think Iron Maiden is playing at their very best in at least a decade. Not at all saying Maiden needs it, but sometimes you need a shitty opening act to make the headliner look better. Just look at the first band on the past Nile Tour (Rose fUNOeral)

I guess this will be a "play the whole new album" tour? Should we make a thread now complaining about the setlist? Should save us some time down the road.

Odds are this will be just a warm-up/hits type of tour, maybe one new song. The album won't be out before this tour happens.

As for the NEXT tour (ie album tour), as long as it's on par with the other 3 reunion albums, I am 100% in favor of them playing the whole thing again, especially if the rest of the setlist excludes RTTH and NOTB.

edit: maybe even a Blaze era song

Not definate (or legitimate) by any means, it was something a friend of mine posted on facebook.

EDIT: Yeah my friend's reasoning behind it was that the new Eddie in the teaser pic looks like a cross between Eddie and Snaggletooth. So don't get your hopes up.

The band said they're taking the plane out for this tour. With that in mind, anyone expecting more than a half dozen North American dates is almost definitely fooling themselves. It should be noted that PowerMaiden (no offense), from what I've seen, listens to about 15 bands beside Maiden. Even though his faith, knowledge, and dedication to Maiden is unparalleled by anyone here, I don't think he's necessarily an authority on the best bands out there to open for them.

In my opinion, Saxon is the perfect band for this job. A band with the back catalog, style, and respect to appeal to every "old school" fan out there, but at the same time has all the chops and intensity to impress everyone out there. There is no better example of a band that still brings it live and in the studio as well as they did 30 years. Not to mention I don't think there is a band out there who more deserves the exposure that a support tour with Maiden would give them.

Alright, seriously you are my favorite person here I don't talk to elsewhere, but I thought you were better than playing the "age dictates musical knowledge" card. I don't wish to address this specific situation, but I meet 40-year-old guys all the time who know WAY less about metal than I do.

And to answer your "so what?" - You're right, in the big picture it does not matter, which is why I don't say anything any other time. But I just felt like saying something because Mankvill adressed him about what he felt was the best band to open for Maiden - which to me seemed weird. Sure, he's a bigger Maiden fan than anyone else here (which is saying a lot), but I'm being completely honest when I say that 95% of all of the posts of his I see deal with one of about 5 bands. I have no problem with you posting your opinion of who should open for Maiden, even though the original question was not addressed to you. I do have a problem with the first paragraph of that post. It was totally condescending and uncalled for. Surely you can see that. You were belittling his knowledge of metal based solely on what you have seen him post here.

Also, I can play the age card here because in this case his age equates to experience. He has listened to more metal and seen more shows than most of the people here. That is partially why Mankvill asked his opinion. I didn't say that age always equals more metal knowledge. ;)

Fair enough. I agree, I was a bit condescending, and I didn't really want to be, I was just saying what I felt. Sometimes it's hard for me to think someone has a wide-spanning music knowledge not posted here, because I'm just really open in that aspect. I don't have a ton of stuff I love that I don't post about around here.

My argument was actually not age/experience, because age almost always does dictate experience, but moreso an argument of age not dictating knowledge, because I have infinitely discovered that it does not quite work that way. I was constantly annoyed by my band's ex-drummer. He was twice my age but I was constantly finding that I knew twice as much about metal as he did, even though he lived through most of the music coming out, and I have merely been playing catch-up for about 7 years.

I didn't say that age always equals more metal knowledge. ;)

Honestly, Primal Fear is a much better live band than Maiden. They don't have a fraction of the theatrics, but the Primal Fear show I saw was better than every Maiden show I've ever been to except maybe one.

Seriously though, for those who haven't seen them - whatever you have to do, make it happen. Primal Fear are worth every single penny you could spend to see them. The show last September was in-fucking-credible. I don't even care if they play the same setlist this May, it'll be worth every penny again. Hoping for more Seven Seals material though. Probably paying to get the VIP tickets with early entry/meet and great as well.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Saxon open for Maiden, or Thunder, if I had to choose bands that sound like Maiden and have their influence and a similar sound and vibe, I would probably pick Blind Guardian.

Realistically though, Bodom, Amon Amarth, Mastodon, Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine, Deftones, Five Finger Death Punch and Killswitch Engage are probably the most likely bands to get the job.

Of them, the ones I would like to see are all of them but Five Finger Death Punch and Bullet For My Valentine. The ones I would choose if I had the choice would be Amon Amarth, Bodom and Mastodon.

Thats just my 2 cents on the whole thing, I have yet to see Maiden, but I have been following their tours and the band for the last 6 years. Hopefully this year I get to finally see them :D

Yeah, but this is fucking Maiden. You talk about Maiden needing to grow a pair, and you won't do the same for them.

For the record, if you're holding out for a later tour because you expect it to be much more convenient, keep in mind that this is Maiden. Odds are they will never do a tour as big as the '08 summer tour again. Also, I wouldn't be holding out for an album tour because you don't want to see hits. Odds are when they go back to new album tour format, it won't be that of A Matter of life and Death or anything close to it again.

Seriously, every time we talk about Maiden I am shocked by how much more you actually like Maiden than I do. I am honestly astounded at this decision. :(

I'm not totally ruling it out. Maybe there will be a date that I can get to that doesn't sell out by, say, early May and I can buy a crappy ticket late.

But there's just no way anyone can convince me that it's worth it to put myself under financial hardship to see a concert. I don't live at home anymore, bro. The little money I do get is instantly spent up on laundry and food and transportation and, sure, the occasional concert.

I will get another chance to see them if I don't go to this, and I have seen them twice already. The world will not cease to exist if I skip this one because of money. It would be stupid to do otherwise, in fact.

Well, your first thought is an impossibility, that's not going to happen.

I don't know what to tell you, I guess I just don't see it the same way you do. I wasn't aware you weren't going back home between college semesters, but even bearing that in mind, I just kinda figured you had thought about this before. For how much we've talked about it and how long it's been discussed, I just figured if you were just gonna say "Fuck it, I don't wanna spend the money", you would've done that before now. Just two or three days ago we were talking about this as if it was the surest thing and the world, and now... bomb drop. I just thought you had thought more about means to make it happen before - because I could pull the money out of my ass if I cared as deeply about it as I thought you did. Hell, I'm footing the bill for an $800-ish trip to Atlanta, and I still don't really know how I'm going to do it - but I am.

Dude, I don't know what you want me to say. I was always nervous I couldn't pay for it, and even said as much to you. Seriously dude, calm down - it's not that big of a deal. I'm just disappointed - not in you, but in general because I was really looking forward to doing this.

I realize money just doesn't add up sometimes, I've sacrificed shows before myself. My family's been evicted from more than one place over the years, I've struggled as much as the next guy if not more. Through a lot of high school I would go days without eating lunch in school so I could have money to go to shows, or whatever. I realize we're talking more life and death now (which it is for me too), I'm just saying - I know the give and take. I was just somewhat surprised because since we didn't exactly talk through it, it seemed to me like you went from "I might have a problem affording it" to "I'm not going" with no notice at all.

Now that I'm out of shock/awe mode:

I actually have been praying there somehow is either no NY/NJ date (not going to happen), or this tour happens at the end of the summer - thus close to ProgPower, so I can have an easy out.

Because unless there is a concrete thing standing between me and seeing Maiden, I am under personal obligation to make it happen. But I could really, really use the excess money in my pocket. This definitely assures that after Primal Fear in May, this will be the only show I go to between then and after ProgPower in September - barring earth-shattering tours or something super cheap and close.

A) Fuck Eddie Trunk.

B) I really, really doubt it. If they're using the plane that is downright silly, unless it's two nights at the same place.

I really hope they do Izod, if nowhere else. Sure, Camden makes for a much, much better show if I were able to get fanclub presale, but my friend in the fanclub decided to be a royal douche on me this year and tell me I'd have to buy my own tickets. At least if it's at Izod I can still get in the front section without presale. If I can't get good tickets, I'm probably sitting this one out. Hate to say it, but I can justify spending $80 to be right up front. I can't justify spending $50 to need my glasses to see them.

Montreal, Québec city, Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Texas, Chicago, L.A., Denver and Phoenix.

I am almost certain that we here in Canada will get more then 2 gigs ...

anyway that's my 2 cents, can't wait till tomorrow

Yeah, that Toronto gig remains the second best live set I've ever seen. If I only see them one more time before they hang it up, I'm just eternally grateful that I got to see them twice on Somewhere Back in Time including in the Air Canada Centre. That's the shit I'll tell my grandkids. "When Papaw went to Canada pretending to visit colleges to see Iron Maiden, ice cream cones cost a nickel..."

^I saw them in Holmdel,NJ. It was orgasmically orgasmic. Seeing giant, mummy Eddie in all his glory was one of the greatest things I have ever seen. Which reminds me, why the fuck did they put footage of "Iron Maiden" from a show where they didn't bring the giant Eddie on the Flight 666 DVD? That was one of the highlights of their show.

The BNW tour was the last time they played my area on their own and the last and only time i've seen them live. So, you're deffinately not alone at all in Maiden missing your area. They came here when they did Ozzfest but unfortunately I couldn't swing the money for the ticket at the time:mad: I figured they'd comeback on AMOLAD or SBIT but they didn't.

They sure don't make it easy for fans to see them. It's almost like they want you to travel to see the show. Since i've missed the last few tours and my money situation this year is finally decent for the first time in my life, i'm gonna seriously consider traveling to see them since I know they won't be coming to the Buffalo, NY area at all.

Unless it was eastern Wisconsin, it didn't.

Ozzfest used to happen all the time in Somerset, Wisconsin (about 35 minutes from me) but eventually Float-Rite Amphitheater decided 'Hey we got a great idea. You know all the rock concerts we used to have hear...FUCK THAT!!!, We're only doing country festivals now!"

BTW, I heard BIG rumors that Dream Theater is main support for this tour.

What leads me to believe it more is on Mike Portnoy's forum it said he had big DT news coming. Some people started bringing up the Iron Maiden tour and now his forum is closed down.

Let me go through the checklist of cities that will be hit b/c its usually not predictible: Prob 2 nights in LA & NY, Chicago, Dallas/Houston, Boston, Seattle, Denver, somewhere in Florida and then leave out everywhere else in between. If I'm wrong I'm big enough to admit it but its been more right than wrong in the past.

Whatever, as long as it gets reported to Blabbermouth or BraveWords it'll still be available pretty much on time.

With us now being with 30 minutes, my final statement regarding what I hope:

-Best-case scenario I am hoping for a date at Izod in East Rutherford, NJ - mostly because unless I can register for the online fan club and have it process within days to get my the presale info, it's the only way I'll have a decent shot at getting good tickets (meaning front section GA).

-If they don't play Izod, I hope they play the Susquehanna Bank Arts Center in Camden, NJ - because I don't want to go to places like the PNC Bank Arts Center which have seated front sections. If I can get in the fanclub or weasel my way into someone's presale purchase, I can probably nab GA pit for Camden like I did in '08 and wind up being front row again, which would be a god-send.

If neither of those happens - fuck me. I'll probably wind up sitting this tour out if that's the case.
