Well with the summer starting to come to a close all the fall tours are being announced. As always, there's way too many shows coming to my area for me to be able to afford them all. Anyone else have this problem (blessing in disguise? Better too many than too few I suppose) every fall/spring? I've got a pretty full schedule already and I just found out today that Satyricon is doing Baltimore and Norfolk in late September. I'd love to see them again but I might wait to see what they're playing before I commit to going.

It's only July and I've already got to choose between:

Motorhead 9/8
Primal Fear 9/9
Edguy 9/11
Pagan's Mind 9/15
Stratovarius 9/23
Sunn O))) 9/23
Satyricon 9/25 or 9/26
Metallica 10/17 (already got my ticket for this one though)
Saint Vitus 10/18

Plus Ensiferum is planning a US tour and I'd like to see them too. Decisions, decisions...

For me it depends on:
-Ticket price
-Ticket value (GA vs. seats/lawn)
-If I've seen a band once or twice before
-How good the band was/is supposed to be live

Primal Fear 9/9
Pagan's Mind 9/15

Go to these. I have no idea when you might ever get a chance to see either of the two bands again, especially as sole headliners. I've not seen either but I've heard that both are fucking excellent live acts, so I can't imagine disappointment there.
Also, if you've never seen Edguy before (the amount they've come to America since '04 makes it hard to believe you haven't), I can't recommend an Edguy show highly enough, especially since the set list this time around should be quite good. (THE PHARAOH!!!!!!!!).
Oh, and if you go to Stratovarius on 9/23 I'll be there. Not that that should really effect your decision, I'm just saying.

Go to all of them. That's what I'd do, and indeed am in my own case. Only choice I had to make was Gotthard or Paradise Lost because they're on the same day.

I basically think there's no such thing as concert overload as long as you can afford it. As soon as I'm going into debt to family members because I want to see more metal shows, I'm no longer seeing more metal shows. :D

I did this same exact thing. :fist: And Helloween and Gamma Ray also tucked in there up in Atlanta.

lol, there don't seem to be too many shows I want to see coming my way yet, or else they're all happening at times I can't go.
not to mention the cost. this is where a job would come in handy, however, classes take up too much time, not to mention the economy, which blows right now.

My tightest run of gigs was way back in 2005. One particular week in October I did Gotthard Sunday, L.A. Guns Tuesday, Arena Thursday, Cathedral Friday.

Tough on the wallet, I'd suppose.

I've got four shows in 13 days coming up August 11th-23rd: Giant Squid, The Gates of Slumber, Overmars, and Dream Theater. That will be my tightest run yet.

EDIT: This won't be terribly hard on the wallet either, I don't think. Let me calculate out loud in order to estimate the costs: Giant Squid- $8, Giant Squid CD- $10 The Gates of Slumber- $10, Overmars- $5, Dream Theater- $53, Gas- approximately $70 probably. $156 for four shows. Why the hell not?

My tight run this year will be in December. Five shows in six days, two of which are all-day festival days. W.A.S.P., Hard Rock Hell day 1 (Monster Magnet), Hard Rock Hell day 2 (Queensryche), Alice Cooper, Swallow The Sun.

my tightest run was this past April with 1.2 shows/week

3/29 - Tyr
4/10 - Kreator
4/17 - Lamb of God
4/25 - Amon Amarth
4/27 - Disturbed
5/2 - Gojira

Amon and Disturbed were tough because of the miles put on the car. I live in RI and Amon was in CT, then i went home to then travel to my friend who lives north of Albany, NY to see Disturbed in Glens Falls, NY.

the Lamb of God show had me falling asleep at the wheel driving home. Very not good. the moral of that story: the creepy old guy needs to be sure he gets a siesta before going out.
