My best wishes to RJD. Been cranking some Dio tonight in honor of the man himself. Dio isn't just an icon of metal that represents what it's all about, he literally IS metal itself. I'm not sure there is a single figure out there that means more to the collective world of true metal, and better represents it.

This is a very serious situation here I lost my mom to cancer when I was 20 so this is a tough subject for me to talk about. Dio is possibly my favorite metal personality ever. He's such a great ambassador for the genre and stands for everything that makes metal what it is. I meet him at a meet and greet in 1997 and got his autograph one of the biggest highlights of my life. Nobody and I MEAN NOBODY in the world of metal has more love for his fans. When Ronnie talks to his fans in person it's like he's getting re-aquianted with an old friend. Even if you don't like his music you have to at least like Ronnie himself.

He's 67 years old so this is gonna be tough for him to overcome but with him being at the Mayo Clinic and the doctors being able to catch it early is a huge plus for him. Since the mid 70's Dio has recorded albums and toured with very few long breaks in between nothing has ever seemed to slow him down and it's because of that I believe he will overcome this.

Get weel soon Ronnie!!:rocker::horns:

DIO was one of the first metal bands I ever listened to, after Iron Maiden and Helloween, and Ronnie will always have a special place in my heart.

Long Live Rock and Roll, Long Live Ronnie James Dio! :horns:

Oh wow. Get better soon RJD!!

This really sucks. TBH I wouldn't be surprised if he retires because of it. Things like this show you how its important to appreciate your time and make the most of what you can with it. Dio did that and became one of the classic metal icons.

Maybe I'm a pessimist but I'm with Mike. I think this is it for Dio and Heaven and Hell, unfortunately. I hope he gets past this battle. He's what metal is all about, and we take for granted what he's done to fly the metal flag. :fist:

According to Wendy's statement it's "early stages", so hopefully his chances are good.

Damn this sucks. Hope he gets better!

I've thought about that as well and I do think this is probably the end for Dio touring and recording as well. Even if he is cancer free after a year or so at 67 years old we're looking at him being 70 by the time he fully recovers and is in well enough shape to record music and tour again. My mom passed away from cancer and the surgeries and especially the kimo therapy kick the shit out of you and leave with little to no energy.

I can see Ronnie doing one last show if he pulls through but I don't see any entensive touring and recording over the next few years at all.

I'm sending him a card. Never done that for a celebrity before, but I think Ronnie deserves it.
