Aerosmith OPENED for Whitesnake?

That's exactly what I was thinking. Whitesnake was at the height of their popularity here but so was Aerosmith. It's just strange that Aerosmith wouldn't have closed the show.

they must have had some other obligations or something.

Whitesnake was bigger in Europe than the U.S. where they were really a one album wonder. They were headlining major venues in England before Whitesnake 1987. It's also possible the contracts were signed long before Pump started taking off. Aerosmith opened for Whitesnake several shows across Europe.

The bigger question for me is why the fuck were Whitesnake playing Steve Vai solo songs?

Myabe it was a concession when Vai joined the band?

Always struck me as odd when Van Halen would do a few Sammy songs during the Van Hagar years, but maybe that was a concession too - an ego stroke

Or since David Coverdale was going to be offstage for 20 mins anyway why not try playing something slightly resembling a song instead of just torturing the audience with noise.
