I just noticed that my Ensiferum tour shirt from Summer Slaughter last year has a bit of a fuckup on the back. Obviously whoever was did the shirt design (specifically the tourdates on the back) just grabbed the dates from somewhere, because two of the dates are listed as "7/05 - Edmonton, AB @ Starlite with" and "7/06 - Calgary, AB @ The Whiskey with" as if the dates had been nabbed from a Myspace or something where it would have said "7/05 - Edmonton, AB @ Starlite with BEHEMOTH", because those were two of the dates they did on SS.

Ok, I'm usually the person to be really upset by animal cruelty and all that, I'm a vegetarian and always on top of being pissed off by shit like this on the internet, but really I don't see how the bolded part effects anything, assuming it was already dead. People do that shit all the time. I'm not sure how she killed it, but while it was certainly not the best thing to do, if it was dying killing it certainly doesn't go to the top of the list as far as cruelty is concerned. Postmortem I really don't give a fuck what they do, it's dead. Watain, for example, routinely do worse in killing non-dying animals for their retarded stage show. I'm sure the images are disgusting to many, but there is definitely a lot more sickening stuff on the internet and in every day life.

First of all, I wouldn't use a black metal band as your bar for what should be morally acceptable. Corollary to that point: life isn't a contest. Yes, alot of things are relative, but just because B is worse than A, that doesn't lessen how horrible A is. Second of all, she was "playing" in the dogs guts, which is weird. Third, its a fucking dog....not a frog or a fetal pig...it was someone's pet.

I used that band because lots of people here like them. I realize it's not a contest, but I personally do not see it any worse than a lot of the ways animals are killed in slaughter houses. I suppose it's weird to play with dead things, but I don't think it's horrible. It's really hard for me to care about what happens to a corpse once something dies. It may be gross but I don't have any moral objection to it. If it was glorifying whatever bad act was done before hand, that's pretty fucked up, but still. Eh.

Are these people retarded? By some of the quotes in the paper I cant help but feel theyre using this kids death to try and get some special gay orgy zone, because getting special treatment is what equality is all about.

Its not a "gay zone" in the sense that they can all "run and hide", and even jokingly suggesting its for orgies is really offensive. I was involved with preliminary negotiations with the university for such a program here at Ohio State, and the purpose is to provide a safe place for LGBT students and allies to come together and feel like a community. Most colleges have a "black cultural center" and similar programs for other demographics. For example, international students from China or India have programs where they can interact with each other and cope with the culture shock of moving to America for school. Similarly, black students can bond at the cultural centers in order to feel more comfortable in a predominately white, middle-class environment.

The same thing, presumably, for gay students. Yes, alot of homosexual young people feel safe enough to be openly gay in today's society. But for whatever reason, maybe this student (and others like him) don't feel safe. Obviously it wasn't as safe as it should be, if his supposed friend/roommate thought it was funny to humiliate him. A special place on campus for LGBT students and allies to come together and discuss their problems might have provided this student with an outlet, and he may not have thought suicide was his only option. You figure students like him live a lie every day of their lives, constantly surrounded by implicit and explicit messages that their homosexuality is wrong...I think they deserve an environment in which they can feel safe, for at least a few hours a day.

(I know you probably hate multiculturalism, but I think you're speaking from a place of privilege when you say you don't understand why minority students would want a place of their own.)

you know, i figured someone would feel so self-important that they would feel the need to get "offended" by my post, but im surprised you would be so quick to insinuate that im intolerant. i am after all attending the most diverse campus in the country, if not the world, so i have a bit more experience around other types of people here in nj than you do in white bread ohio, and i find it annoying that you would even accuse me of such a thing.

the fact that you feel the need to feel sympathetic to gays just because theyre gay shows that youre not viewing them as equals. giving people special treatment just makes other people resent them, and thats not going to help smooth over relations between people who are at a misunderstanding.

im not sure why you thought it necessary to bring up blacks here, they seem to be the "go to" group whenever people feel the need to try and garner up sympathy, which i find pretty ignorant. believe it or not, there are quite alot of african americans who are not poor and downtrodden and uneducated, who dont feel so insecure as you would imagine around white kids, so using stereotypes like that is kind of short sighted when youre talking about a very large group of people.

but my complaint isnt even about having a program, which there already is, for gays. (rutgers has a very large gay, lesbian and bi community and advertises it frequently) its the fact that these stupid kids are melodramatically laying down on the sidewalks and building entrances holding signs about how theyre "putting their bodies on the line" so the university will establish a physical location on campus thats strictly for gays to live and hang out in. the only group that has that here is the jewish center, and thats because they have alot of money and actually bought land to build that on, not just act obnoxiously and demand the school turn over real estate to them just because they like to have sex with men. there are already a couple dorm halls here that are unofficially known as the place to live if you want to be around other gays, but its selfish to ask the university to take an official stance and discriminate against everyone else when it comes to on campus housing, which is already in very very high demand.

perhaps now you understand more where i am coming from.

I guess we all need special zones now, so we can alienate each other from the rest of the population.

yea, i think im going to go lay down infront of the dining hall and demand they have metal dorms because metalheads are underrepresented here and by doing this i will give everyone else a higher opinion of what metal culture is really about.

after all, why should we have to put up with the discrimination against the type of music we choose to listen to? i guess through proper conversation and by trying a little i could change a roommates views on metal, or at least make him more tolerant and understanding, but thats too much work. i just want some place all to myself because im more important than the non-metal kids and im not willing to put effort into changing their views.

Being "sympathetic" to gays isn't giving them "special treatment." It's basic human fucking empathy. Some of these kids are tormented for their entire lives because of who they are; something they can't change. None of us straight, white males having this discussion have any idea what that's like.

EDIT: And are you really fucking comparing being gay to being a metalhead? Jesus fucking Christ.

EDIT: And are you really fucking comparing being gay to being a metalhead? Jesus fucking Christ.

actually, i was alienated and tormented for most of my adolescence, so i do have an idea of what its like.

but i know in your logically perfect mind its impossible for me, being born with white skin and having a passion for vaginas, to understand what its like to be miserable and depressed and think of suicide. im telling you the best thing this kid couldve done was to just blow it off and laugh about it a few years from now. the student body here is so large that most of the faces u see walking around campus are anonymous, and the amount of those who would openly hate on someone for being gay is a minority. lets also take into account that almost noone here would actually give a shit about a video of some dudes make out session.

and yes, im comparing being gay to being a metalhead, obvious fangroups of certain bands aside. its an activity we choose to partake in when we listen to the music, some who are really passionate about it work it into their lifestyles. sex is the same. some people abstain from sex altogether, should we have special zones created for people who dont want anyone hitting on them or wearing suggestive clothes? theyre a minority too, and im sure its frustrating for them to have to deal day in and day out with all these people who want to fuck.

the basis of my argument is that survival rule #1 for being a human being is to be able to deal with different types of people. creating official special areas for everyone will only retard the learning process.

and id like to add that if anyone deserves sympathy from this its the friends and family of the kid who killed himself, and to a lesser extent those of the two kids who are in jail right now, but i dont think the other gay kids on campus deserve sympathy from this incident at all.

you lose the argument because youre not staying on topic. you really need to pay attention, man! it seems you guys just want to lump every negative thing in the world together as if theyre the same event.

im not talking about concentration camps, and he wasnt physically abused by his life partner. a video was posted on the internet, that maybe 10 people at most saw, of him mackin it with a guy in his college dorm, thats all. its embarassing, and an invasion of his personal privacy yea, but a far cry from being comparable to persecution against an entire race of people. and ill say it again, the proper reaction was to say "yea im gay, stop filming me dude". you think im being too detached and that it should be taken more seriously, but this kid took himself so seriously he ended up being so mentally distressed that he jumped off the GW bridge, friends and family be damned.

(For this next story, remember that I live in a dorm and I'm a lame ass who has never dated anyone. I have a tendency to over-react). Anyway, so I have a white board on my door to be friendly and solicit comments. Whatever. Most of the stuff so far has been funny drawings, girls "friends" in the dorm posting cute "I love Cameron" stuff, etc. No biggie. Well, when I got back to my room last night, there was a message that read, "Come visit room 1079" with a winking face. ;)

So, being the socially-retarded, virginal 20 year old I am, I freaked out. All day I was thinking "its probably a dude messing with me" or something. So, I go down there today (I'm in 1011, btw, so not that far) and the door is open. I find a super cute blonde chick doing her homework, and I say "I was told to come visit this room," and she kinda laughs and I explain that it was written on my board. She laughs, puts her face in her hands, and bends over into her lap, yeah...that cute way some girls laugh. So anyway, she says it was her roommate who is not in right now, but will be back either tonight or tomorrow. So, I should I come back later.

So I do what any tech-saavy virgin would do and look her up on facebook. Super cute girl. Now, I've lost (according to today's weigh in) 66 lbs since June, and I've built a little muscle. I'm still ugly and a little fat, but I have noticed people being nicer, more friendly, and possibly (?) flirtatious at times. But, I've basically convinced myself that she has me mistaken for the much skinnier (and black) Cameron that lives in a different wing...because there is no way a cute girl is talking to me.

I don't really know why I'm posting all this. It may seem pretty inconsequential to most of you, but I'm, like, freaking balls right now. I'll check back in later.

EDIT - While I was typing this long, embarrassing thing, another hot girl walked into my room to say hi. Some guy with her heard my Dio playing down the hall and wanted to know who it was. So, I guess losing a bunch of weight, keeping my door open, and smiling makes me more approachable. Depends on what sort of pizza we're talking about. A typical-sized REAL pizza from a real pizza place? Yes, and me, as fat as I am, could never even think about doing that, even throughout the course of an entire day. But I've eaten an entire store-bought pizza by myself before. Im a big movie watcher and the desent did little for me, stuff similar to what you've seen would be The Reaping (it's somewhat creepy for the first half, then ends on an over the top and very funny note), The Omen, and Poltergeist immediately spring to mind, as they all play on the creepy innocent child side of things.

Then there is the must-sees: Nightmare On Elm Street, Childs Play, The Living Dead saga (In fact most things by George A. Romero), Last Houst On The Left, Friday The 13th etc.

Give all those a watch and just go through the horror section on most movie sites and you're pretty sorted.. avoid most of the last decade and a half though.

Nightmare on Elm Street (original) and Evil Dead 2 are my favorite horror movies of all time.

*Note: You can watch Evil Dead 2 without having seen Evil Dead 1 and still understand everything. I suggest you see ED2 and if you really dig it check out ED1. I didn't mention Army of Darkness (Evil Dead 3) because that is in no way a horror movie (but it's still fuckin hilarious and worth checking out).

First one I seen was ED3, then I went ED1 and ED2.. All three are worth checking out, three different but very awesome movies, only three films that jump to mind straight away outside the original star wars saga in which I could actually recommend any one of the three to view to anyone who was looking for a good movie.

EDIT: Forgot Night/Dawn/Day of the Dead, another three movie streak I would have no problem recommending.

Today is the first day of my second month. I'm doing "doubles", so I did cardio in the morning and I'm about to start Chest, Shoulders & Triceps + Ab Ripper X. Follow it up with a glass of results and recovery formula, and I'll be golden.

Shit was intense. I chose to do the classic routine, so I started with Chest & Back. Fuck me, I am terrible at push-ups  . Ab Ripper X is a little too much for me right now, so I'll have to work on that. I'm considering trying out the Lean routine instead, but I'll probably just stick with the classic.

I liked Train of Thought, but Idk, they have a lot of good stuff.

So today, I actually got a job, working as like. . . I guess a tutor for elementary school or a middle school, and like on my way home from there, my car runs out of gas and I'm pushing the car in the middle of the damn street and it's raining like crazy, and then this random cholo vato comes out of nowhere and helps me push my car to the side.
Then I got that taken care of, you know put gas in it...
Then I get home, and my brother and I are talking about my other brother who likes to drink and drive like an asshole.
Anywho, I asked my bro if he was awake that night when the other came home, and he was like, yeah, dude I woke up at 4 a.m. cause I heard some bitch moaning (they share a room) and he turns on his computer screen and there's porn playing like fullscreen and all loud hahaha, and he couldn't find my other brother, and then he was looking in the kitchen for him and it turned out he was in the restroom.
Boys these days.

Anyway, I was bored so I thought I'd share that.

Well, the lean and doubles don't start until month two; month one is the same for everyone. And I feel so tired right now. :D The cardio in the morning got me pumped for the day, and I just finished the lifting....I could just go to bed...forget studying. And yeah, Ab Ripper X is really advanced, in my opinion. I can't lift me legs on the Mason Twist, and I can only go about 10 reps before take a break on the other moves.

A word of advice...Buy a resistance band (I have a green one from Gold's Gym) and wrap it around your feet on the moves where you are on your back, lifting your legs. You can use the band to help keep your legs up, but its still a killer ab workout. But no matter what, keep pushing play!

Delete Systematic Chaos without even listening to it. That's a good start. You can also definitely do away with half of Train of Thought, half of Falling Into Infinity, nearly the entire first disc of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.

Images and Words is THE masterpiece IMO. After that my second favorite is Scenes From a Memory but most would say Awake. I also really love the first album, When Dream and Day Unite, though the production is terrible. Octavarium and Black Clouds and Silver Linings are the two best albums of the 2000's stuff.

Brutality and Bloodshed for All (my favorite), Freaks, Faggots, Drunks and Junkies (most peoples favorite), GG Allin & Antiseen, and then EatMyFuk as well as (if I remember correctly) You'll Never Tame Me are ok, the rest are not that great.
B&B and FFD&J are the most needed.

28 Days LaterYou really liked that one, didn't you?

Seriously, though - Jedi's list is pretty good.

I'll throw in a couple of the more obscure suggestions off the top of my head, just because I don't think they'd get mentioned otherwise:

Hostel creeped me out quite nicely. I really liked it.
High Tension is a French horror flick that really kept me on the edge of my seat. It has a twist, too. Cool movie.
The Descent - I think somebody else already mentioned this. I liked it a lot. It also has a twist.
The Fly - the 1986 version by David Cronenberg. Excellent film.
The Ring was actually pretty creepy and good. The sequel...not so much.
The Grudge was also pretty creepy and good. The sequel...not so much.
Saw was really fucking creepy and good. The numerous fucking sequels...not so much.

...and of course there are numerous classics which haven't been me tioned yet, such as Psycho, Carrie, The Omen, Children of the Corn, The Birds, etc.

...and lastly, if you want a laugh - and some good punk music to boot, try Return of the Living Dead. That movie rocks. Literally.

Oh, and I'd definitely start with The Shining from Jedi's list. One of my favorites movies EVAR. Scary as fuck, especially when I was a kid and saw it for the first time. That shit gave me nightmares for fucking days. :snivel:

^^^ The Fly is a great, under rated movie...I don't like Goldblum very much, but he really carries that movie. There's a theater near me that runs scifi/horror classics once a month, in the last year I've seen the Fly, Alien, Aliens, Evildead 1 & 2, and Dead Alive on the big screen, pretty awesome.

The only horror movies I own, and therefore my favorites, are Dawn of the Dead (1978), The Exorcist, Halloween (1978), Let the Right One In, The Shining, and The Wicker Man (1973, and questionably horror). Honestly a few of the more esoteric art films I like are more disturbing/scarier than any horror movie, Eraserhead immediately leaps to mind.

I used to be obsessed with horror in like 7th and 8th grade though, so I kind of know what to look for in the genre. In addition to the movies I own, Night of the Living Dead, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser, and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre are all fucking essential.

And Friday the 13th has always sucked, even when I loved horror movies.

That shit still creeps me the fuck out. The scene where the blond chick who becomes "impregnated" (I'll just leave it at that so as not to leave any spoilers) is lying on the cot and suddenly opens her eyes and glares at the Asian guy...that part still just sends shivers up my fucking spine. Creepy fucking movie (and it has Alice Cooper in it as a street bum who's possessed by demons, so it's officially :metal:). :D

The population of a small town disappears and is replaced by aliens that chase human flesh for their intergalactic fast-food chain.

Derek (Peter Jackson) and his friends must investigate the missing people in a small village. Then they find out its human formed aliens that are really big headed monsters that used all the people in the small village into their snack burgers. Now, Derek must save the day and the world with his chainsaw before the meat eaters strikes the whole planet. Will Derek kill all the aliens?

Let me answer the second question first. It depends on the tits you're talking about - the tits I like are pretty expensive. :D

But seriously, the program itself is about $150 - $200 if you buy it, but there are ways to obtain it without paying this much - if you know what I mean - and that's all I should say about that. Other costs would be for a chin-up bar, which is about $30 if you buy the type that hangs in a doorway (which is what I did), about $25 or so for a set of resistance bands if you want to go that route, or about $75 (or perhaps more) for a set of dumbells if you want to go that route and don't already have any. Other expenditures would include about $25 to $30 for a decent mat (you need it for the ab exercises and the yoga routines, plus some other stuff like the stretching routine, which I highly suggest you do EVERY WEEK). The last category of expenditures is supplements. I highly suggest you at least get your hands on some decent protein powder to be taken as a recovery drink as a minimum. You will get sore as shit and be unable to complete the routines if you don't, plus you won't get as good of results as you could have if you had used it. Personally, I bought energy bars and whey protein formula for pre-workout, and a different protein powder (highly micronized, very fine) of whey protein isolate for taking after workouts in the evening before bed. The protein powder I used pre-workout had some carbs in it for energy, but the stuff I took before bed didn't. You definitely don't want to be taking carbs before bed or you won't sleep well and might even be putting on weight instead of taking it off!

Regarding the amount of space you'll need - Cameron is basically correct, but only as an absolute minimum. However, it's even better if you can clear yourself out a space about 10 feet wide and 15-20 feet long if possible, because some of the plyometrics and Kenpo routines require a little bit of movement. I would also suggest as hard a surface as possible - for example, a carpeted floor would kinda suck for some of this stuff - especially yoga - because you need some stability uinder your feet. The mat will cushion you for the floor work - don't worry. I did the workouts on my basement floor, which is concrete with ceramic tile, and that proved to be perfect. Also, you might want to make sure you have some decent head space above you - you will actually be jumping in the air from time to time and / or doing stretches that require reaching up as high as you can. You can get away with about 8 feet of clearance if you have to - I did, because that's all the space I had in my basement - but I wish I'd had about nine or ten feet...that would have been even better.

Hope that helps, and good luck. Number one rule...do your best, and forget the rest.

(Also, whatever the fuck you do, just keep pushing play and don't fucking quit. Quitting is for fuckheads named LeBron.)

Speaking of fitness, I've spent the last seven weeks (!) bouncing between 159 and 166 pounds despite doing pretty much the same thing I did to drop from 191 down to that range, so I think I'm just done and settled into a comfortable range. New goal is not weight loss but rather making sure that 165 remains my upper bound. I'll still work out every day and weigh in every week just to keep myself honest, but I guess I'm in Phase Two (or Three, if simply not eating everything in sight after I graduated high school was Phase One  )

Then the mods/Pavo should listen to all the bitching we've been doing for the past year, and create a fitness/health subforum. ;)

Also, I did Cardio X this morning and I'm about to start Back & Biceps with Ab Ripper X. I'm still sore from Monday and Tuesday...so if I don't get on here for a while, you all should know that its just because I'm bed-ridden. :D

They say 8-10 reps with a heavy weight for mass, 12-15 reps of a lighter weight for lean muscle. But never, under any circumstances, do 11 reps. ;)

I'm transcribing my second interview in two days, and this motherfucker talks a lot faster than the other one. Also, I'm running on almost no sleep and my fingers can't move as fast as they could last night. And, this transcription isn't even CLOSE to the last thing I have to do tonight. i never thought i'd say this but i think i realized i have been growing out of metal as a whole within the past year. i feel as if i only listen to a lot of bands for nostalgia reasons from being in high school, or if i want to get pumped up because i know i would be seeing them soon. an example of the nostalgia reason would be back when i was 15/16, i used to love melodic death, power, and folk metal. nowadays i can't get into new bands with those genres at all even if i know it's good, it just doesn't click for me anymore. i still enjoy listening to the bands within those genres that i used to listen to a lot.

maybe i'm becoming bored of metal but i used to be attracted to metal bands easily, nowadays there usually has to be something different about them to attract my attention. and i have tried MANY sub genres out there, and pretty much nothing clicks for me.

maybe it's just growing up. on another note i'm gonna go with my friend on thursday to meet a recruiter for Marines. i'm trying to get enlisted within the next few months.

maybe it's just growing up.

In my opinion, changes in musical interests does not mean you're growing up. This forum is full of mature people who enjoy metal. However, if you meant that when you were in high school you only listened to metal because you were angry at the world, perhaps that does equate to growing up.

Maiden33
10-11-2010, 10:06 AM
I really just think it should be worded as "growing out of metal". I hate when people try to equate "growing up" with losing an interest in metal, or music in general. But that's not to say tastes don't change, they do. I just don't think it has anything to do with "growing up" or becoming more "mature", unless, as the previous post mentioned, you were only listening to a style of music because you were angry at the world like a lot of teenagers are.

@Maiden33 and treghet:
i didn't mean growing up as in getting too mature for metal, i meant maybe i'm just getting older and the same type of music just doesn't appeal to me like it used to when i was younger. and no i didn't listen to metal because i was angry at the world in high school, i listened to it because i thought it was fucking awesome. i still think it is, but just saying when i try to get into new bands it doesn't really click for me anymore like it used to.
