Freebird or Stairway?

Stairway to Heaven. Really tough decision for me because frankly I don't think either is a bad song, but they're both in my top 5 for most overrated, overplayed, sick-to-death of songs ever.

Hmm. Free Bird probably, though I love both.

Both, a mash-up with Jay-Z doing H.O.V.A. on the vox.

:fist: Nice.

I think Stairway lends itself more to "metal" and "epic", but Free Bird is pretty much a landmark in American music, and I'm more into American shit anyhow.

Haha, I just downloaded that yesterday. Still don't have a player that will allow me to listen to it, though. My computer at home is all fucked up again, so I formatted the boot drive and started over again last night.

Even though I like Zeppelin more, I'm gonna go with Freebird on this one. The slow ballad part on Freebird is more listenable to whereas after the first few times, everything before the guitar solo on Stairway becomes boring as shit. I also don't like how Page fucking improves (read: butchers) the solo live. Doesn't he already have improv spots on Dazed & Confused and Heartbreaker? On the flipside, the dudes in Skynyrd nail that shit. And of course, Plant singlehandedly made hippies suck with "does anybody remember laughter?"

I can think of 5 different Zeppelin epics I love better than Stairway.

Stairway is overrated as hell and not very good by Zep standards, yes.

Freebird was just never ever ever a good song and you're all lame if you disagree. :D

I'm sure we all know which of these songs the members of Freedom Call would choose

So lemme break it down for yall. If you chose Stairway you may tend to value in your rock: neoclassicism, non-standard time signatures, metaphorical lyrics, tenor/falsetto vocals, a sense of mystery and fantasy. If you chose Freebird you may tend to value in your rock: the blues, strong rhythm, visceral lyrics, baritone/mid-to-lower range vocals, a sense of nature relating to both urban and rural landscapes.

While that is a very erudite analysis, I'd say I gravitate towards both of these things pretty equally outside of the simple Stairway-vs.-Freebird question.

EDIT: Eh, you're probably right. Clutch are my favorite rock band, and it's pretty clear where they come from out of those two.

This makes a lot of sense actually - I'd say it hits my musical nail on the head.

I think the worst part might be that despite all of this, they still have a few good songs. :(

I probably would. My opinion of that song improved drastically when I saw it covered by a band with a live string quartet a few months ago. It was pretty damn sweet.
