I love doing my show on the computer. About 30 minutes before I go on air I pick out anywhere from 5 to a dozen tracks right away that I want to play that night, basically a cross-section of my listening over the past week. Then as requests come in I will arrange my playlist accordingly, just leaning on the pre-loaded tracks.

It's not very hard to get an internet radio show. Especially if you already know someone with one. I don't remember exactly what the screening process entailed, but it wasn't that difficult to get one. You need a fuckload of music though, I stress that. Most stations ask you how much you have on the computer you'll be broadcasting from. My friend and I have a library of in the neighborhood of 1,000-1,300 albums, and it always seems like there's still more to have that's in the format of our show that people want.

My cousin committed suicide last night. He used to be into drugs but he'd been clean for two years, and he told his girlfriend he was going to kill himself, so she called my aunt and she found him hanging in his recording studio (he was in a band that roughly sounded like Alice in Chains meets Stone Temple Pilots). reading it...

i dont get what this guys deal is that he has to go into so much detail. all the song is saying is that the UN was "Created to prevent wars and promote peace, it failed to address the most dangerous threats facing the world." and then it lists several terrorist attacks and acts of war that happened despite its watch, and that the biggest one in recent history ironically occurred several blocks away. dave didnt say "U.N. DID WTC", why is he getting so defensive about that?

and brushing off christianity a "fundamentalist doctrine" is a bit pompous, no? i dont think sewing his religious views into the article was necessary. noone asked him to open up that argument.

I'm currently contemplating how the hell I'm not going to die after September 8th-24th.

9/9 - Edguy @ Blender Theater - New York, NY
9/12 - Primal Fear @ Blender Theater - New York, NY
9/15 - Pagans Mind @ Jaxx - Springfield, VA
9/23 - Stratovarius w/ Pagans Mind @ Sonar - Baltimore, MD

I just did the math and that looks like 1,100 miles will be covered over about 22 hours worth of driving. I don't even want to think about how much this is going to cost in total.

Not ONE of those tours is coming closer to you? That sucks, man. This fall is so chock full of shows, I feel like I have to pick out which shows I'm gonna have to miss instead of trying to find shows I want to go see (which is sorta how it is for summer now... The Stratovarius tour is actually playing in NYC as well, but it's even closer to the other 3 shows, the tickets are over $10 more, and even though it's an hour closer, will still cost more to go to because it's in the city. The Pagans Mind gig is an off-date, and probably the only chance I'll ever get to see them headline. As usual Edguy isn't playing anything closer than NYC, and I don't at all mind going to NYC to see Primal Fear. Not one of these shows annoys me that it's too far on its own. I go to NYC on average 2-5 times a year for shows, depending. I just wish I didn't have to make 4 trips within 15 days.
On the plus side, the slightly varying demographics of my friends will allow me to go to most of these shows with a slightly different group of people each time, so I may not have to drive at all and shouldn't have to spend an absolute arm and leg on travel. I'm gonna have to hit up my friends in each location to see about possibly spending the night instead of driving all the way home after the shows, particularly for the Pagans Mind and/or Stratovarius shows.
Also, my birthday is actually September 7th, so I won't have to say all of the money in advance, I can just fall back on birthday cash... I hope.

Binghamton isn't THAT far from me, in the big picture. And it's an incredibly easy drive (476 north all the way there). For how much music we have in common, if you're going to go to college there for four years, we should meet at some point.

I was once road-tripping (ish) out to Oswego with a couple of friends (to get one out to school there, because really there is NOTHING else there) and sometime into the night we pass a sign that says "Binghamton Exit, 4 Miles". We got excited, and decided to visit calling up a couple of friends who we knew were going to school there. After getting them riled up about us visiting and partying up with them, we get off the exit - and it turns out the sign merely meant the exit went to a highway to Binghamton, as the next sign we saw said "Binghamton Exit, 88 miles". Needless to say it was disappointing and we had to turn back around and call everyone back, but it was pretty hilarious. We made up for it the next day by stopping by at Cornell.

That's about my only Binghamton related memory so I thought I'd share it. :D

I unfortunately have too many memories of Binghamton that are all exactly the same. Going to work with my dad and having to get up at 4am to drive 2.5 hours up there, work for a pathetically small amount of time, and then drive 2.5 hours back. I could not sleep on the job as well, that needs to be said.

Got my schedule for this fall at OSU:

-Math 150 (basically college pre-calc, the only math class I should have to take in college)
-Spanish 102.66 - At OSU, you need to take 4 quarters of a foreign language, and I barely tested into the second quarter.
-Intro to Political Behavior (Honors)
-Social and Behavioral Science Survey
- Leadership and Public Service course

May end up dropping Spanish, because I suck at Math and Spanish simultaneously, and I don't think I can handle two classes that I will need to study hardcore for and get a tutor for, as well as an honors class, a cumulative 21 credits hours, AND two leadership/community service programs. I'll just take it in Winter, Spring, and next Fall (or summer). I'm trying to replace Spanish with that Nordic Mythology class, which would kick ass.

Elaborate, if you will.

In my own words, I don't like meeting new people. If I am in a situation in which I don't know someone else, I have a difficult time opening up to the new people (a party, school functions, college orientation). I am extremely shy. I am constantly fearful that other people are looking at me, judging me, watching me and I try to cover it up with a 'I dont give a fuck what the world thinks' attitude. Its so bad, that when I enter a room I go straight for the back corner so that no one is behind me. Partially related to a control issue I have. I don't like being subjugated against, I guess. I always have to feel like I am in control of the situation. You guys have seen it on here from me, with me trying to argue all the time.

I get very very defensive anytime someone makes fun of me, points out a mistake, comments on anything about me at all. I hate attention being called to me. I find security in internet conversations and text messages over personal conversations. I can't open up emotionally to friends or family. I feel misunderstood all the time. I am depressed most of the time. Instead of 'going with the flow' I create some false thoughts for other people, and by that i mean "Oh, I bet this girl here thinks I'm a fat, stupid slob. I could never date her." "Oh, this old woman here is silently judging me." Even though I know fully that a) these people probably will forget I exist in 2 seconds and b) their opinions (true or false) do not make a difference to my life, I still have these thoughts. I avoid social interaction for fear of rejection. The last girl I asked out was in first grade. Brad can attest to this, but there have been 3 or 4 girls in my school that I have talked about non-stop, thought about, had a crush on, whatever you want to call it, and never made a move (til it was too late.) At school dances, I sit in the corner and mope because I am afraid a) girls won't want to dance with me, b) I will look like a fool when I try to dance. I have terrible academic, physical, sexual, and emotional inferiority complexes. I'm a loner who hates people.

I cannot make eye contact with ANYONE. Whenever I talk to someone my eyes are either down at my feet or the table in front of me, or they are darting back and forth so as to avoid eye contact. Its to the point where my vision actually wacks out and I can't focus my sight. With girls this is particularly awkward because then I think they think I am staring that their chesticles, and then i get more self-conscious. I'm prone to violent emotional outbursts, getting really pissed for tiny reasons or really sad.

Sorry for the long ass post, but I need to get this off my chest. I need some help.

This website describes it better. (http://www.socialphobia.org/fact.html#top) I don't have aspergers, and I think there are too many compounding factors for it to be just depression or whatever.

I'm gonna dive into this a little bit, and as a result I'm going to pick it apart and only highlight certain things.

-I don't like meeting new people.

-Instead of 'going with the flow' I create some false thoughts for other people, and by that i mean "Oh, I bet this girl here thinks I'm a fat, stupid slob. I could never date her." "Oh, this old woman here is silently judging me." Even though I know fully that a) these people probably will forget I exist in 2 seconds and b) their opinions (true or false) do not make a difference to my life, I still have these thoughts.

-I'm prone to violent emotional outbursts, getting really pissed for tiny reasons or really sad.

These three things are three things that I can very much relate to myself.
As far as meeting people goes, I have always just had a difficult time really getting to know people, and I think a lot of that may have to do with my specific yet extreme interests in things, particularly music. There are people who know a little bit about everything, and then there are people who know everything about a couple of things, and I have always been more that type of person. I am always thinking about music. If I meet someone with whom I have absolutely nothing in common with musically, it's nearly impossible for me to actually hold a real conversation with them. I tend to get incredibly shy around new people. Either that, or somehow it just pulls a total 180 and I become very extroverted and I become a loud-mouthed ass-clown. It's really strange.
And yeah, I can totally relate to the self-conscious paranoia sort of mentality. Almost any time I go anywhere, I see people and it's almost like I can feel them forming opinions on me, without even speaking to them. And for some reason this bothers me, even though, as you said, it really doesn't make any difference at all. I wonder sometimes if I just care entirely too much about what people think. I am usually fearful that people are far too willing to write me off physically before giving my personality a chance. Especially when it comes to girls.
And I can also relate to the emotional outburst thing. It's calmed down a bit as I've gotten older, it used to be a lot worse when I was younger. Still, I think I know what you're talking about. If I'm in a stressful situation and I feel like I am having unjustified judgment passed on me, I instantly go into "freak out" mode in which case I am prone to just mentally breaking down and doing things I would never otherwise do.

The reason I asked you to elaborate was because I figured you probably had at least a few things in common with me, which it's pretty clear here that you do. I don't think that really makes anything better, but it definitely adds to my theory that I think you and I have a good bit more in common than meets the eye considering our vast differences in taste and opinion.

ChildrenofSodom
07-16-2009, 10:30 PM
Yeah. I agree with everything you said. You and I both care deeply about a few particular things (music and politics respectively) and we have a difficult time talking about or thinking about other things. We both get overly butthurt when people make fun of us or find fault with us, and we're slow to recognize and apologize for our mistakes.

The thing that worries me is, yes I can read books to give me ideas on how to meet people and make friends and overcome paranoia, but its only now, at 2:30 am, when I haven't spoken to anyone or been out in public for a few hours, and am now on the internet pondering my life, that I realize these things. Out in the real world, I know that i am doing these things, because I am thinking these thoughts, but its completely involuntary and I only see how foolish it is after the fact. Another symptom of social anxiety is hindsight dissatisfaction, which happens to me ALOT. I'll be in a situation, either talking to someone IRL or typing on here or facebook, and i'll engage conversation and say things, but then when I reread my words or analze what I had just said, I am extremely dissatisfied with myself. I oftentimes delete posts on here a few minutes after posting them, because my mindset was completely out of wack when I typed.

Its scary, because if i can identify these problems now, why can't I overcome them in the moment? I dont know if medication or counseling will/can help. I'm alienating my friends, making myself look like an ass to you guys, and coming off as an all around grumpy, self-absorbed reclusive prude. And thats not who I am, thats not who I want to be.

I can relate to this so much it's sickening. I absolutely hate how any time I go anywhere or do anything, I replay the scenario 3,000 times in my head, analyzing every tiny aspect of it. What was right, what was wrong, what should have been different. It's terrible. For example, I went out with this girl about 2 weeks ago, and I had a great time with her and all was well etc, etc, but when I got home I spent the entire rest of the evening reliving the last few hours beating myself up for every little thing I could've done differently and better. I read entirely too much into every aspect, and it didn't take that long before I went from feeling great to feeling really stressed. I guess in hindsight it didn't matter much considering she apparently had a good enough time to go out again, but nevertheless, it's still an ongoing mental battle for me.

I think alcohol cures this. (Hear me out) I'm not too drunk right now, and I can still function on a computer, read, think, use logic, and I stutter less and speak more openly once I've had a few. Maybe I just need to a) keep a drip IV of booze in me all day, or b) (the more legal, sane, inexpensive method) remember what I feel like now and just force myself to act normal in daily life.

Holy crap, and I thought I was behind the curve, getting my license back in April.

For a college student living in NYC, I'm probably actually ahead of the curve. :eyes:Most people my age from around here still can't drive. Choosing to drive around here instead of public transportation is often more of a hindrance than a help (with obvious exceptions), so people just never learn to drive unless they plan on getting the heck out. I really like road trips, so it'd be nice to be able to not be the guy who can't drive on one of 'em. :dorky:

My parents both lived in Brooklyn all their lives, and never got their licenses until shortly before I was born (I guess they decided having kids was a good reason to drive). But this place is just backwards about driving.

No, it's just an American-made car from 1996 and has more wrong with it than I can afford to repair ($1500 estimated repairs, value around $500) and I can't really afford to buy a new car that won't fall apart on me, so I'm up shit creek until probably next summer.

In a bit of a pickle here. Rockstar Mayhem is the 8th, and Dream Theater is playing the same day on LI, so that blows balls, because I would obviously go to that one, but I cannot. But, they are playing the next day in the city, and Ticketmaster is having this buy 3 get 1 free deal crap, which after the math, would make each ticket $36ish bucks. I already have two people ready to go for Dream Theater, but I would be coming back from Mayhem of all shows, and it doesn't help that it's in Conneticut, I'll be coming back from a hotel that same day, and I will probably be exhausted. And to top all that, that Tuesday (the 11th) is DevilDriver, whom which I have a friend already set for. Mayhem and DevilDriver are set, Dream Theater just came to my attention and my priorites are getting mangled. Basically, I want to go to all three shows, but I have to act fast.

Pros- 1) See all the bands, obviously.
2) My grandpa has an apartment in the city in which I can stay for the night of Dream Theater to the night of Devildriver (9th-11th). That would save me a good $35ish from the LIRR.
3) The buy 3 get 1 free might motivate a friend of mine (at least I'm hoping) to accompany me, and spending a good 3days in the city in a nice apartment would surely sound nice.

Cons- 1) Day right after Mayhem. 'Nough said.
2) Might not find anyone who wants to go with me to DT, and the friend that already confirmed with me for DevilDriver might not want to go to Dream Theater, and if he doesn't then there would be no point of me staying in the city.
3) Cash is gonna be saved with the Ticketmaster deal and the whole staying in the city idea, but it still requires $$$ nonetheless, and my friends can easily get demotivated when cash becomes a factor :(

I'm gonna do some planning. Sorry for the rant guys.

I don't feel like posting a whole thread, as many people will just troll it to the point that it gets closed.

As some of you may know, All That Remains recently released an acoustic single of their song off of Overcome, titled "Forever in Your Hands."

They used to be one of my favorite bands, but now it feels painful to say that I'm a fan, especially after seeing this:

It makes the last ounces of my respect for them slowly seep out.

Fall of Ideals still is great, but I really hate the direction their going. Pretty soon they're gonna be that band that does signings at Hot Topics across the country :tp:

Opinions?

Please no harsh or nasty responses, and don't comment if all you're going to do is bash All That Remains.

I actually like All That Remains. I have a soft spot for good metalcore, and I like the basic melodic death metal, decent growling, mixed with high singing. The original of this song was already pretty 'lite.' His singing is pretty bad on this version though. This and the acoustic Two Weeks aren't too good, because he didn't change the vocals for the acoustic version.
