Meshuggah

Sure it's doctored, but it still makes most death metal sound like a joke. One of the most un-Meshuggah-y songs they've ever done. You're totally right, too. It's doctored like fuck (that's basically Tomas playing with his new toy...Drumkit from Hell), but it is a wicked sample of what death metal would sound like if a band like Meshuggah had anything to say about it. ;)

Love this song, not sure what to thing of the re-recorded guitars. I like the Catch 33 treatment on the vocals though.Sweet Satan is that song awesome live, too.

It's probably time to mention that I had to be up for work at 8am the morning after the night those two albums leaked. I was getting ready for bed around 11:30 or midnight, and decided to do one last check - and they were there. I couldn't contain my excitement so I grabbed em and put them on my mp3 player and insisted on listening to them both that night. I wound up only getting about 5 hours of sleep, but it was so worth it. I still listen to at least one of those albums (or at least a bunch of random selections from them together) every couple of days or so. It seems like they've been out for like 6 months because of hell well I know the songs, but I haven't even had them 10 weeks.

I'm not gonna lie, I think Wicked Symphony is definitely the better of the two - but Angel of Babylon is still very good and has a handful of very, very good tracks - "Stargazers", "Promised land", "Death is Just a Feeling", "Journey to Arcadia", and the title track are my favorites from that one. "Crestfallen" is my least favorite on album #1, not too crazy about "Black Wings" either, but it's not bad.

And yeah, Mercenary - specifically that album... sooo good.

I'll be sure to give it a spin sometime soon, but I have the feeling that I'm gonna agree with you that The Wicked Symphony will be the stronger of the two...just an intuition :D. Best Mercenary album hands-down in my opinion, and unfortunately I don't think they'll ever top it :(

Yeah, not to call the Norwegian stuff overrated or anything, but it's France and the US and to a lesser degree the UK that is making all the best stuff nowadays.

Agree with all of that. I'd probably still call Mindcrime my favorite album of all time, but I can't really stomach most of their post-Promised Land output anymore, and I certainly wouldn't see them live again. Glad I saw them doing Mindcrime twice, though. :fist:

Theatrically the Mindcrime shows are great - but frankly I think Queensryche suck live anymore. It sounds like a generic rock band tyring to cover their songs. There's no fire. I haven't seen them since they got ride of Mike Stone - and even though I never liked him, I don't expect that to magically fix everything. As I said - from a theatrical/entertainment point of view, they're still great performances - but sound-wise? Meh.
Hopefully EvilCheese doesn't come in here, see this, and harass me with his Ryche-fanboyism. :D

And yeah - for a band who debuted only 11 years ago - Sonata has gone down the toilet in a huge way. Frankly two bad albums in a row (and I even liked a couple of sons on Unia) isn't a HUGE problem - but I just have absolutely no hope that they're gonna turn around.

I'd still see it if it were to ever come around, but I'll take your word for it. Reminds me A LOT of Metallica. Live sound is worse than a donkeys turd, but the entertainment value is very high. Their performance is good and all, but the sound sucks hard. And as for Sonata, I'm same boat. Flag In The Ground had given me hope, cause that song is fucking sick, but after finding out it was written in the early days, a giant "FAIL" engraved itself on their file.
