Alright over the upcoming weeks i will be posting my favorites of the year. Starting today with album covers. I will post my entire list ranking every album of the year and other fun stuff like that.Anyways on to the album covers!!!!!!!

5. The Red Chord-Fed Through The Teeth Machine

http://www.metalinjection.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/The_Red_Chord_-_Fed_Through_the_Teeth_Machine.jpg

A very unique and interesting piece of artwork that pretty much captures the brutality that this album has to offer.

4. Despied Icon-Day Of Mourning

http://rockvideopremiery.blox.pl/resource/dicov.jpg

I don't really particually know why i loved this cover so much but something just struck be about it.

3.Baroness-Blue Record

http://theonlythingiknowforsure.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/blue_record.jpg

This is just a beatiful piece of artwork. The hand-drawn factor is a big reason that I dig this cover so much.

2.God Forbid-Earthsblood

http://i41.tinypic.com/2zgc9vm.jpg

This is pretty much everything a metal cover should be. A really fucking awesome image that just strikes as soon as you lay your eyes on it. One of the better covers i have seen in a long time.

1.Skeletonwitch-Breathing The Fire.
http://www.metalinjection.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/skeletonwitch-breathing-the-fire.jpg

I can't even write much about this. This cover is just plain bad-ass.

I am going to start the album countdown tommorow or Saturday. I am going to rate all 70 albums i have listened to this year. I am in the process of ranking them right now and it is a pretty hard task. I will be posting other assorted lists throughout the duration of my countdown as well. Stay tuned my metal brothers!

Break into chunks for sure 70 at one time would be overwhelming. I will post the first 3 albums/writeups when i get back from school.

Metal album covers are fucking silly.

mastodon421

Here is the beginning of my list which starts off with a thud at 70-68.

70. Green Day-21st Cenutry Breakdown

http:///slyoyster.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/600px-21st_century_breakdown_album_cover.jpg

Where to start with this doo-doo fest? This is seriously some of the most garbage material i have ever heard. To be honest i went in with no expectations at all and still felt i had been slapped in the face after listening to it. It's now confirmed that this band is done for after this and American Idiot. It's a shame to with all the great material they had released before this 2 album streak that has pretty much derailed them musically in my book.

69. Rose Funeral-The Resting Sonata

http://img15.nnm.ru/b/1/f/e/b/b1febb4a78afab6ab047a6ca45e8dc68_full.jpg

As I am fan of a handful of deathcore bands I went into this album with open mind. Sadly this album just reinforces why most deathcore is fucking terrible. Some of the most generic, craptastic breakdown-filled shit i have heard in a while. I mean really have no big issue with breakdowns but the ones on this album are really poorly done. Rose Funeral is one of the reasons that deathcore is one of the most dreaded words in all of metal.

68. Jay-Z-The Blueprint 3

http://blog.lib.umn.edu/hunho004/myblog/jay-z_blueprint3_cover-400x400.jpg

Another album that could have been great due to Jay-Z good track record in the past but of course he had to sellout. The main problem with this album is the lyrics which are god awful. Also the fact that is album is sickeingly mainstream even for Jay-Z makes me pretty sad. This song was made for radio hits and nothing else and to see Jay-Z go down this path is just wrong. Just like Green Day he was one of the best at what he did now that is just a distant memory.

DethMaiden

Haha, yeah. 21st Century Breakdown was probably my least favorite album of the year too.

mastodon421
12-19-2009, 06:03 AM
67. Marliyn Manson-The High End Of Low

http://verte.art.pl/muzyka/upadekantychrysta/manson.jpg

This album also seemed like a paraody album. I mean with song titles like "Arma-goddamn-Motherfuckin-geddon" and "Pretty As A Swastika" its just pathetic. Manson just tries to capture his Antichrist Superstar days and instead makes the worst album of his career.

66.The Chariot-Wars and Rumors Of War

http:///www.altpress.com/images/reviews/albums_thechariot.jpg

I've always liked this band for whatever reason but this album makes me want to reconsider. This is just a very bland and repeative album. I know The Chariot have it in them to make better music but clearly this time they struck out.

65. Pearl Jam-Backspacer

http:///www.live4ever.uk.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/pearl_jam_backspacer.jpg

All i have to say about this album is a happy Eddie Vedder makes me an unhappy Pearl jam fan.

this statement made me laugh so hard, and its so true, nice...

and greenday used to be cool, I liked american Idiot when it came out, but dookie was the first album I ever owned, and it is still their best work in my opinion.

Due to the length of this list and the fact i'm still taking about shitty albums i am just going to post the next 3 and not do write up's. The list will be coming a lot more rapidly in the next week or so due to the fact that i get out of school for winter break on Wednesday.

Anyways here are the Top 10 Live performances i have seen this year.

10. Behemoth (8/4)

To be honest i have never been more surprised about great of a performance a band gives than Behemoth. I was complete non-fan of the band untill i saw them live. They completely dominated and now I love their music!
Highlights Of The Set
1.Chant For Ezkaton 200
2.Conquer All
3.I Got Erection

9. Unearth (12/19)

A really killer set from them. I think they turned up the intensity on this performance because its their hometown. Flawless and every song was balls-out amazing.

Highlights Of The Set
1.Sanctity Of Brothers
2.Crow Killer
3.Endless

8.Mastodon (5/7)

Best performance i have seen from them. The 2nd set of their older material was the highlight.

Highlights Of The Set
1.Megalodon
2.Iron Tusk
3.Bladecatcher

7. In Flames (10/3)

First time seeing them and I was floored. Energy was off-the walls and Anders is a hillarious frontman.

Highlights Of the set
1.Only For The Weak
2.Square Nothing
3.Pinball Map

6. As I Lay Dying (4/18)

I gained an immense of respect for this band after this performance. Tim Lambesis is a fucking madman and their songs are very powerful and much better live.

Highlights Of the set

1.Confined
2.94 Hours
3.The Sound Of Truth

5.(tie) Killswitch Engage/The Black Dahlia Murder (8/4)

I really can't pick between the two. Both were fucking awesome. Many find Killswitch's live show annoying and i completely see why people think that but I found them to be beyond entertaining and they played very well.

Black Dahlia just owned the stage. Trevor Strnad was much sharper vocally this time i saw them then the first. Proably the best performance on the two side stages of Mayhem Fest this year.

Highlights Of The Set

KSE
1.End Of Heartache
2.A Bid Farewell
3.My Last Serenade

BDM
1.A Vulgar Picture
2.What A Horrible Night To Have A Curse
3.Miamsa

4.Hatebreed (12/19)

Jamey Jasta is one of the best frontmen in metal hands down and the intensity of their live show is pretty much unmatched.

Highlights Of The Set
1.Doomsayer
2.Everyone Bleeds Now
3.Destroy Everything

3.Between The Buried And Me (10/3)

Even while ill Between The Buried And Me is one of the best live bands in metal. Tommy Rogers and Blake Richardson were both fighting illness and still came out and played a better set than the 1st time I saw them. Can not wait to see them headline for the first time in January.

Highlights Of The Set
1.All Bodies
2.Selkies:The Endless Obession
3.White Walls

2.Lamb Of God(4/18)

Plain and simple Lamb Of God is an elite live band not much else to say.

Highlights Of The Set
1.Walk With Me In Hell
2.Broken Hands
3.Hourglass

1.Slayer (8/4)

I honestly can't believe i have seen these legends live. An absolutely awe-inspring moment in my metal show experience. They were so fucking awesome that words really can't describe it.

Highlights Of The Set
1.Raining Blood
2.Ghosts Of War
3.Angel Of Death

Honorable Mentions: Cannibal Corpse (12/19), Exodus (4/10),Intronaut (5/7),Kylesa (5/7), Devildriver (8/15)

+A number so gigantic no one could ever imagine of even counting to it. They suck so much, every member is douchetastic, and whichever member's name is ryan likes having youtube comment wars with people who don't like his piece of shit band. Hands down the worst fucking band I've ever had the misfortune of sitting through in concert. And I saw Audio Adrenaline at a water park...

61. Trigger The Bloodshed-The Great Depression

http://www.metalkingdom.net/album/img/d33/23682.jpg

Pretty generic shit on this one. A couple songs are pretty solid and they have some nice solos from time to time. Overall though its a pretty middle of the road death metal record.

60. The Devil Wears Prada-With Roots Above And Branches Below

http://i41.tinypic.com/ezo3sm.jpg

I aware of the hatered this band recieves(and they deserve it for the most part) and I would always defend them because they are one of my guilty pleasure bands. They do deserve some hate for this album. I don't think its awful by any means but they are some song (Louder Than Thunder,Dez Moines,Assiantant To The Regional Manager) really blow hard. Luckily there is a few tracks that are good but this album is nothing more than above average.
Standout Tracks
1.Lord Xenu
2.Danger:Wildman
3.Big Wiggly Style

59.The Mars Volta-Ocatahedron

http:///kjnb.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/octac.jpg

Far and away the biggest letdown of 2009 for me. This band made 2 of the best album's of the decade (Frances The Mute and Amputechtrue) and another very good record last year in Bedlam in Goliath. This album just didn't do for the most part for me. The songs are just no where near as good or innovative then on past records.

Standout Tracks
1.Teflon
2.Desprate Graves
3.With Twlight As My Guide

mastodon421

58. Chimaira-The Infection

http://Adf6jd2QUMg/SZb8FH_IZkI/AAAAAAAAARY/dxVtXblKkaY/s400/3274588575_37e0ea762e_o.jpg

Another letdown. For a Chimaira record the riffs are really slow and boring. When you have a guitar player like Rob Aronold you should utilize him. The vocals are also weaker than past efforts. Not a bad record by any means but a step down for sure for Chimaira.

Standout Tracks
1.On Broken Glass
2.The Dissappearing Sun
3.Frozen In Time

57. Static-X-Cult Of Static

http://img.sharedmp3.net/files/pics/932/931006/img_1_pr.jpg

Static-X has one excellent album under their belt in Wisconsin Death Trip. That was 10 years ago and they haven't really made anything worthwhile since then. I enjoyed Cannibal their previous effort. This album is really over the top and has some pretty shitty lyrics. I still found it to be somewhat enjoyable but i go to say i expected more from them.

Standout Tracks
1.Lunatic
2.Skinned
3.Terminal

56.AFI-Crash Love
http:///lamovement.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/aficrashloveofficialalb.jpg

This record actually surprised me. Wasn't expecting much from it and its actually pretty solid. Sure has a couple of duds but overall its a solid release.

Standout Tracks
1.Torch Song
2.Medicate
3.End Transmisson

mastodon421

55. Oceano-Depths

http://www.mindovermetal.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/Oceano-Depths.jpg

This band for has potential down the line. This release is a great stepping stone for them. They actually have some pretty talented dudes and I think over time this band could be quite good.

Standout Tracks
1.Emphaty For Leviathian
2.District Of Misery
3.Depths

54.CKY-Carver City
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qFi8m3njuKI/Sf3Pr-Rg94I/AAAAAAAABfg/D_rMMyjGcdw/s400/carver+city+album+cover.jpg

This is one of the catchiest albums i have heard all year plain and simple. It is a very fun and interesting record that is worth a listen if you want a catchy, fun record.

Standout Tracks
1....And She Never Returned
2.Imginary Threats
3.Plagued By Images

53.Arsonists Get All The Girls-Portals

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IBWYbAkwvbk/SlXoYsvUuaI/AAAAAAAAGs0/TuTm19QmvSI/s400/Arsonists+Get+All+The+Girls+-+Portals+(2009).jpg

One of the strangest records i have heard. This band might win the most spastic band in metal award. This albums features a wide range of vocals and crazy keyboard driven-instrumental jam-outs that will make you forget your listening to Arsonists Get All The Girls. This albums is a branching out for them and I have to say new vocalist Jared Monette has improved this band drastically. Their best record by a mile.

Standout Tracks
1.My Cup's Half Empty
2.To Playact in Static
3.Skiff For The Suits

mastodon421

52. Suicide Silence-No Time To Bleed

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IBWYbAkwvbk/Sjl9B6pBgCI/AAAAAAAAGIE/uPPvLLVtWTs/s400/Suicide+Silence+-+No+Time+To+Bleed+(2009).jpg

The only thing that really sucks about this album is the beyond stupid cover. Besides that its really not too bad. Sure Suicide Silence is still pretty much just a middle of the road deathcore band but this an improvement for them. There are actually a couple of tracks on here that are quite good. For the most part its not a bad record(with the exception of Wake Up that song blows) but it gets pretty boring after a while.

Standout Tracks
1.Smoke
2.Lifted
3.Genocide

51.Hatebreed-For The Lions

http://uppix.com/f-HATEBREED449dea2830000ab2e.jpg

This about as good as a cover album gets. Hatebreed made now really nice choices and more the most part did them justice with the exception of the fucking awful Black Flag and Bad Brains covers. Hatebreed put their flavor on these tracks and it was cool to hear them do that.

Standout Tracks
1.Shut Me Out
2.Ghosts Of War
3.Set It Off

50.GWAR-Lust In Space

http://thegormer.com/images/30in2009/21.jpg

This is truly a good album but i still felt let down. GWAR is one of the most fun bands around and there is some real gems on this record. I don't know what it is there is no glaring holes but something is missing. On a side note I need to see them live ASAP.

Standout Tracks
1.Where Is Zog?
2.Damnation Under God
3.Let Us Slay

49. Five Finger Death Punch-War Is The Answer

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/reviewpics/ff_war.jpg

Another one of the biggest letdowns of the year. I actually enjoyed Way Of The Fist a pretty good amount and had some some decently high expectations on this one. This band needs to steer away from ballads. I realize that Ivan Moody has a good voice but these ballads are just pure shit. This album does have its postives but the tracks on here just aren't as strong as their past album.

Standout Tracks
1.Dying Breed
2.Bulletproof
3.Hard To See

48.Dying Fetus-Descend Into Depravity

http://raiseyerfists.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/descend-into-depravity1.jpg

This album is defintley brutal and the instruments are top-notch. That being said the vocals get grating after a while on this record and I think Dying Fetus can make much better material than this they have in the past and i'm sure they will again. Defintley not their best work.

Standout Tracks
1.Shephard's Commandment
2.Concived Into Enslavement
3.Your Treachary Will Die With You

47.Atmosphere-Leak At Will
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_q6M35GASTXQ/SlFjUAEAr1I/AAAAAAAAAFA/beCvLNanCQw/s400/Atmosphere+_+Leak+At+Will+(2009).jpg

Atmosphere hands down is one of the best rap artists around right now. His beats are excellent and his lyrics are great as well. This album is only an EP and it is pretty good but it doesn't really capture that Atmosphere vibe. The beats are solid but not spectacular and the lyrics aren't as good as usual either.

Standout Tracks
1.Feelgood Hit Of The Summer Part 2
2.Millie Fell Off The Fire Escape
3.The Ropes

Very entertaining thread. I really dug thaat Lemons/Gold cd Atmosphere put out last year. They make Jay-Z look like a total sell-out assclown.

And also I must have missed it but Dude should win an Award for funniest post of the year for the quote above. I snarfed mountain dew all over my keyboard after reading that.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_xtiNXpRJAnY/SvmINwXDuDI/AAAAAAAADU4/vrvjQjk6UjQ/s400/SLAYER-WORLD+PAINTED+BLOOD.jpg

Another record that could been so much better. Don't get me wrong there is some strong stuff on here (The title track and Unit 731 are best Slayer songs in quite some time) but for the most part its pretty middle of the road especially for a Slayer record. This record also has 3 or 4 laughable duds. I really expected more from this record and didn't really get it.

Standout Tracks
1.Unit 731
2.World Painted Blood
3.Psychopathy Red

45.Cannibal Corpse-Evisceration Plague

http://img15.nnm.ru/5/8/e/f/7/58ef7b47ecc20c6ba2de3123fbf9a588_full.jpg

Damn i can't believe this is Corpse's ninth record. When I got into them about 2 years ago I was really surprised that i hadn't known about a band with that extensive/fucking awesome of a discography prior to when I did. Back on track This is pretty much just another Cannibal Corpse record. There are a couple of flat-out awesome tracks but sadly most of the tracks are only pretty good. I think is for sure a downgrade from 2006's Kill. Cannibal has another masterpiece in them I know it and I can't wait till they release it.

Standout Tracks
1.Evisceration Plague
2.Shatter Their Bones
3.Scalding Hail

and for what it is sure to be one of the 2 albums that i get inhuman flaming for..........

44. A Day To Remember-Homesick

http://israbox.com/uploads/posts/2009-02/1233446383_adtrge6.jpg

This is for sure my guilty pleasure album of the year. I can not give anyone a logical explaination for why i enjoy this band. I hate Post-Hardcore for the most part. This band just makes damn catchy music and this album is pretty enjoyable. (I completely expect/deserve verbal harassment for placing this above Slayer and Cannibal Corpse)

Standout Tracks
1.I'm Made Of Wax Larry What Are You Made Of?
2.Welcome To The Family
3.NJ Legion Iced Tea

43. Suffocation-Blood Oath

http://www.qitix.com/web/images/photonews/full/suffocation-blood-oath.jpg

This record is pretty damn good. It's got some nice riffs and the usual brutal as hell vocals from madman vocalist Frank Mullen. The problem is(pretty much the same with Cannibal Corpse) is that they could be making much better records. I still love Suffocation and this is not an effort to be ashamed of but they could do better.

Standout Tracks
1.Come Hell Or High Priest
2.Blood Oath
3.Dismal Dream

42. 3 Inches Of Blood-Here Waits Thy Doom

http://engineno9.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/3-inches-of-blood-here-waits-thy-doom.jpg

3 Inches Of Blood made one of 2007's finest records with Fire Up The Blades. Their earlier material such as Advance and Vanquish also kicks ass. This record while good is no where near as good as their past efforts. This record still has it's fun riffs and over the top yet awesome vocals. One of the reasons I think this record lacks is Jamie Hopper who blew out his voice. It's a damn shame because he was part of what made this band one of the elite. Hope they can prove me wrong with their next record. Another issue is that a few of these songs are too long and can drag. Other than that good record.

Standout Tracks
1.Rock In Hell
2.Battles And Brotherhood
3.Call Of The Hammer

41.Born Of Osiris-A Higher Place

http://www.waytooloud.com/wp-content/themes/waytooloud/images/people/Born%20of%20Osiris%20-%20A%20Higher%20Place%201

This record is pretty impressive. Their debut The New Reign was a decent deathcore album. A Higher Place shows this band can play their instruments damn well and everything is a whole lot better this go round. This is a band to watch for years to come. I think this band might be something special

Standout Tracks
1.Now Arise
2.Live Like I'm Real

Yeah I'm with ya dude but rating those last few cd's over Slayer is pure Blasphemy. The 3 Slayer songs you listed are better than 3 of the last 4 total cd's to me. 3IOB might be the most boring cd I heard all year. Seriously Judas Priest circa 1978 called and want their sound back. hahaha

40.Augury-Framenting Evidence

http://elbarametal.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/augury.jpg

A very good band from Canada that I just found about a couple of months ago. Really talented group of dudes who make some really solid prog death metal. The only downside to this record is that is that gets a little bit boring in places but for the most part good shit.

Standout Tracks
1.Jupiter To Ignite
2.Orphans Of Living
3.Skyless

39.Despised Icon-Day Of Mourning

http://moshpit.ru/images/news/Despised_Icon_-_Day_Of_Mourning.jpg

Another heavy as shit album from Canadian hardcore-influnced tech-death-metalers/creators of deathcore. This band hasn't made anything not worth listening to and this continues the streak. They make good use of their two vocalists on this effort and all around this album makes a pretty good punch.

Standout Tracks
1.Made Of Glass
2.Sleepless
3.MVP

37.The Crimson Armada-Guardians

http://www.cmdistro.com/images/xlarge/31278.jpg

This is another band that I think will/should explode. I found about them at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival this year and i was very impressed by their performance. Talked to them later on that day asked them about their records and they told me about their debut record was coming out on Metal Blade in July. I downloaded and i was pretty impressed. Sure this band has some breakdowns but they aren't overdone and they are done well. The vocalist is solid and the lyrics are original. Worth checking out if you don't mind some breakdowns.

Standout Tracks
1.A Filthy Addiction
2.The Sound,The Flood,The Hour
3.Guardians

36.Lacuna Coil-Shallow Life

http://www.nocturnaleuphony.com/lacunacoil/Shallow_Life.jpg

This is proably one of the most disputed records of the year. Personally I liked this record quite a bit. Sure it's not as heavy as previous Lacuna Coil albums but I thought it was a nice change of pace for them. Cristina Scabbia's vocals shine here. She has a gorgeous voice and it is showcased on here quite well. Defintely not another masterpiece like Karmacode but a pretty killer release none the less.

Standout Tracks
1.Not Enough
2.I Survive
3.Spellbound

35.Eminem-Relapse

http://blog.newsok.com/staticblog/files/2009/05/eminem-relapse.jpg

Eminem could have done better. After such a hiatus and recovery from drug addiction i kind of expected another masterpiece from him. Don't get me wrong this album is still well-done but a couple things need to be worked on. The main reason this isn't masterpiece is their is too many over-the top violent lyrics. Some of them are kind of laughable ICP-style lyrics and takes away from the vibe of the album. Another problem is the stupid fucking accent he raps in on some of the songs. It works fine on certain tracks but on others it makes you want put your head through a fucking wall. On the postive they are a good amount of gems on this album and Dr.Dre did a fantastic job with the beats. I hope Relapse 2 is better.

Standout Tracks
1.Underground
2.Old Time's Sake
3.My Mom

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_bI5-8YnkkFA/Slx9Orjt-gI/AAAAAAAAAbc/JdASRYYYrPU/s400/00-august_burns_red-constellations-2009-front.jpg

One of the most pleasant surprises of the whole year. A big step up from their previous material. Everyone in the band stepped their game up on this record. This records got some really solid riffs and the guitar work overall is well-done. Another this record has is this the best guest apperance of the year with Tommy Rogers from Between The Buried and Me doing an astonishing clean vocal line on Indonesia. Best album August Burns Red has ever made for sure.

Standout Tracks
1.Indonesia
2.Ocean Of Apathy
3.Merdian

33.Warbringer-Waking Into Nightmares

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_220vz8JKmAQ/Sdi-pwIUWlI/AAAAAAAAEFU/mZFB1fkzBLY/s400/cvr.jpg

This is another band I think will explode in the coming years. Their slick thrash for sure will launch them into the big time. Defintely one of the best new thrash band out there. No shortage of awesome solos on this record. Also gotta say their drummer is really damn good. Great effort from Warbringer and I can't wait to see what they churn out next.

Standout Tracks
1.Jackal
2.Severed Reality
3.Scorched Earth

32.Cattle Decaptation-The Harvest Floor

http://memorywavetransmission.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/cattledecap.jpg

I got to say I don't think there was a brutal record released this year. Cattle Decpatation hits hard and fast throughout the duration of this record. Travis Ryan is one of the most unique vocalists in all of metal and I love his style and approach. Another band that I think made their best album this year. If you like deathgrind Cattle Decaptation is one of the leaders of the genre and The Harvest Floor is one of the essential albums

Standout Tracks
1.Regret And The Grave

31.Dream Theater-Black Clouds and Silver Linings

http://img.hipersonica.com/2009/03/black-clouds-silver-linings.jpg

Dream Theater was coming off their weakest effort with 2007's Systematic Chaos. Thankfully they are back to form with the great Black Clouds And Silver Linings. This album is easily the best they have done since the 90's. The melodies are awesome and with the exception of The Count Of Tuscany which kinds of drags this the epic songs are awesome.

Standout Tracks
1.A Nightmare To Remember
2.The Shattered Fortress
3.A Rite of Passage

30. Devildriver-Pray For Villans

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/newreleases/dynimages/317_410x410.jpg

Devildriver hasn't let me down yet. This record took more time to grow on me than past release of theirs but that is fine. Devildriver took some risks on this record mainly with the vocals and a couple of slower tempo tracks and i have to say it payed off for the most part. Also they showcased some of their melodic death metal influnces on this record which is always good to see. They are one of the best groove metal bands around and it will proably stay that way for a long time.

Standout Tracks
1.Forgiveness Is A Six Gun
2.I've Been Sober
3.Another Night In London

29. Gaza-He Is Never Coming Back

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_SV9RU5STp7Q/SvfyiM0WwCI/AAAAAAAAAVI/rDIbei94NJ8/s400/gaz.jpg

This band is fantastic. They make some of the most complex/awesome hardcore i have heard in a long time. After their last album I Dont Care Where I Go When I die which was also excellent they kind of disappeared for a while. This album shows Gaza has come thundering back with a great album and they have evolved as a band. A truly great that is really worth your time.

Standout Tracks
1.The Kicking Legs
2.Tombless
3.Windowless House

28. Muse-The Resistence

http://joerayw.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/muse-the-resistance-album-artwork.jpg

After their last album the masterpiece known as Black Holes and Revelations Muse had some big shoes to fill. They did a damn good job on this one but clearly it is not as good as Black Holes. The trademark Muse sound is on here. Epic rhythm sections, stirring vocals and really complex alt-rock. Muse is the best mainstream alt-rock band by far and if they continue like this no one will dethrone them for a long time

Standout Tracks
1.Untied States Of Eurasia
2.Uprising
3.Unguding Light

27.Winds Of Plague-The Great Stone War

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_7gyqZF2c3nU/SoY4NOzmP_I/AAAAAAAABC4/Xo8mMlNOhCc/s400/WoP_-_Great_Stone_War_Album_Cover.jpg

Winds Of Plague is by far the best deathcore band around. I find them to be unique and they are very experimental in their music. The Great Stone War is the finest deathcore achievement ever. It's pretty much the "Master Of Puppets" or the "Master Of Reality of this genre (I know this claim to a lot of metalheads is like winning a dyslexic spelling bee). This a really symphonic, great record that is coming from one of the handful of good deathcore bands. I tip my hat to Winds Of Plague for daring to be original in a genre that is mainly full of boring, average bands.

Standout Tracks
1.Creed Of Tyrants
2.Soliders Of Doomsday
3.Our Requiem

26.Darkest Hour-The Eternal Return

http://www.rocknationradio.com/samHTMweb/rnr2/pictures/Darkest-Hour-The-Eternal-Return.jpg

Darkest Hour is in the prime of their career right now. They pretty much have their style of a music down to a science now and they have really hit their stride at the point in time in their career. This album has a collection of awesome riffs, melodic solos and just plain kick-ass songs. A very underated band that deserves more attention.

Standout Tracks

2.Blessed Infection
3.Into The Grey

http://iliketoridemybicycle.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/spin029_kylesa400.jpg

2009 has been a great for metal as a whole but Sludge Metal is gaving an outstanding year. I can thank me seeing Kylesa open for Mastodon for me getting into them. The day after the Mastodon show and I went downloaded this album and it is a stellar release. One of the main reasons this band is so great is the songwriting and their creative use of two drummers. It for sure diversifies them from thee rest of the Sludge pack. Really interesting album and heavy as shit.

Standout Tracks
1.Scapegoat
2.Running Red
3.Said and Done

24.Ensiferum-From Afar

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XYoBUHcvTFI/SqP1-xrYNJI/AAAAAAAACd4/A9wTuPRZrL0/s400/31619.jpg

If i were to sum this album in one word that word would be EPIC. These folky viking bastards make of the most unique, catchy and epic metal around. I love the death metal influnces they have as well. Other Folk Metal bands should take notes because Enisferum has mastered the craft.

Standout Tracks
1.By The Dividing Stream
2.Heathen Throne
3.Smoking Ruins

23.Muncipial Waste-Massive Agressive

http://www.rocknationradio.com/samHTMweb/rnr2/pictures/Municipal-Waste-Massive-Agressive.jpg

Ah the joys Of Muncipial Waste. This was defintley of one of my most anticipated albums of the year. This record has a more-pissed off approach then 2007's The Art Of Partying. I like the approach The Waste took on this one. Did i find to be as good as The Art Of Partying hell no but there is still the awesome, quick, furious rampage of Muncipal Waste and their blend of punk and thrash is fucking awesome and they remain one of my favorite bands.

http://www.metallibrary.ru/bands/discographies/images/vader/pictures/09_necropolis.jpg

Polish deathlords Vader never fail to impress. Necropolis is another ferocious ass-kicker of an album that grabs you by the throat and never lets go. Even well into their 2nd decade Vader continues to be at the peak of the death metal heap. Pretty much the best thing to ever come from Poland.

Standout Tracks
1.Dark Heart
2.Rise Of The Undead

Bottom Line:Best Rammstien album since Mutter.

Rammstien is back with a fury. Making some of the most memorable music they have made in years. Now I just need a US tour in 2010 and i will the happiest kid in the world.

Standout Tracks

2.B********
3.Ich tur dir weh

20.Converge-Axe To Fall

http://www.covershut.com/covers/Converge-Axe-To-Fall-Front-Cover-24950.jpg

Converge has been inovating hardcore for a very long time. Jane Doe is considered to be one of the genre's finest achievements and the album that Converge will always be remembered by. Axe To Fall is arguabley the best thing they have done since. A balls to the wall adrenaline rush of an album. Converge experiments so much on this album with different tempos and vocal approaches. It's great to see yet another evolution from these guys. This album will defintley split metal fans as does just about all of Converge's material. Personally I think this is a fantastic record and one of 09's finest.

19.Killswitch Engage-Killswitch Engage

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/newreleases/dynimages/315_410x410.jpg

Plain and simple I love Killswitch Engage that is proably why this album is so high. I thought this album was pretty great its proably their weakest album yet but I still loved it. Howard Jones's vocal performance is dazziling on this album and it makes some songs that would be just ok elevate to great.

Standout Tracks
1.Never Again
2.Reckoning
3.The Forgotten

18.Napalm Death-Time Waits For No Slave

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_h8a2DmEdrtU/STwp8by69hI/AAAAAAAABoM/xcPHj26NT_Y/s400/Time+Waits+For+No+Slave.jpg

Grindcore legends Napalm Death's new one Time Waits For No Slave was the 1st record I heard all year. Let's just say it was a great omen for what this year would be. Most bands when they are Napalm Death's tend to water down their music and kind of half ass it. Napalm Death doesn't do that in the slightest they make one of their finest records they have ever made. An absolute face-melter of a record.

Standout Tracks
1.Life And Limb
2.Larceny Of The Heart
3.Downbeat Clique

17.Job For A Cowboy-Ruination

http://mp3passion.net/uploads/posts/1246359520_job_for_a_cowboy__ruination_2009.jpg

I remember not long after i joined this site in April i didn't make too many friends on here with my high praise of this record. Personally I thought before this record came out Job For A Cowboy was a very average band that didn't really have any special about them. That all changed with Ruination. This album is absolutely insane. The biggest improvement is the guitar work. New guitarist Al Glassman can actually play! Johnny Davy has also stepped his vocals up a lot. The song structures are more complex and everything about this band as improved drasticly. This is hands down the biggest surprise of the year and I can now say i am fan of a Job For A Cowboy.

Shadows Fall really came out of nowhere with this one. This an extremely impressive release from them. These are seriously some of the best songs they have ever made. Pretty much every track is great and this is the tightest and best music Shadows Fall has ever made.

Standout Tracks
1.My Demise
2.King Of Nothing
3.A Public Execution

15.Nile-Those Whom The Gods Detest

http://zoinks.tv/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Nile-Those-Whom-The-Gods-Detest.jpg

This album is death metal bliss. When I was first getting into metal about 4 years ago Nile was recommended to be my cousin. I thank him for getting me into one of the finest death metal acts around. Karl Sanders just blows my mind. How he can play that damn fast and precise is just beyond me. He is a fucking robot I am convinced. Anyways few bands make death metal this awesome. A much effort than 2007's Ithyphallic and one of the finest achievements of the great year of 2009.

Standout Tracks
1.Kafir!
2.Premitting The Nobel Dead to Descend The Underworld
3.Utterances Of The Crawling Dead

14.Hatebreed-Hatebreed

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_fU7D7e1tS1U/SxncubSSlGI/AAAAAAAADAo/VLhq5hWa3b0/s400/Hatebreed.jpg

Hatebreed is back and just about better than ever. This is the best work they done since The Rise Of Brutality. Jamey Jasta is truly an inspiration to me. His lyrics are absolutely amazing and are the main reason this album is so great. Also the return of founding guitarist Wayne Lozinak has added a lot of depth to this album. The most layered and complex Hatebreed disc yet.

Standout Tracks
1.Between Hell And A Heartbeat
2.In Ashes They Shall Reap
3.Become The Fuse

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_tmBHETut_7o/Su9Z8_XbD-I/AAAAAAAAAf4/QNHbk6fwwaA/s400/Fed+Through+The+Teeth+Machine.jpg

The Red Chord is one awesome band. This tech-death/grindcore powerhouse has churned out another gem with Fed Through The Teeth Machine. A nice touch to the madness on this record is a little bit of a prog edge. Mike "Gunface" McKenzie awesome lighting fast riffs and great techinical solos and the frantic vocal bark of Guy Koyzowk (i defintley spelled this wrong) are at their finest since 2005's masterpiece Clients. The Red Chord are the real baddest dudes in Revere.

Standout Tracks
1.Hymns And Crippled Anthems
2.Hour Of Rats
3.Ingest The Ash

12.Baroness-Blue Record

http://zoinks.tv/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/baroness_blue_record.jpg

I was for sure a late bloomer on Baroness. When I first heard The Red Album in early 2008 after a slew of high praise for it I wasn't a really into them at first. I gave it a few more listens then it grew on me and I ended up loving it. I was pretty fucking excited for the follow-up Blue Record. I wasn't let down in the least bit. This might be the most beatiful record. The melodies on songs such as "The Sweetest Curse" and "Swollen and Halo" are absolutely gorgeous. This album brightens up my day every time I hear. One of the most edgy, innovative records I have heard in a while.

Also John Baisley does amazing artwork.

Standout Tracks
1.The Sweetest Curse
2.Jake Leg
3.Swollen And Halo

11.Lazarus A.D-The Onslaught

Best debut of the year. I was absolutely floored by this band. I think they are the best thrash band around right now. Fans of bands like Warbringer and Toxic Holocaust need to go download this record ASAP.

Standout Tracks
1.Last Breath
2.Thou Shall Not Fear
3.Absolute Power

10.Alice In Chains-Black Gives Way To Blue

http://andersonlibrary.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/alice-in-chains-black-gives-way-to-blue.jpg

My god this record is fantastic. My hopes were not very high at first. William DuVall had some big shoes to fill taking over vocal duties from the late Layne Staley. DuVall does a great job. He doesn't try to copy Staley and his vocal style is truly organic and fantastic. The song on here pack some serious punch. The heavier tracks are some of the best heavy stuff have ever done and the slower stuff is really heartfelt and meaningful. Overall just a fucking special record and Layne Staley would be very proud.

Standout Tracks
1.A Looking In View
2.Acid Bubble
3.Private Hell

9.Skeletonwitch-Breathing The Fire

http://www.hellbound.ca/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/skeletonwitch_breathingtheFire2009_400x426c.jpg

Skeletonwitch is just brutal as all hell. Their infectious blackened thrash is equal parts catchy, brutal and bad-ass. Following up a mesmerizing album like 2007's Beyond The Permafrost can be hard but Skeletonwitch came very close. The riffs and solos are still brillant but it's a little bit weaker than Permafrost. Lastly much respect to Chance Garnette he has one of the most unique screams in metal and his low growls are jaw-dropping.

Standout Tracks
1.Gorge Upon My Soul
2.Submit To The Suffering
3.Where The Light Has Failed

8.Goatwhore-Carving Out The Eyes Of God

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_d99a8PyOVr8/Sj79rLX2EGI/AAAAAAAAAv0/dAyD_X0qGFc/s400/goat+whore.jpg

Highly underated band. Blackened death metal hasn't had this great of a band emerge in a long time. The have mastered the fusion of death, thrash and black metal. If you give the vocals some time to sink in then you will proably love one of extreme metal's finest records of the year.

Standout Tracks
1.In Legions,I Am Wars Of Wrath
2.Shadows Of A Rising Knife
3.Razor Flesh Devoured

7.God Forbid-Earthsblood

http://www.metalsucks.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/earthsblood.jpg

The 1st 3 months of 2009 had some really strong albums. God Forbid's most recent effort Earthsblood was one of the many amazing records to come out during that span. After a 4 year abscene it was great to hear some nome material from one of metalcore's finest act. The thing that makes God Forbid so great is that they may be metalcore but damn do they push the boundaries of metal. There is crazy-ass technical solos, unique clean vocals, epic bulid ups and every once in a while a well-timed breakdown. These guys are the real deal and this band should me a lot more popular in the metalcore genre than they are.

Standout Tracks
1.Walk Alone
2.Bat The Angels
3.Empire Of The Gun

6.Doom-Born Like This

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Pix0OpbWbN8/SkpmCbJHWGI/AAAAAAAAAW0/plcPlSteTL0/s400/doom-born-like-this-cover.jpg

This album is what real hip hop sounds like. Doom (formerly known as MF Doom) is one of the finest rappers ever. His lyrics are rather strange sometimes but they are refreshing, witty and very intelligent. His beats and samples are out of the world zany but also fucking nasty. Doom is one of the rappers that deserves sucess instead the dime-a-dozen copycat rap out ho's and nothing else rappers that are taking up a good majority of the rap game right now. Doom's crafty lyrics and original beats is what this album delivers. All of you guys need to check this album out if you are into rap/hip hop because this is just a plain dynamite album.

Standout Tracks
1.Batty Boyz
2.Lightworks
3.Cellz

5.Megadeth-Endgame

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zOlvNool758/SnNqIyI4QsI/AAAAAAAABHk/C9CfTXjRmQU/s400/Megadeth_Endgame_Album_Cover-Caratula_(2009)_001.jpg

Best Megadeth album since Countdown To Extinction. Dave Mustaine has the right to brag about this album all he wants. They stepped up their game so much with this record. Sure the lyrics are a little corny but the riffs and just the songs in general are scary-close to Megadeth's heyday of the 80's/early 90's. I liked Death Magnetic a pretty good amount and World Painted Blood was a decent record but Megadeth has just blown their peers out of the water with Endgame.

Standout Tracks
1.This Day We Fight!
2.Endgame
3.Headcrusher

16.Shadows Fall-Retribution

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_cS056lFRwew/SvliymWtERI/AAAAAAAACgs/235NKUWjbzo/s400/Cover.jpg

14.Hatebreed-Hatebreed

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_fU7D7e1tS1U/SxncubSSlGI/AAAAAAAADAo/VLhq5hWa3b0/s400/Hatebreed.jpg

Hatebreed is back and just about better than ever. This is the best work they done since The Rise Of Brutality. Jamey Jasta is truly an inspiration to me. His lyrics are absolutely amazing and are the main reason this album is so great. Also the return of founding guitarist Wayne Lozinak has added a lot of depth to this album. The most layered and complex Hatebreed disc yet.

Standout Tracks
1.Between Hell And A Heartbeat
2.In Ashes They Shall Reap
3.Become The Fuse

I wonder why some people are so surprised that Shadows Fall came out with such a good album? They've written great albums since they started so I wasn't the least bit surprised when Retribution turned out as good as it is. They hardly "came out of nowhere" with this one as far as i'm conserned.

The new Hatebreed is taking over The Rise Of Brutality as my favorite release from them. I feel the same about this as you do about Shadows Fall's new one. I thought the new Hatebreed would be good but I wasn't expecting it to be this good. I'm still wondering why they aren't doing more off this album live though? You would think they would be really proud of this one and wanna play more of it.

4.Lamb Of God-Wrath

http://wiwinhartanto.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/lambofgod_wrath-cover.jpg

The most bitched about band on the forum returns with a BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All kidding aside this album is fucking great. Randy Blythe writes some amazing hooks and his lyrics are really, really good. The reason I find Lamb Of God to be an awesome band is because they make memorable songs. Tracks such as Broken Hands and Grace are gems that you will remember due to their awesome hooks, killer riffs and sweet solos. Lamb Of God might me as popular as ever but they are not selling out or slowing down.

(This review is not from a redneck or a kid that think he is tough and I will not call you names if you don't agree with my stance:D)

Standout Tracks
1.Broken Hands
2.Grace
3.Reclamation

3. The Black Dahlia Murder-Deflorate

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_dVNduPztLb0/SsEavwP9FkI/AAAAAAAAA7E/17NN9PaGGOk/s400/BDM_Deflorate.jpg

This band really can't stop topping themselves. Every album put out prior this just kept getting better and better and Deflorate is now the best BDM record. New axeman Ryan Knight adds so much to this band. His high flying wide variety of solos is a whole new bag of tricks for The Black Dahila Murder to expriment with. Trevor Strand once again proves why he is one of metal's best vocalists with his trademark perfectly executed shrieks and growls.
(Warning: OUTRAEGOUS CLAIM AHEAD)

IMO The Black Dahlia Murder is the best American death metal band since Suffocation. They are pushing legend status. In most years this would be album of the year but sadly this year it just couldn't be.

Standout Tracks
1.Black Valor
2.I Will Return
3.Denounced,Disgraced

2.Mastodon-Crack The Skye

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6BuV9u4bfvM/SX7xoH33euI/AAAAAAAAAVk/ji_ex7HMtgQ/s400/mastodon.jpg

It is the makings of a truly special band when they make an album that somewhat let me down and still is number 2 in a super competive year. This album is still fucking amazing don't get we wrong. The guitar work from Brent Hinds is the higlight here. The riff in the mid-section to The Czar is the best riff of the year and the solo near the end could be one of the best of the year as well. The only way this record could have been even better was if Troy Sanders did more of the vocals. IMO he is a better vocalist than Hinds and I think these tracks could be even better with him doing most of the vocals. Regardless a truly astonishing piece of art from modern metal's best band.

Standout Tracks
1.Oblivion
2.Ghost Of Karelia
3.The Czar

1.Between The Buried And Me-The Great Misdirect

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_S-iNGpAPtuw/Svutddzx8bI/AAAAAAAAADc/Dcce7DtXZxg/s400/between+the+buried+and+me+-+the+great+misdirect.jpg

Every year there is just that one album that blows away you away every time you listen to it. Between The Buried and Me has crafted one of the finest metal albums of the decade with The Great Misdirect. From the frantic tempo changes to the jaw-dropping instrument and the soaring/gorgeous acoustic sections you proably find a more perfect blend of these things. Tommy Rogers is one of the best vocalists in the history of metal. His vocals make every song so goddamn powerful. Hands down album of the year from the most creative band in metal

Standout Tracks

Yeah, 'New Junk Aesthetic' was the first ETID record I've checked out and it blew me away. Now I am going back and listening to their older albums. So far I've gotten 'The Big Dirty' and I can say that I am officially onboard the ETID bandwagon. I love this band.
