thought this was a menstruation-related product at first.

So you can do things with these apps you canít do on any other device.

yeah pretty sure my laptop can do all of those things. at the same time.

Pros:
-Price
-3G model would be handy, especially since they're offering $30 a month of unlimited data through AT&T with no contract.
-The battery life, if the claims are true, is impressive.

Cons:
-64GB isn't much, especially without a card slot
-Seems like typing on the touchscree would kill your wrists after a while.
-Most importantly: Don't need it.

Pros:
-Price

16 GB iTampon - $499. or $629 if it has Wi-Fi AND 3G.
64GB iPod Touch - $399.

It's still pretty good for the size, and considering that most people were estimating a starting price at around a grand. Besides, Apple products inevitably come down in price fairly quickly, so after a while it'll be pretty affordable.

I know, I meant the physical/screen size.

Bottom line: Some people will have a use for it, some won't. Nothing worth shitting your pants over, really. The whole Apple vs. PC thing is retarded.

Yeah, I just don't really need it. Is it cool? Sure, but so are Kindles and sex robots.

Jobs kind of shot himself in the foot by making the MacBook Pro so sleek and badass and then releasing this which essentially has the same selling points but does less.

Maybe, but it's still the same basic argument, which boils down to "I care way too much about what other people spend their money on."

Pros:

-The battery life, if the claims are true, is impressive.

-Compared to a netbook?
-Are their battery life claims ever true? They say the current iPod gets 36 hours of audio/6 hours of video.

powerslave_85
01-28-2010, 05:26 PM
Battery life claims always come with an asterisk. I know that my Macbook Pro gets pretty damn close to the advertised battery life...provided I turn the screen brightness down quite a bit. As for the iPod, mine's been on for nearly 8 hours today, and the battery's not even down a quarter.

DethMaiden
01-28-2010, 05:45 PM
Battery life is a pretty big non-issue for me. What the fuck are you doing that you're going to be away from an outlet, constantly using your Apple product, for eight fucking hours?

Long flights? I have to travel a lot for this job.

I realize long flights exist, but a) an iPod will easily last any flight length, mine lasted through 24 hours of homeward travel from Prague back to Dayton, and b) I figure you wouldn't be on your laptop on a flight the whole time, or really need to be at all.

powerslave_85

I'm not even thinking of getting one. I'm just saying that, in my experience, Apple products tend to live up to battery life claims (though usually with a caveat) and that, yes, sometimes I do need my laptop to last 8 hours.

SomewhereInTime72
01-28-2010, 06:03 PM
My ipod will last about 10 hours max.

I read on long trips to avoid problems.

My Toshiba laptop, on the other hand, is always on the brightest feature, always running Itunes and multiple tabs of Firefox, with anti-virus and anti-spyware programs, and is always plugged into the wall...so if i ever need to take it anywhere, it dies in 2 hours. Luckily, I don't ever go anywhere. :D Plus, its my first laptop = rookie mistakes.

Well, I have no experience with an iPod's battery life, but most likely, the claim is true. Battery life on anything is insane if you simply let it play. My Zune's battery would last for days if I just turned it on shuffle and left it alone completely, but if I'm skipping around, checking other stuff, playing games, it severely cuts down the battery life.

some more details from engadget

Here's the breakdown for cost on the hardware alone:
WiFi, 16GB: $499
WiFi, 32GB: $599
WiFi, 64GB: $699
3G, WiFi, 16GB: $629
3G, WiFi, 32GB: $729
3G, WiFi, 64GB: $829

"Apple also announced four accessories for the iPad. A $29 dock / stand, a $39 case, a strange camera connection kit at $29, and most surprising of all: a $69 dock with an attached physical keyboard. The last one strikes us as odd given Apple's insistence that its virtual keyboard technology is superior just about anything else you can put your hands on. It's also bizarre considering the iPad's portability. We can't see ourselves plunking this thing down for heavy sessions with this dock, but we suppose there are users who will want it."

TLDR: $teve Job$ loves your monies

This is considered a major social breakthrough, because women are always complaining about men staring at their breasts and not listening to them.
