That song is BEAUTIFUL. Seriously, she delivers one of the most heartfelt performances on that track. Gives me butterflies most times I hear that song :bliss::light:. And I completely agree with the Dragonland statement.

Yeah, it's really amazing. It took me a while to really fall in love with the song because I admit I got to hung up on the fact that it's basically a pop ballad - but it's sooo good, such a great emotional song. I really love it now.

Slice you open like a Taun Taun
Faster than the Autobahn
Or a motorbike in Tron
Do the deed and then I'm gone

Jaba has a hissyfit
Contact Calrissian
Over a colt, the plan unfolds
No politic is legit

Back in the day
When I was a slave
Living life in the fast lane
Like in a pod race

My mean streak tweaked
I became a basket case
So this space ace
Split that place, poste haste

Took up a noble cause
Called the Clone Wars
'Cause life's not all about
Girls and cars

Getting fucked up
In fucked up bars
See, I'm not a retard
Or gay like de Barge

I'm large and in charge
With a face so scarred
A cold black heart
That's been torn apart

The Sith wish that they
Had a dick so hard
'Cause it's long long ago
In a pussy far far

Call me master, 'cause I'm faster
Than Pryor on fire
I no longer have to hot wire

I'm a hunter for hire
With no plans to retire
And all the sucka MCs
Can call me sire!

The only specific reason is the one that applies to most of his solo albums. G.E.N.E.R.I.C. The only one I've actually critically reviewed was the last one, and just

Always happy to be surprised though. And when I saw Impellitteri last year I was expecting them to be average with some good solos, because I thought Rob Rock would be pretty dull, but he was awesome and totally carried the set because in actual fact it was Chris Impellitteri who was crap.

I don't hear it. I mean he's not exactly knocking down musical barricades, but I think that album (Holy Hell) in particular is fantastic and certainly not generic enough to come under fire for it.
Not intended as a personal swipe or anything, but sometimes I have to chuckle at what you consider "generic", in comparison to some of what you really like. Rob Rock is generic but Astral Doors and the last Lion's Share album are acceptable? Those are bands I can only tolerate in small doses because I think they're really generic.

Yes, absolutely. 'The Dark Hours' wasn't spectacular. Especially compared to 'Emotional Coma'. The choice quote from my review probably being "not quite, but very, very nearly" in terms of summing up my feelings on the album. And you know I wasn't impressed with the new Astral Doors. We've had that conversation; far too far on the Dio mannerisms there.

But I really haven't heard anything worthy from Rob Rock's solo material. It's all been by-the-book from day one.

Whereas the other things he's been involved in have been much more interesting. Driver, for instance.

I'm willing to concede that his solo material isn't groundbreaking, but I don't buy into groundbreaking=good and not-ground breaking=not good. I think Rob Rock (especially Holy Hell) is pretty much the culmination of everything 'that' style can and should be.

ravenheart
05-28-2010, 05:35 PM
Oh totally, metal doesn't have to cover new ground every time to be good. If it did, there'd be approximately 12 good metal albums in existence.

But I do need to find it interesting, even if it doesn't do something new. And just being typical of a style, even if it is better at it than most of the other bands in the same style, isn't good enough. Sometimes it's just enough to have a unique vocal style even if the music is generic, but I don't find Rock's vocals to be at all unique.

Impellitteri's last singer was more interesting. I forget his name... Chris something beginning with S?

The Bard's Song: In the Forrest
Somewhere Far Beyond
Blind Guardian

Sing the words if you know them :light:

Now you all know
The bards and their songs
When hours have gone by
I'll close my eyes
In a world far away
We may meet again
But now hear my song
About the dawn of the night
Let's sing the bards' song

Tomorrow will take us away
Far from home
No one will ever know our names
But the bards' songs will remain
Tomorrow will take it away
The fear of today
It will be gone
Due to our magic songs

There's only one song
Left in my mind
Tales of a brave man
Who lived far from here
Now the bard songs are over
And it's time to leave
No one should ask you for the name
Of the one
Who tells the story

Tomorrow will take us away
Far from home
No one will ever know our names
But the bards' songs will remain
Tomorrow all will be known
And you're not alone
So don't be afraid
In the dark and cold
'Cause the bards' songs will remain
They all will remain

In my thoughts and in my dreams
They're always in my mind
These songs of hobbits, dwarfs and men
And elves
Come close your eyes
You can see them too

That's a tough one since music tastes can vary and Clutch is all over the map musically. Most people like the Blast Tyrant album and/or the Self Titled classic. After that I would go with either Robot Hive, From Beale Street to Oblivion or Elephant Riders. If you're still seeking more then it's time to check out Strange Cousins From The West, Transnational Speedway League, Slow Hole to China and Unreleased stuff, and then Pure Rock Fury.
