Well, the time has finally come. I've been thinking about this a lot for quite some time, as some of you know. This board will always hold a place in my heart due to the ties to the IMBB, but the truth is, it's not the same board it used to be. When it comes to a lot of our new members, I simply have nothing in common with them. When it comes to a lot of the older members, I simply can't seem to agree about anything anymore, and it's hard for us to post around eachother without arguments arising. I feel like a good number of people here don't like me or respect anything I have to say, and I don't think that's going to change because it's done nothing but get worse over the past couple of years.
I'm not trying to point fingers and say it's anyone's fault, I just don't see the point in posting here anymore. At the end of the day, this is merely a message board, and thus it's not worth staying here if it brings me far more grief and aggravation than it does enjoyment. I already talk to most of the people on here I want to remain in contact, and during the period of time that this site was recently down, I realized that I don't need to be posting here. I'm not getting anything out of it except negativity.

So, for any of you who wish to remain in contact with me (don't hesitate), here is all of my contact information:
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=logo#/profile.php?id=1145330772&ref=profile
Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/maiden33
AIM: Mindruler33
Yahoo: DTJeffT
Email: DTJeff33@yahoo.com
And I post on UltimateMetalForum under the user name DTJeff, so if anyone posts there, drop me a line.

So, I guess this is goodbye. I'm gonna be giving it about 24 hours for you guys in case you might want to say anything or I have some significant second thoughts, but then I'm gonna be telling the mods to give my account the axe so I can't return and start posting again when I get bored in 6 weeks.

Farewell,
Jeff

Well, we didn't exactly see eye-to-eye on many things, but it sucks to lose a prominent member of the board, and I wish you good luck with your band :metal:

Aahhhh, well I can't say I didn't see this coming, due to your growing dissatisfaction with this place, but it's still regrettable. Despite our disagreements, I can say that you're a pretty cool dude and we'll be losing a valuable member. I guess we'll have to find a new Power Metal expert.

In any case, if you're really going, then, it's been nice... forumsing... with ya. Good luck with your band, and good luck in general. Feel free to come back a year from now and notice yourself being discussed in our occasional "those who have left us" threads. ;)

Ah man, another metalhead leaves the metal forums. pretty soon we're gonna be down to nothing but starbucks sipping fairies talking about shitty poetry. ;)

All I can say is, you shouldnt let internet arguments get to the point where they make you frustrated, yea some members here make annoying posts now and then, but just laugh about it. But oh well, it's your call, I'll add you on facebook now, stop by in january for the year end list atleast.

Hmmm, not really noticed anything getting particularly out of hand around here. A slight downturn, maybe, but nothing drastic. Not like other boards I've seen disintigrate (BLS.net, for example). And do you really need people to agree with you to enjoy the debates? Really?

But all the same, it's always a shame to lose a regular poster who actually knows their shit. I mean, who's going to drive home the point that everyone should be listening to Evergrey now? ;)

Well thanks everyone. As I said, I encourage you guys to keep in touch with me if you want to. If you send me a request on my Myspace or Facebook, just try to make sure you state who you are in the request. I'm always happy to talk about music or whatever else, and I don't have any real problems with the majority of the people here.
As of now, I'm not going to tell the mods to axe my account, just in case, but it's still gonna happen sometime soon.

Oh man, before you leave, I've been meaning to ask you. Have you heard the new Strato album? I've been considering picking it up but it's such a "Who knows?" kind of thing to me that I have no clue what to expect. I figured if there's anyone here who's heard it that would have an opinion I'd agree with it'd be you, so I better ask you before you go.

Hmm, I'll add you on facebook too, yknow, just in case. ;)

Yep, I have heard the new Strato album. I grabbed it like the day it leaked.

If you are a pretty big Strato fan, I'd recommend picking it up. This is certainly leaps and bounds in front of the '05 self-titled abomination. I'm not going to lie, there are a couple of tracks I would consider "duds", but there are also a couple of tracks I really enjoyed, mostly in the middle of the album ("Blind", "Forever is Today", "Higher We Go"). Considering my expectations due to the last album, Kotipelto's solo work, and the Revolution Renaissance output, this album was a pleasant surprise. However, it's still not a great album.
... in my opinion anyway. I've heard people talk it up to be the best thing they've put out since Infinite.

I'm one of these, but I'm not a fan, really. I have, and like, Twilight Time and Visions. But everything else I've not really enjoyed until this one.

I don't feel I got to know you, I've not been here long enough, but in the months I lerked before I joined, I came to respect and enjoy your posts, not to mention now no one get offended if I'm wrong, but you're the only one I know, semi-personally, who has more than one album available to buy from amazon mp3...pretty damned cool (unless there is more than one band named necromance?) lol
anyway I like the others are sad to see you go, its a shame that people can't just get along and let people have differing opinions
good luck with everything

No, you're just listening to the wrong bands. There are lots of great, unique vocalists in the genre, but most of the most popular bands have ones that sound considerably similar. The reason a lot of the genre gets such a bad rep is because the more popular bands are generally the biggest examples of the genre's bad points.

Are you trying to suggest that it wouldn't be possible to do this exact type of thing with any other kind of music? Because that is 100% untrue.

I only really listen to a handful of power metal bands. Gamma Ray is pretty good, Kamelot has lots of good stuff, Sabaton... their singer sounds unique and has that "goofy-awesome" look down, Blind Guardian... maybe a couple more bands I can't think of atm.

But lots of the bands I hear just all sound like Hammerfall.

The fact that you can easily layer vocals from a pop song over this kind of instrumental backing--and have it sound exactly like an actual power metal song--just goes to show how much Power Metal is mostly just a bunch of chord progressions and solos. Focus on riffs is essentially what separates Metal from Rock and makes Metal its own genre, so without that, what have you got?

P.S. I nominate this track for Power Metal Song of Year.
