If you guys are interested, check out my youtube page for my Metal band, Shattered.

We are a Technical/Groove Metal band (Picture Megadeth and King's X starting a band together.) The quality isn't the best. The video looks good, but the audio gets distorted at times. (it's from a fan of ours). But it does show off what we are all about.

If your interested, check it out and let me know your compliments, comments, criticism, and pure hatred for these songs.!

Thanks

Thanks bro. We hope by the time of our next show we will have better quality songs up for everyone to enjoy!

For this show we had to do the set instrumentally since we had a fallout with our Singer/Bassist at the time. Also we had ou4r buddy, Jason from the band American Gothic fill in on Bass and learn the songs in basically a day. He did an incredible job on such short notice.

Next year we have big plans if all goes well. I'm really looking forward to it!

On Tuesday we found our new singer. His name is Matt and he a phenomenal vocalist and writer. He has re-written the lyrics for our songs and made them 1000000x better.

All we need now is the right bassist. The bassist in the video was filling for us. His name is Jason and he is in the band American Gothic. He offered to learn our songs in an hour and a half before we went on stage and did a fantastic job. If it wasn't for American Gothic about to hit the studio and hit the US on tour, we would love to have him in Shattered, but there's no way we're going to hold him back from his own band.

We have 6 fully written songs:
Shipwrecked
The Walk Of Death
Eternal Burn
Souls Of The Damned
The Fury
Beyond The Fading Light

If to you it seems like it, it is because....YES. This album will be a concept album. Without spoiling anything, it will be a album about man dying and descending into Hell Where he fights to survive. Along with those songs, we have 3 more we are working on, including one I wrote myself (BTW I'm the drummer). And we'll be writing one more to complete a 10 song debut album. It will be Epic, Thrashy, Proggy and just plain METAL!!!

Thanks for checking out the videos so far and if you haven't yet, hit up our youtube and check out all 5 videos and let me know what you think!

Thanks man! In the mean time we have thought about recording a 3 song Demo EP (The Walk Of Death, The Fury, Souls Of The Damned). If we don't find a bassist by the time we start recording, my guitarist will handle bass duties. I'm really looking forward to getting these songs professionally recorded!

Shattered: Recording Session, Day 1

As I last said I last promoted my band. We gained a new singer and bassist (The bassist in the video was a fill in who offered to learn the songs in an hour and a half and go on stage with us) This will be the first recording of us as a full band!

After about two hours of setting everything up. We only had enough time to do a quick run through of 2 songs on the drums. They were rough run through but when I listened back to the takes they sounded phenomenal for the setup we got. Of course there are a couple mistakes in the tracks but for a first take it is really damn good. I've never recorded myself outside of a live setting. So hearing the playback is just awesome to me. I'm actually starting to believe that I might kickass behind the drums!

Monday the real recording begins. Once we get the songs recorded and mixed properly we'll be posting them up on our Myspace, Facebook, Youtube for all of you to enjoy.

For those interested this is my recording setup:

Drums- 1988 Pearl Export in Ferrari (AKA Neil Peart, Moving Pictures) Red

12x8 Rack Tom (Shure 57)
14x8 Vinnie Paul Signature Snare (Shure 57)
16x16 Floor Tom (Shure 57)
22x16 Bass Drum (Shure 52)
*AKG D-9000 mic for overhead*

(I have a full scale 9 piece double bass kit, but unfortunately not enough mics)

Cymbals- Various

11" Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Splash
14" Zildjian A Mastersound Hi-Hats
16" Zildjian K Custom Dark Crash
18" Zildjian A Medium-Thin Crash
18" Wuhan China *Newly fixed*
19" Sabian Vault Crash
22" Sabian Paragon Ride

*almost all of my cymbals excluding a couple splashes and Zil-Bel*

Thanks again for the support! Will report back on this Monday for Day 2

Day 2:

All drum tracks are recorded all my drum tracks. I hit a new record with how fast my double bass is playing. I don't have the official BPM, but to me it's just mind blowing how fast I pulled off my double bass. It's on the song The Walk Of Death

Guitar and Bass tracks start Wednesday!

Day 4 is done. The final guitar tracking (The Fury) is done and Bass is complete for The Fury, The Walk Of Death, and Eternal Burn.

It's went awesome man. I'm just going to be editing/mixing/mastering as much as I can by myself at home (Since I have all the musci stored on my external Harddrive) so it will be less work for everyone else. We're taking a few days off to relax and get back together on Wednesday for a full day of Band editing/mixing/mastering then we're offically done with the E.P. Then a party that weekend filled with Metalocalypse and Pizza.

Our singer came up with a really badass album cover for the E.P. once we get it finalized I'll post it up here.

It's been a while since I've updated this so I figured it was time to give a proper Shattered update.

We now have 10 fully written songs and we'll be hitting the studio in July for our first album. We cover the gamete from Technical Thrash to Prog to Power Metal, with a Damnation era Opeth Ballad as well. We debuted all of our songs at our last few shows and they all went over extremely well with the crowds. We also shoot live footage of 9 of the 10 new songs that as soon as they are ready I'll post on here.

We have a pretty badass promo picture that we've been using:

We have plenty of shows getting booked as I speak. SO things are going fucking awesome right now!

Hey guys, I probably should have done this back in March when this was finished but today we all decided that it's now time to put up our whole EP up for everyone to hear.

Just a couple side notes: First we decided on doing this because we will be recording our full length album this July so we are just treating this as a sample of what to expect. Also the quality has seemed to gone down a lot from uploading on youtube. The physical CD sounds much better then this, as some of you already have heard.

We have added 6 new songs since this EP was made back in March. We have live video of 5 of those new songs that will hopefully be made available soon. Technology sucks sometimes.

Anyways I hope you guys enjoy this 21 minute preview of IMO, Wisconsin's best Progressive Thrash Groove Metal band, SHATTERED!

Great news to everyone in the MN/WI area.

Just got announced a couple hours ago that we will be playing The Rock in Maplewood, MN June 23rd *Next Wednesday*

This will be the biggest show of my life because this is the one that Shattered will be making it's real debut at, so we need to show that we are going to kick ass!

The whole EP will be played live and we'll be playing at least 2 new songs. The one that might be making it's Mn debut is Souls Of The Damned, which to me is The Walk Of Death on Thrashin' Steroids. And My Crimson Fate, The Prog Metal song that I wrote and arranged. The best way I can describe it is a Surf Pop floor tom beat, that goes into Meshuggah choruses, into a Melodic almost Megadeth verses, into a Rush/Dream Theater middle instrumental section....That's what happens when you let the drummer (me) write a song. HAHA

Oh yeah, this show WILL BE TAPED. And I know that this show will have a better mix then the shows we have taped and not yet uploaded, because this is the same venue last year that I seen Testament, Fair To Midland and Story Of The Year, so yeah it's a badass venue.

Back to the show...

The other bands are Seared (Metalcoreish, a tad bit prog) and The Dying Vine (Death/Black Metal).

I have no idea what the ticket prices are yet, but I'm sure it will be between $5-$10. The show starts at 9pm, and we will be first. If you guys can make it out I hope you can check us out and see how good we actually are!

Every song is now up except for a brand new song we wrote last week, that we will be finishing up on Monday.

Also this coming Friday we are hitting the studio and recording our first album. Our Producer will be Steve Wolfe, singer of the legendary Minnesota Math Metal band, This Will Not End Well:

We will also be making a Making Of/History Of Shattered documentary that we'll be posing on youtube. I'd say it will be at least 7-8 parts if not more. All cool and funny shit with all the details of being in a bnad and making an album.

Until then check out the new songs and let me know what you think!

*Press Release*

Hey Guys,

I just wanted to let you guys know that everything is now set in stone and our debut album will be recorded in 3 days *This Friday* by our good friend, Steve Wolfe of the Minnesota Math Metal band, This Will Not End Well.

Tonight we mainly spent all the time revising everything about the album getting it ready for Friday. We re-ordered the tracklisting, got the final name for our new song and album title, and we finished up the entire concept. Judging from the title, you might have guessed, but yes. this concept will be going passed one album. We plan on making it a trilogy.

The album cover is being made as I speak and from what I've been told so far, it looks very epic and really fits the mood of what we want the trilogy to be about.

The FINAL tracklisting will be as follows *I'm putting the youtube links to the best sounding version of that song available*

1.) Shipwrecked http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PBWQrzS_ao
2.) The Walk Of Death http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRdBBYHlJjI
3.) Eternal Burn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6RsPz5GL1E
4.) Between Two Worlds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPENfhX2XTI
5.) Souls Of The Damned http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6T4iZy5uuQ
6.) My Crimson Fate http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cI_Okrhvn5o
7.) The Fury http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3BtCGyWnZU
8.) Airstrike http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwfqi74dOqA
9.) Requiem For All *The New song, not available on youtube yet*
10.) Beyond The Fading Light http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0xbOIz9Js4

*The Walk Of Death and Eternal Burn are from the original demo, as we have not recorded those songs since February. All others recorded last Monday night with a QUALITY camera. Much better and easier to listen to.

Without giving away the whole concept. It is about a man being sent to fight the epic battle of the ages.

This will be available first online to buy. Once we get everything sorted out then I can give more detail. After a while this will be made available on CD, but since that will be a longer process and we want these songs out ASAP, we're going online first.

As mentioned in the other thread, we will also be making a Making Of/History Of Shattered documentary featuring all of us in Shattered, our producer, Steve Wolfe, and a few other fans, friends and family. Basically telling the story from June 2009 till now of all of our struggles, highlights and all the funny random shit that happens with us every day. That will be posted on youtube once I record everything and edit it out. This may end up to be a 10 part series.

So until then, check out the youtube videos and let me know what you think! Thanks again for all the support. I know it's because of you guys that I am able to make this masterpiece to life. I hope once you hear the album, you'll feel the same way!

Well, I just got fired from my cover band and as my job as a drum teacher. and that Means Shattered is officially...shattered.

It all came down to politics in the long run, as you may have read in the Marilyn Manson thread, My guitarist is opening for him. And since August there has been a lot of tension going on. We haven't done a show since November, and we had our debut album set to be released in October but was then officially put on hold due to our guitarist not...well basically having no interest in finishing up the album to focus on his other band.

Then it came down to some verbal bitching between both of us, neither of us was right in reality, but I feel justified in my reasoning that I don't want to sit on my ass forever waiting for him to come back from touring. I wanna fucking play.

But it's over now, and in reality, I am kinda glad. I can focus all my main attention to Tears Of Ash. My bassist wants to start up a Thrash metal project, and my singer wants to make a Doom/Post Metal side project. They are both on my side of the whole issue, they hated waiting around as well. But instead of keep going under Shattered...well we know our guitarist has the rights to the name, and I'm not fond enough of it to keep it going, so it's for the best to let shattered be shattered.

I'm also going to try to find a way to teach drums. If it means driving to a student's house, them coming here, or making drum videos on youtube.

But to anyone here who liked what you heard, I really appreciate it, and the demos of the songs, and live practice videos will always be available. Hell I might even just release the shattered album, as is, for free. I mean why not?

Here's to the good times, thanks for listening!

That really sucks man but everything happens for a reason. Not sure if you saw it but the drummer of Periphery gives drum lessons over Skype and some other cam system. I'm not familiar with those things but it seems like it's the way of the future as far as music lessons go. Would be smart to get set up on that system if it's something you're really serious about.

I like the idea of the side projects. Who is to say this guitarist wouldn't blow you off again when somthing else comes up with his other band? Better to find out now...

I've often thought about that. but unless they are very local, or I become an internet sensation for drumming, the Skype thing might be hard to sell right now.

I am really confused by your last two sentences. After all that happened, I only intend on having to see him one more time before completely parting ways. The side projects are with my bassist and my singer. Not my guitarist. He's a hell of a guitarist, but after what has happened in the last 5 months, I'm ok with not playing with him again.

Yeah that is the thing. He only cares about looking out for himself. I care about the band I'm in as a whole. It takes all the guy in a band to make it work, not just one guy. I guess it's either be loyal or fuck over your friends to get to the top. :bouville:

I wish I was as good as Matt Halpern. he can do more on 3 drums then most can do on 9.

I hear ya Bro. I liked the music by both bands but I think TOA might be a little more modern sounding.

I finally delved into that Drum Channel page and WOW!

By the end of the week. I'm putting up our album for free.

I have the master tracks, I'll mix them to the best of my ability, some are first takes and the guitar solos have some sour notes to them, but damn it, I'm sick of not having these songs available.

I'll do my best to have it up by Friday!

GOOD!

I'm putting it up on soundcloud for free download. Just remember since we didn't get this mixed or mastered, or fine tuned, this will most definitely sound like a demo.
