40 years ago today, the world of music was changed forever.

 Can't overestimate the importance of this date. My life would be RADICALLY different without that record, as would most of ours. Nice article on it at Invisible Oranges (http://invisibleoranges.com/2010/02/happy-40th-birthday-heavy-metal.html).

I don't wanna be a cheese-ball walking cliche or anything, but I cannot underestimate the significance this genre of music has had on my life. :D

Agreed. I like a lot of things - movies, basketball, comic books - but only heavy metal has really shaped me as a person.

I almost forgot this, and that Ozzy had a good voice at some point.

Favorite line from that Invisible Oranges article: If not for this album, "We would wear lighter-colored clothes. The world would be a darker place."

I admittedly have never listened to the album in question, but I raise my glass to Heavy metal! Happy Birthday, Old Man.

I don't mean to downplay the importance of this, but I'm not about to bow down as though Sabbath did something unbelievable that no one else could have done. I think it was a matter of time, they just happened to get there first. For that I'm willing to give them tons of respect and their place in history, but I'm not going to act like someone else might not have done the same thing two years later.

I bet if Ronnie James Dio was the singer on that album you'd be shutting the fuck up.

Fuck you dude, it has nothing to do with the fact that I don't like it (and I don't dislike it) - it's a simple theory, more or less common sense. This didn't have to become a petty debate, thanks for being an asshole.

As an aside, Type O does a badass cover of Black Sabbath

Happy birthday metal, can't imagine how different life would be without you!

Bullshit. You talk every bit of smack about Ozzy that you can.

Seriously dude, go fuck yourself. You're just butthurt that I don't like Ozzy. I won't deny that I note disapproval (which is a lot different than "talking smack") about him a lot, but it had nothing to do with that comment. Get over it.

I knew someone would get stupid over what I said, but I didn't expect it from a regular. I expected it from some n00b saying: "DURP Sabbath are amazing, fuck you dude!".

Happy Birthday Heavy Metal :D

Thank you Black Sabbath for inspiring and creating music that has changed, and saved, so many lives.

Also, Maiden33, Im not a man for throwing shit around on the internet but, I just wanna say a big FUCK YOU to you. Instead of joining in the little festivities with heavy metal, you basically shat on it. You suck.

You know, technically this album only came out on this date in England. It didn't come out in America until May. It's a good damn thing it did, because guess what came out in June?
