This was one of my most anticipated shows for about 5 months, and I could not believe that the moment had finally come. Me and a large group of people met up at 6:30 in the morning to drive all the way up to Conneticut, having a crazy great time (my car got tremendously lost in Hartford and ended up taking a tour of the whole fucking city ). Once we checked in at the hotel we went to the parking lot to find it was closed, so my car went to wait in a Dunkin Donuts parking lot while my other friends went and tailgated at a legit paring lot for $20. After about an hour and a half or so, the parking lot opened up so we parked there and did some tailgating of our own. Once the gates opened, it was just a really chill environment. One of the biggest surprises this year was how good the Rockstar drinks actually were (because last year, IMO they sucked ass!). They saved me this year, and they were a great energy boost in between bands. Now for the show!

Behemoth
1. Slaves Shall Serve
2. At The Left Hand Ov God
3. Conquer All
4. Demigod
5. Ov Fire and the Void
6. Chant For Ezkaton 2000

These guys were the first band of interest for me, and this was my first time seeing them. I made my way up to the "2nd row" of the barricade, and that was totally worth it. Let me say, they were fucking brutal and epic as expected. They just commanded the fucking stage, and they gave no bullshit. I seriously sometimes believe Nergal is the manifestation of Satan in a man, and he just tears it up. Orion, Seth and Inferno were amazing as well. I didn't care too much that they didn't play "I Got Erection". And to wuote mankvill, I now most definately agree that "Chant For Ezkaton" is one of the best closers ever. Period. I got blood spit on my face by Nergal during the song and I just went apeshit! All in all, they were outstanding. A definite staple of the day. In between Behemoth and Trivium were a buttload of signings, and I managed to get some with Cannibal Corpse, Trivium, and Behemoth themselves. Cannibal were very chill guys, especially Alex Webster. I called him the Steve Harris of death metal and he just said "No..." very modestly and I laughed and told him not to be modest . Trivium were nice as well, and Behemoth seemed cool too, just a bit tired and exhausted (rightfully, they practically just finished playing their set). Next were Trivium!

Trivium
1. Rain
2. When All Light Dies
3. Down From The Sky
4. Throes Of Perdition
5. Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr

Trivium were very good, the best time I've seen them hands down. The new songs transfered very well live, and they were the highlight of the set for me. Nothing really to describe except a nice rowdy crowd and very tight performances. I had managed to get close to the "4th row" of the barricade, and I left after "Throes Of Perdition" to get a solid barricade spot for the Corpse. And I managed to get it as well :horns:

Cannibal Corpse
1. Evisceration Plague
2. The Time To Kill Is Now
3. I Cum Blood
4. Sentenced To Burn
5. Make Them Suffer
6. Priests Of Sodom
7. Hammer Smashed Face
8. Stripped, Raped, And Strangled

These guys came on immediatly after Trivium ended, and they just beasted the stage. Until Slayer came on, they were the best band that day. Of no offense to the other two that I had interest in, but they just didn't stop! Pummeling riff after pummeling riff, Corpsegrinder headbanged his ass off and screamed his guts out, the brutality was insane! From the slow heaviness of the "Evisceration Plague" to the speed and punch of "Hammer Smashed Face", they just showed all the guys who the kings of death metal were and are :rocker:. And I have found another song that's on the list of "Epic Closing Songs". Easily, "Stripped, Raped, And Strangled". You have not experienced brutality until you've heard that song. End. After the Corpse I went into the pit area for Bullet (whom blew ass) and Killswitch (who bored me). Only reason I tolerated them was to try and get barricade for Slayer (that was my one wish for the show). And crazy enough, whatever Metal Gods may be, I did get barricade, and I fucking went nuts when Slayer hit the stage.

Slayer
1. Darkness Of Christ/Disciple
2. War Ensemble
3. Jihad
4. Psychopathy Red
5. Born Of Fire
6. Mandatory Suicide
7. Chemical Warfare
8. Ghosts of War
9. Dead Skin Mask
10. Hell Awaits
11. Angel Of Death
12. South Of Heaven
13. Raining Blood

I don't even know where to start for these guys. Besides the epic win of getting barricade for the almighty Slayer, I don't think I've ever put as much energy into one single band than for them. I sang to every word at the top of my lungs and headbanged anytime I could. At least I was representing because the barricade crowd sucked, they just sat there and watched. It's like come one, it's fucking Slayer! And to top that some stupid drunk guy kept on fucking pushing and trying to get barricade, but thankfully my headbanging got him off a lot :blaze:. Anyway, Slayer were great. Absolutely great. Stole the title of the best band of the day for me. The Corpse came very close, but they was just too good. Only minor complaint was that Jeff's guitar was too low, but that could've been because I was on Kerry's side. Araya looked at me from time to time because of how active I was (or at least I hope he was, I hope I wasn't just getting illusions of grandeur ;))and it made me feel awesome :D. I can't even begin to pick highlights, every song was just amazing. Once Slayer was done, I left barricade and hung out with some of the group in the lawn for Manson. He was so terrible it made me laugh, legit. He depends on theatrics so much, and he is just so unprofessional. And finally, his voice sounds like he's choking on a hairy chode. After he finished his atrocious set, we went back to the hotel and stayed up til 3 A.M. talking about relationships, movie ideas, shoes in microwaves, etc. A fantastic day, up there in the top 3 of best shows I've ever been to (probably nothing will ever top the Somewhere Back In Time tour ;)). Definately up there though, no question. And that concludes Day 1 of my metal journey. More to come :rocker:

Haha From where I was standing Kerry's guitar was really low lol. Their sound was one of my only real complaints about their set. One guitar seemed too low at times, a little muddy at times, and barely being able to hear Tom's bass during that one part in Psychopathy Red. What I really found odd though was that a band like Killswitch (who were far from boring, IMO) would have better sound than a band like Slayer who have been around for twice as long.

All in all, fucking awesome day, though my favorite band of the show would have to be Cannibal Corpse. They just completely dominated. Slayer is a very close second though.

Good review man. KSE was far from boring IMO. Did you watch any of the other bands besides CC,Behemoth,Slayer and BMFV. I still cant believe how fucking good Behemoth was live i really could never get into them on disc but live i was very, very impressed.

In case anyone cares, Manson's set was the same as it has been for every other date on the tour.

that was one hell of a fucking show! I will see Slayer, CC, and Behemoth in the future. And yes, thats the reason why jeff's guitar was low. although i heard his guitar just fine, though. but w/e.

SerpentineVIVIVI
08-10-2009, 09:13 AM
Yea that was what I thought, it just didn't seem logical that Jeff's guitar would be downright lower than Kerry's the whole set. And to Araya's bass, I know what you mean, but Slayer have always done that really, the bass has never been too loud (that's unfortunate, but it didn't really bother me).

And to Behemoth, they are beastly awesome musicians, as well as a beastly band :horns:

slayer sucked... they didn't have any interaction with the crowd whatsoever and thats why everyone was just standing around. i was head banging when they first started but their performance was so boring that i found myself sitting down and playing games on my phone. its sad to say but even bullet had a better stage presence then they did. slayer.... worst performance of the day. cannibal corpse was the best by a looooong shot!

I don't know what drugs you were on or how drunk you were, but that is so incorrect. And I wouldn't even have cared in general, but you said that bullet had a better stage presence. Get the fuck out. :pissed:

well slayer sounded much better than bullet and they obviously are a much better band.... but at least bullet (and every other band) attempted to get the crowd going unlike slayer.

nope... 21. still young but i've been listening to slayer ever since i can remember.... and with a shitty/boring performance like the one they did, they don't deserve any respect. especially after seeing cannibal corpse.

I don't think Slayer needs to rely on stupid shitty gimmicks (like Killswitch Engage) to get the crowd "going".

then why was the crowd dead? .... oh yeah CUZ THEY SUCK!!! and btw... killswitch was close to home so everybody was more excited to see them than slayer. killswitch didn't need gimmicks either, everyone was singing along, the lawn/floor people were moshing and everyone that was in a seat stood up. when slayer was on the whole place went crazy..... for about 10 minutes. then most people sat down and stopped moshing. slayer had the worst performance of the day... they should take lessons from all the other bands on the tour.

Your retarted, Slayer were nowhere near suckage. Adam D. acts like a tool on stage, and sure he has some moments of seriousness, but overall he's a douche. There's no law that says you can't have fun on stage but to make yourself look like an idiot is just foolish. And the crowd could have been dead for a multitude of reasons. They were one of the last bands that night, could have been tired. Or the simple fact that the crowd sucked. I've seen it plenty of times, even when they have no excuse to be tired. Plain and simple, the crowd just sucked. Not Slayer's fault at all.

Slayer >>>>> Bullet in every manner and way. As I said before, you must have been crack full of speedballs or you think that the crowd interaction/crowd itself determines the performace.

I could care less if a band has any crowd interaction at all live. I like it when a band will shut the fuck up live and just get out there and let the music do the talking or "interacting" for them. I've been to shows where bands have interacted with the crowd and plenty that haven't and either way the shows have kicked ass. A band like Slayer doesn't need to interact live with the audience their music does that for them.

Did you ever think it's possible that the way Slayer performed that night isn't exactly how they perform every night? Every band is bound to have a few off days during tours. It happens to everyone before turining on a band because they had a shitty show you should first think that maybe it was just an off day for them that's all. Don't take it personel if a band plays a bad show when you go see them. Sometimes it's just not a bands night and that may have been the case at your show.

i agree with you 100%... i never said that i turned on them. i am just judging them on that day. i was looking foward to seeing them and they dissapoineted me but if i see slayer again, i will watch their performance with an open mind. i just don't think its fair that other bands get shit when they do good just cuz of who they are and slayer gets a free pass for sucking. but like i said... slayer is a good band and i was wrong for implying that they suck performing all the time, but that night was definitely shitty. i'm not gonna praise a band for a shitty job just cuz of seniority.

I found Killswitch to be highly entertaining and besides Slayer i thought they put ont the best show of the day. Killswitch tells jokes and Adam D runs around with a cape its pretty funny. They entertained the hell out of the crowd so that is all that matters

BTW this kid is on crack i dont what show he was at. Up here in Mass everyone was going apeshit during Slayer. Slayer proably got the best reaction of the day with Killswitch Engage and All That Remains behind them [proably beacause they are Mass bands and clearly its Mass]. Bottom line Slayer played the best show of the day.

Slayer were fucking great in Hartford. But to be completely honest, I felt a little disappointed, like I was expecting more. But it could have that I was just really freakin' tired, especially after going apeshit for Behemoth earlier in the day and Trivium, Cannibal Corpse, and Killswitch pretty much back to back before Slayer. Dead Skin Mask, South Of Heaven, and Raining Blood were amazing though.

I was at the mansfield show and slayer was really good, but not perfect they had minor sound problems for all of 30 seconds, and most of the crowd rushed to the seats to get closer, so there wasnt much moshing. I agree with what your saying while I thought slayer was sick(good enough for me to get a shirt) they were not the best band(on that day) I thought trivium, and ATR were perfect, so was CC but im not a big fan. I also relize that seeing a band for 45 min at mayhem isnt the same as 2 hours on a headlining show in an arena, or club, I saw slipknot at mayhem last year and they were sick, but nothing compares to the all hope is gone tour I saw at the tsongas arena. I was blown away and I think slayer would be much better on a show like that

ya actually this will be my 4th time seeing chimaira, two of the most memorable shows iv seen included them. I saw them with all that remains, and divine heresy, and then again at the music as a weapon tour witch I think is the best combo of bands iv ever seen(Disturbed,KSE,Chimaira) :rocker:

Wow, not trying to be a dick but that's kinda sad if those 3 were the best show you've ever seen. I have Chimaira so far over the other 2 live it isn't even funny. Last time I saw Disturbed they played 3 songs in a row that had the same exact tempo, just different lyrics. At this point they're 1 step up from Staind to me. I have 2 words for Disturbed... Divine Heresy.

There are more time changes in the 1st song on the new Divine Heresy than the entire last Disturbed cd.

IMO Coheed and Cambria is a great band and a great live band i didnt go to the Slipknot Show at Tsongas but when i saw Coheed in 06 they tore it up.

I've unfortunately seen Trivium four times now, they always end up playing with bands I like. You're not the only one - they're fucking terrible. Can't stand Coheed, either.

As for Disturbed, not really a fan on disc, but I think they were a pretty good live band the two times I saw them.

Well pick three of your favorite bands and put them in one show and thats how I view this. Not that those three are exactly my top 3 favorites ever, Im just a big fan of all 3, and all of them killed it at the show I saw. Iv seen alot of shows and some other amazing performances Iv seen are In Flames,Lamb Of God,Sevendust,Slipknot,Incubus,Godsmack,Children Of Bodom,All That Remains, and most recently Slayer, I thought all those bands were amazing live. I strongly disagree with you on the part of disturbed but every one has their own opinions I guess. Divine Heresy is a really good live band as well
