I'm horrible at hearing bass in music (especially metal). I just don't know how to listen for it. When people say stuff like "the bass on this album sucks, you can't hear it" or "the bass on this album is awesome," I can't even tell.

With that being said, this is one of the only songs where I can actually hear the bass. And it's awesome :rocker::rocker:

Yeah man, when the bass is obvious/dominant, I can definitely hear it, like in Red Hot Chili Peppers for example. But most of the time it's not that obvious or dominant, but sorta buried beneath the other instruments, and I don't know how to dig for it.

I gotta admit, I think every time I listen to the track I think about it a little differently, which I can't figure out if it's a good or a bad thing. Sometimes I find myself really grooving, enjoying the whole thing - and other times I find myself nitpicking at, feeling like it's honestly not all that strong. With close to 15 listens in the books I have to say I don't have a solid opinion on this track, other than that I respect it a lot for being different for them.

Ok, well that I'll agree with. I don't run out and buy the CDs or anything. I've bought a couple songs off iTunes, if it was a song where I particularly liked their arrangement ("Somebody To Love" by Queen was especially good), but by and large their covers don't improve on or bring something new to the originals.

I obviously don't mean to claim that YOU are wrong about your lack of exposure to Journey. If that's the way it happened for you, fair enough. But I don't know a single person that shared that experience, and for as long as I've been familiar with rock music, I've known who Journey was and could easily name like 5+ songs of theirs. You don't sell over 75 million albums world-wide without being a BIG name with a lot of recognizable songs that appeal to multiple generations - not just the ones they were written for.

Regarding the last couple of pages of posts:

1. Jane Lynch is awesome.
2. I have no idea if "Glee" is any good, because I've never seen it - but I've thought about watching it because of Item #1.
3. There has never been a time when Journey wasn't either huge and currently relevant, or still relatively important, but in more of a legacy kind of way - and I ought to know, because I am an old mother fucker (relative to most of the folks on this forum, anyway :D), and I've been around ever since their heyday.

That is all.
