I kind of imagine this is a Job for a Cowboy scenario where they stop being deathcore, become death metal, but are still extremely boring and way too straightforward for most discerning fans. I might listen to a song to try to disprove that theory, but it seems mighty likely.

I haven't listened to AOAA on record, but I saw them live and they were terribad. But Erik Rutan engineered their last record, so I might give it a listen some time.

You should man they changed everything. They were pure garbage before this record I 100% agree they were bree-bree chig chug poop-laden deathcore. I didn't want anything to with this band untill a friend of mine showed me a song from the new record and I was impressed.

As a drummer, who fucking loves Opeth, the last few minutes isn't that difficult, you just have to have some good, wierd structure, coordination.

However, the slow part of the songs have the most difficult drumming though, the jazz drumming in that song is just ridiculous.

I actually thought of this in a very similar context to that. It's just stale, tepid old man rock that didn't need to be made. The Scorps had their day in the sun, but it was a solid thirty years ago at this point. This flat-out sucks.

I won't lose any sleep over it. I'm waiting to see more of a general reaction to it, but I'm honestly not much of a Scorpions fan in general, so I don't feel the need to have to hear it - unlike with Whitesnake.

Yeah, some of it is bias but I've also been subjected to some songs and I really don't think it's very good. Lightspeed melodic death metal with shredding (yawn) and whispered death vocals (double yawn). Not for me, but more power to ya. :cool:Fair enough, but what draws me to some of their songs isn't the heaviness per se, but the compelling nature of some of their riffs. Some of their stuf is just so damn catchy, and interestingly enough, it tends to be the simplest and most campy stuff that works best for me (like the bridge / chorus about two-thirds of the way through the song Serpentine was referencing). The vocals are obviously shit, but I don't think they are "supposed" to be good - judging by the lyrical content and the samples that are generously strewn throughout Dethklok's music, obviously everything they say is meant more to make you chuckle than anything else.

Dethklok's musicianship is actually quite good, and many of the riffs are pretty interesting. I'd pay to see them live (once) just for kicks, if some other good band(s) were on the bill. The Mastoklok tour would have been perfect had I been able to make it (although Dethklok co-headlining with Mastodon would have been a bit hard for me to swallow).

And yes, that Destruction record IS heavy as balls. :rocker:Cobalt, Indian, IntrOnaut, Zozobra, Brujeria and a hundred other bands would like to remind you guys what heavy really is. ;)
