Tour: Black Gives Way To Blue
Headliner: Alice In Chains
Support: No opening act for once!
Venue: First Avenue
Date: September 21, 2009

This was my first time catching a show at First Avenue. I have heard nothing but positive comments about the place and it definitely has my approval. Great sound, security, and friendliness from the entire staff. I have heard from many people that this is where Prince got his start. Not my type of music, but regardless, the guy is a true musician.

I took one of my 11-year-old sons with me, as he wanted to see these guys. We got to the venue a couple of hours early and waited in line with a bunch of other people. When the doors opened, we were able to get right up to the rail. The show started about 30 minutes late, but it was worth it.

During the show, Jerry Cantrell leaned over and placed a guitar pick in my son's hand. Jerry took his time just to make sure that no one else got the pick. Also, Mike Inez threw a pick at Nicholas, which he got. By the time that the show ended, my son ended up with four picks and Jerry's set list. Not a bad night!

The set list had It Aint Like That listed between BGWTB and No Excuses. This song was skipped. The half hour delay cost us a song.

I hope that these guys come through again! This tour kicked ass!

Set List:

Rain When I Die
Again
Check My Brain
Them Bones
Dam That River
A Looking In View
We Die Young
Nutshell
Down In A Hole
God Am
Acid Bubble
Angry Chair
Man In The Box
Would

Black Gives Way To Blue
No Excuses
Rooster

I have this show from dimeadozen bootlegged. It really sounds awesome.

I still consider it AIC even if it is without Layne. Otherwise, it's like saying AC/DC isn't AC/DC without Bon Scott. Or Anthrax isn't Anthrax without Joey Belladonna.

Cool review. If they had played It Ain't Like That it would have been one of the best sets of the tour. Why they don't play Sludge Factory and Junkhead every show still baffles me. Someday...
