Circle Centre or Keystone? I'm gonna guess Circle Centre because Keystone is the most fucking elitist, de facto whites only mall I've seen in my life.

Castleton Square. Though I should make a mental note to go to Keystone for the lulz. :money:

Hey Maiden33, you will be extremely inconvenienced to know that Savatage pretty much kick-started the Florida death metal scene. That band, as well as Jon Oliva's name, was named dropped for a good 30 seconds in the Cannibal Corpse DVD.

cut all junk food out of my diet, ate one meal a day that was atleast 1/3rd vegetables for dinner, and replaced lunch with a high-nutrient/vitamin fruit juice drink.

i started reading the calorie labels on the back of stuff i eat, estimated what i can eat to keep my calorie intake under 2000 (your body uses about 2000 just being awake and breathing and walking around your house) and altogether avoided anything with high fat content, sense that's counter productive.

Oh how I wish I could just do this. My best friend and I had always been in the same general weight bracket for our respective heights, but dropped like 50 pounds over the last 6 months, and I'm just in awe. Not because it's actually THAT difficult, I just don't have the will-power to make it happen. I guess at the end of the day I just love food too much.

Throwing away my orange wine. You know how sometimes when you pour orange juice, it froths up? Well, adding yeast to that isn't a very good idea.

Out of necessity (I'm staying on a military base, and don't have a car yet), I've been walking to and from work each day, which is about a 15 minute walk, as well as to the dining hall, which is a little further, every evening. Also, the dining hall serves good, healthy meals (dirt cheap, too) and a salad bar, so I'm hoping the combination of exercise and better eating will mean that I'll drop a few pounds. I'm not looking to lose a lot, really, I'd just like to be able to wear some old shirts that I can't fit into anymore.

ChildrenofSodom
08-10-2009, 11:15 PM
I'm about to go to college, so with all that walking, plus free access to atheletic facilities, and not being around my unhealthy family may motivate me to lose some weight, or at least avoid the freshman 15.

Ha, doesn't work that way, dude.

Sometimes it does. :eyes::D

edit: I've found watching what you eat (not necessarily dieting) and engaging in some cardio almost daily (maybe a short run or something) really do work wonders for losing weight/staying in shape. And one of the best ways to decrease your calorie intake is change what you're drinking. Soft drinks and even better things like juice really do add up, even though you'd think they wouldn't. If you start drinking almost exclusively water and unsweetened tea, half your work is done for you. Silly things like this are what got me down to 158 pounds now, when I was 194 at the end of my senior year in high school, with relatively little effort at all.

Div

not really. im 6ft and was at 195 during the spring semester (someone put a scale by the shower, it was impossible NOT to use it every day) now im down to 175ish. i do plan to go back up to 195, but it will be due to muscle mass and not late night burger take out.

20lbs isnt really a noticeable difference anyway, your face might get a little thinner and around your arms, but your body wont remove alot of belly fat until the rest of you is relatively lean.

if anyone has an iphone, i saw this video showing how to use an app. to manage your calories http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hz2HJCUb2U0

Reading a smaller number is really nice though, innit? I was 214 in February and 190 now. I definitely look better in pictures than I did when I was heavier, and I'm just trying to get back to the weight I was at freshman and sophomore year because that worked out really nicely for me (I was 180 or so). But I've programmed myself to store fat in my belly so much that even though I dropped 24 pounds I don't know how much I dropped from my stomach - read: not enough.

If anyone is trying to lose weight, HIIT (high intensity interval training) works absolute wonders. It's truley a silver bullet in weight loss. I lost about 35 pounds over the past year by doing HIIT and regular cardio. The greatest thing is it only takes me 16 minutes to do one of my HIIT sessions (although it's fuckin hard).

http://www.intervaltraining.net/hiit.html

I usually do the 60 second training at the intermediate level (although I've knocked it down to a 60 second rest phase).

This is really hard. I've tried similar stuff, and it's way too hard to get "in the zone" for me. When I'm biking or running, I can put on an album and kinda forget I'm working out after a while, but you can't do that with this kind of stuff.

I won't bother with a thread because no one cares except NatrlHi and the setlists were the same, but I saw Giant Squid, Grayceon and Kenoma tonight, and it was seriously life-affirming. Easily in the top half dozen shows I've ever seen. Basically, those three bands, among them, have every last thing I love in metal right now. The post-rock arrangements, the prog metal sensibilities, the reverence for the Almighty Riff, odd instrumentation, and the list goes on and on. SEE THIS SHOW if you're into that kind of thing.

well it was made by some independent artist and put up on some street corners in san francisco.

the full image has the word "socialism" written under it, i cropped it off to avoid starting debates, but people on the news were calling it an outrage, disrespectful, dangerous, racist (?), etc. etc. saying the artist should be jailed.

your idol mr jones then got upset over them trying to censor people so he printed out a shit ton of copies and told people to put them everywhere.

MANDRAGORA line up

Jeff Pouring - Guitar/Vocals
John Li (Order Of Ennead) - Guitar
Justin DeMuth - Bass
Keith Byrd (Seven Kingdoms) - Drums

And we're all taking a part in recording the keyboards as of right now, because we have no keyboard player. The style is really a culmination of tons of shit that I/we listen to, but I'd say mostly it sounds like Amon Amarth/Ensiferum with more epic orchestration and a little more a heavy metal edge. We're recording at RedRoom Studios (Obituary, Circle II Circle, Andrew WK, Porcupine Tree, Six Feet Under, Lacuna Coil) with engineer Mark Prator. I'll keep you guys updated and of course when it's done we'll have a myspace etc.

I feel bad for him but let's be honest. He's the opposite of Cutler, a good guy and a bad quarterback.

What I came to ask:
My mom tells me that records should be stored vertically. I asked a friends mom also and she said that's correct, so they don't warp.
The funny thing is that I found a stash of my mom's old records at my grandmothers house. They were stored flat for who knows how many years and they're no more off axis than a new pressing.

Serpentine i got a couple of other ideas for you fail horror fest

Gingerdead Man
The Evil Bong
Boogeyman

What's funny is I originally had Gingerdead Man on the list, but my local Blockbuster didn't have it :(

Now The Evil Bong and Boogeyman look good though. Maybe for the next one :D

LOL the best part about Gingerdead Man is that Gary Busey is in it! Boogeyman is hysterical and I would put on the top of the list for the next one.

This is awesome.

Might I also recommend Troll 2 and Silent Night Deadly Night 2.

That seems to be the general reaction when people see that. I mean seriously, The Nanny is getting killed by a Zakk Wylde turned Santa. That constitutes awesome in my book :D

I just looked up Troll 2 and SNDN2, I can't believe I missed these! They look hilarious. For my next marathon I'll be sure to put these in.

So, my brother likes to research and read and learn about school shootings. Likes telling my facts about school shootings (Columbine, in particular), even though I've told him I don't care about that stuff. He bought a trenchcoat (never wears it, but still bought it nonetheless) and he definitely matches the description of 'typical school shooter' kid. Long dark hair, metal shirt, wristbands. Now, to me or one of us here, we wouldn't think that was too weird, but to the 'world', I'm sure it looks suspicious. He was just listening to an ICP song about a shooting, and I told him to turn it off. He often has depressing, i don't think suicidal, thoughts and has a small group of friends (some of which use drugs.)

I don't think he is doing anything dangerous right now, and seems pretty happy (plans for college, prospective girlfriend maybe) but I think some of the things I just described are disturbing. Should I talk to my parents about it? I mean, this sounds bad, but I'd rather have him open up about his issues and his fascination with the thing people like him are stereotyped at doing. I also don't want to hurt his feelings, or make him feel austracized.

What should I do?

Yeah, I don't really have a problem with that aspect, I guess I feel weird more than nervous. Like this is basically just really unusual considering I had been in the same room for like twelve years and now I won't be. Well last night went allright. I sold better than expected, but I still lost a lot of money ($150 to be exact :bouville:). I did manage to sell one for $60 and the other three for $50, so I thought I'd be selling them for less, so that was sort of a plus. It's a shame I couldn't make it to the show either, my friends who I met up with at the Garden had won tickets at a radio contest and got free tickets, and being that they couldn't sell them, they offered me free entry, and I chose to decline because I had a dinner with very close friends of mine and it was sort of a big deal. I don't regret it, but a part of me inside does wish I stayed, it seemed fun after speaking with the guys (and for the fact that at the dinner, we encountered friends who we weren't supposed to and they sorta stuck and it "ruined" the point of the dinner). They were handed backstage passes by Pete Way of UFO right in front of me, so that was a sucker punch :hecho:. Good for them though. Still, night was fine I guess. Just wish I hadn't missed Sabbath.

In other news, that same night I apparently left my phone at my table, and thankfully we were some of the last people there at like 12:00 A.M., and since Applebees opens at 11, I'm about to head there soon to make sure no one takes my phone and I am phone equipped for school :D. Funny you say that, I'm looking around and remember why I migrated from ultimate-guitar.com to here. I search for drum program, find a thread titled " Self-Fellatio" that is 809 pages long. Not to mention that their pages are 20 posts instead of 10 like here.

That didn't help, but it made me lol :D

Just got back from a student media meeting at Indiana and I'm mostly officially a reviewer and multimedia contributor (basically blogging and a podcast) to Weekend, the weekly arts and entertainment supplement to the daily newspaper! Hooray for journalism that barely involves doing journalism!

EDIT: I bet they won't ask me to review The Gates of Slumber CD, nor the CD release show. Guess what: doing it anyway.

So...the metal meeting was ok. There were a lot of "core" people there; As I Lay Dying, Lamb Of God, Suicide Silence (who was the favorite band of a hot girl I really wanted to bang ), one person actually mentioned Attack Attack as his favorite band, and another person actually said he liked nothing but breakdowns. There were even two "scene-kids" there, right fuckin down to the uniform and the shitty hair, and one of those kids mentioned that a) his favorite band was the aforementioned AA, and b) he pretty much said he hated Rob Halford.

But there were plenty of "tr00" guys there too. One guy even said he loved Manowar! :fist: And the leader of the whole club seems like an alright guy (he likes Baroness). We actually are going to have an "album of the week" every meeting and the first one we are going to discuss next week is Reign In Blood. :bouville: I'm gonna make a lot of friends with this one.

I didn't stay for the whole thing as I had to attend the WIUX call-out meeting, so for all I know the last half hour they could have broken out into an orgy, but Brad can fill you in on this.

Well, I'm off to go concoct my blasphemous essay on why Reign In Blood sucks.

The metal club is awesome.

After you left, all the -core people did and there were only tr00 people and we only watched good videos, listened to good songs, and talked about good bands (for the most part).

...and perhaps so do you. I can live with this other douchebag spouting his nonsense, but him I just chalk up to being an ignorant ass. What is this heresy I hear from you?!? On second thought, I don't want to know. I'd rather we have fun discussing the things we do seem to agree on (which seem to be many).

But really?!? :scared::wtf:

Well, it doesn't suck, but it has to be by far the most overrated metal album of all time. I seriously have no idea why this album gets the "every note of every riff of every beat of every song is perfect" praise that it does. Show No Mercy, Hell Awaits, South Of Heaven, and even Haunting The Chapel are far better. Angel of Death might be the greatest metal song of all time, but one song does not make an album. Fear of The Dark anyone?

Well at least in this context your apparent lunacy makes at least some sense. But still. I really think it's their best album.

Show No Mercy, Hell Awaits, South Of Heaven, and even Haunting The Chapel are far better.
At least you picked other good albums to compare it to.

Angel of Death might be the greatest metal song of all time,
Damn skippy.

but one song does not make an album.
Agreed. There are also some of the most killer riffs ever in songs like Piece by Piece, Jesus Saves, Criminally Insane, Reborn, Epidemic, Postmortem and of course the seminal Raining Blood (did I just name half the tracks on the album - I think I did!).

People rave about it because it is a watershed album. Right place, right time, right chemistry. Plus, it has no truly shitty songs on it. Plus, the album spawned a genre, as well as an era in metal, as well as leagues of followers who would often imitate - but never duplicate - both the critical acclaim and the commercial success of the album. Never. Not even close.

What else does it take to make an album "great", I wonder?!?

Nat :horns:

I personally think Reborn is boring, as is Piece By Piece, and Necrophobic, while very very fast, would be outdone by bands like Dark Angel and Kreator, who would play just as fast if not faster that very year, and be able to knock go it at for 3 to 4 minutes, where as Necrophobic only goes on for over a minute?

I will say though that I think Reign In Blood's production is close to perfect. But if Hell Awaits sounded that good, nobody would be talking about Reign In Blood today.

Now you're actually starting to make sense. ;)

That was a fucking crime, wasn't it? Hell Awaits is damn awesome - we will probably never know how sweet that album could have been.

Trying to get a song I recorded on Mixcraft on YouTube. I'll post the link to see what you guys think of the song. It is just a rough take of course, and due to the drum machine their are some time lapses in the song due to tempo changes in the song, but it doesn't really affect the song itself. Recorded with a crappy Line 6 amp too, so I tried to have the best tone I could, so don't hate please :D
