Did they do all of Country Girl or just the first verse of it like they've been doing? I wouldn't mind another few songs of the new CD and one or two more from Dehumanizer

Did Tony look ok? I guess his back is feeling better.

Did Iommi look alright? I was worried about the whole back issue. That's not something you want to deal with...

I read on the Black Sabbath message board that Iommi looked and played fine. So maybe it was just a muscle pull or something. Hopefully it's nothing like King Diamond's back injury where he had to cancel his last North American tour.

Seems like Tony was better. He didn't move much on stage, as usual.

Kind of a short set, especially for the price they're charging. Anyone else think so?

Absolutely! Plus they have crappy openers when they come here. I saw them open for Priest last year and that was perfect. If they headline and charge that kinda scratch I need 4 or 5 more songs.

And I'm trying to be nice here but who in their right mind wants to hear a Vinnie Appice drum solo? What could he possibly do that would be fresh or worth hearing over Turn up the Night or another gem? I realize they're old and need breaks but give me a bass solo over Vinnie anyday.

Yep, and Iommi is one of the only people I would tolerate a dragged out self indulgent guitar solo from. I got kinda bummed when he stopped doing them.

Well... When you see this drumkit, you want to hear a drum solo!
Worth to note, generally I don't like drum or guitar solos.

Definitely I agree with you. Their promoter in France is a guy named G駻ard Drouot. He's a complete asshole. He sales the most expensive tickets for concerts in France. But unfortunately, he organizes shows by Motorhead, Whitesnake, AC/DC, Heaven and Hell and some other bands.

In other words we have no choice.

Or maybe we do. In 2005 Alice Cooper was playing in Paris for 60€ (organized by G駻ard Drouot). The next day, Alice was playing in Belgium... for 30€! So we went to his show in Belgium by car and all in all (ticket, drink, food, fuel, and road toll) we paid some 50 to 55€!
So with this promoter it's cheaper to see the same show 300km away than in your hometown. Amazing.

For those complaning about a short set keep in mind that Sabbath/Dio have almost always played 90 minute sets through out their careers. Sabbath has always been a band that goes out on stage and plays the stuff they have to do then leaves. The drum solo could be cut as well as the extended jam in the middle of HNH because no one cares about that stuff anymore. I think the reason for that is Dio is gonna be 67 years old next month and while his voice still sounds powerful live he may not be able to keep the vocal strength up for an entire tour now if they played longer.

Perhaps cos after the first song the band collectively realizes how fucking horrible it is and decides to stop to avoid anymore fucktardery.

That is the most obnoxious drum kit I'm ever seen. That bass drum over his head should fall on him during one of his solos.

They have a lot better songs than Country Girl but i never thought it was a bad song. It has a good riff and the lyrics are decent.

So long as they turn up and play in Italy on Saturday, I'm happy.

Couldn't agree more. My ears always seem to hear drums over bass at live shows. At a H&H show that it a total travesty. I think Geezer is one of the best bass players to ever live. Add in the fact that he wrote almost all of Black Sabbath's early lyrics (sorry Ozzy fans, but it's true) and he might be Top 3. He is a musical genius in every sense to me.

That being said I've seen Vinny Appice live 6 or 7 times and I hate to say it but he might be the worst live drummer I've ever heard. He botches basic shit way too often for me and his fills are weak. I used to joke that he was Dio's bodyguard and that's the only reason Dio kept him around. I remember a Dio show when he flubbed twice during Don't talk to Strangers almost ruining a great song.

These days when someone needs an obnoxious kit like that it might be because he wants people to remember the kit rather than his playing. I know a ton of people who think Tommy Lee is the best drummer who ever lived because his drum kit spun in the air. hahaha
