I've found that my life is more structured here, so its easier not to eat. I have to physically leave my dorm and walk to go eat...whereas, when I was at home, I could just go down to my kitchen to snack or drive my car to a fast food place. And, believe it or not, the dining places here on campus have healthier choices than my family usually provides.

Thats great, I'm glad thats working for you. Being able to bill domino's to our meal plan card was my downfall.

Yeah, that is thinking WAY into the future. My plan is, while it is still too cold to go outside, do alot stretches, crunches, and push ups to get my old bones moving again. I've cut out all sodas and gatorade (my number one killer) for water, cut down on carbs, and eat more salads (slowly cutting down on dressing).

you can lose over 100lbs in a year easily. if you wanted to be able to fit in with the guys on jersey shore you probably could by next july. you just have to be a bit strict. find something that motivates you, whether it be being able to move faster, play athletic games better, havinge the hot chicks eye you for once, whatever it is, keep that goal in your head. then fall into an almost military like discipline. [ex. "from now on you only drink water, eat meat and vegetables, and sleep atleast 8 hours a day. you will endure the temptation and discomfort of junk food and gain pleasure from denying those things to yourself"]

read something like that once. on a side note, the salad bar is your best friend for filling up. i just had a plate with lettuce, spinach, those flat asian beans, cashews, shredded cheddar, and oil&vinegar. tasted amazing for a plate full of leaves. i also find that if i get cravings for chocolate ice cream or something sweet, ill just grab a cup of coffee with a little bit of coffeemate in it and that satisfies me without all that extra sugar.

I've gotten 'serious' about getting fit in the past, and I delve into a strict routine for two weeks, and then I drop out because it is too much work. What I'm trying to do is ease into a new lifestyle......Instead of eating salad, no pop, cutting down on snacks, extensive workouts, and whatever....I am doing a few things here and there so that I am more comfortable with it, and I won't get fatigued.

I lost an assload of weight my first year at college in the dorms. my roomie would go home almost every weekend because he had a girlfriend back home, and I would eat at the cafeteria all the time. Loved makin' me sum salad and baked potatoes.

EDIT: In all seriousness, I ate Chipotle almost daily during the holidays because I was off work for almost two weeks straight, and I was working out on a regular basis and running around and doing errands and such, so I was constantly looking for a quick meal in between point A and point B. I also have been stopping there at least two or three times a week throughout the program. I've lost somewhere between 20 to 25 pounds since Thanksgiving. I also eat a lot of chicken, lean red meat, yogurt / sorbet for snacks, try to squeeze the veggies in there as best I can (salads for lunch a lot of times), and in general I just try to watch the carbs and fat (also dairy), drink plenty of water and don't eat for several hours before bed. It's amazing how much a few simple changes can help.

I just had a glass of water, chicken soft taco, fried okra, and a salad with lettuce, onions, mushrooms, banana peppers, carrots, eggs, a little oil, and a little Thousand Island dressing. I think if I work on reducing the salad dressing and be mindful of bread (could have done without the taco shell) I will be set.

Riot - the "Thundersteel" and "Privilege of Power" albums. Cleaner vocal style than the bands you mentioned, much more high-pitched, but the music is ferocious, technically brilliant heavy/power/speed metal. "The Privilege of Power" is probably among the more ambitious albums I've heard, including the only songs I've ever heard that mix speed metal and a horn section.

Also, see some of Dungeon's more thrashy efforts:

In Lady Gaga's video for the song "Telephone," released in March of 2010, the performer wears a spiked leather jacket featuring a GISM back patch. Whether Lady Gaga is actually a fan of the band is unclear. However, the director of the music video, Jonas Akerlund, is former member of the Swedish metal band Bathory and could very well be the reason for the jacket's appearance in the video. The jacket also features a patch for the UK crust band Doom.

best music video or greatest music video of all time? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQ95z6ywcBY&feature=player_embedded)
Did you catch in the beginning of that, when they go to throw Gaga in her cell for the first time, the less mannish of the two prison guards says, "I told you she doesn't have a dick", and the body-building bull-dyke says, "too bad". Priceless.

So much for that little rumor, I guess. It was fun while it lasted, though. :D

Iím a fan of the Cold Lake album. Itís good for what it is, even though itís not what fans might want from Celtic Frost. How did that album come about?

You want me to explain that in a few minutes? This is such an absolutely complex process that led to an album so terrible. Itís absolutely impossible to explain.

So youíre not a fan of the album?

I am extremely happy about this album in a way that, at least I have done the absolute worst I could possibly ever do in my entire lifetime Ė Iíve done that. So no matter how much Iím going to fail in the future, I will never sink that low again. No matter how many missteps and mistakes.

Cold Lake is the absolute lower limit of whatever can come from my mind. So there it is, at least one positive thing that can come from it. Itís probably the worst album ever created in heavy music. Iím not saying that to be cynical. This is my honest opinion. I have to live with this. But I was the only guy from Celtic Frost, so I bear full responsibility, regardless of the facts behind it. And Iím accepting that responsibility. Iím not a coward. It is an utter piece of shit, and thatís not crass enough to describe it.

It's not my personal opinion, it's just what I've heard.

You care to offer a counterpoint?

It's their darkest, most intense, most personal, most "metal" album they've put out since To Mega Therion. They combined black, death, doom, and gothic metal into one of the bleakest, most awesome records of the last decade. Tom G Warrior sounds nothing like he did from 87-90 and has a real pained touch to his voice. It's absolutely crushing and absolutely amazing.

Very interesting, I actually took the time to read the whole thing. Now, I am admittedly about the furthest thing from a movie geek - I average seeing one new movie a year in theaters - tops.

But as a self-confessed absolute music geek, I sense a parallel between the two worlds. There's definitely a sense of community loss there as well.

For example - the ability to expand your music knowledge through a friend. Granted, I download a lot of music, but the difference is that I don't discover new bands by doing that. I only download to fill "collection holes" or grab new releases by bands I like when they leak. My biggest mechanism for discovering bands I've never heard is still my good friend Chris, who I hang out with once a week. He has an absolutely colossal physical CD and also digital music collection - the result of loving the same general style(s) of music for about 25 years now. It's that great sense of community and camaraderie through sharing our music directly with eachother that I think is lost on most people in the age of digital music.

Very, VERY pissed off about my job right now. I've been having problems working consecutive days of extended shifts, because my job is really, really hard on my back and feet - so I recently talked to our "Customer Operations Manager" who does our schedule - and I explained my dilemma (I've had to call off for shifts over the past two months because I couldn't physically work them, and if it continues to happen, he will probably suspend me - the next step would be getting fired). So he acted like he understood (even though he did kinda act like a dick), and said he'd schedule me for shorter shifts, less consecutive days, etc. I thought I was in the clear.

... until day, when I saw my schedule for next week and it's probably the worst one I've ever had. I am now pretty much convinced that I am being set up - thinking I will wind up calling off, and then getting suspended, and if he continues to do this, get fired. I've heard stories that this guy has set up people to get fired before and, just because he didn't like people (and I know he doesn't like me) has found reasons to get them fired.

Yeah, the general message applied to lots of things that attract geeks - movies, music, comic books, etc. - if it used to be borderline impossible to find, chances are it's now a Google search away. I remember in 2003 and 2004 having to hunt down cult movies like rare wild game to watch with a friend and now I can YouTube them...it's simultaneously fantastic and disheartening.

Made a "Carcass Greatest Hits" playlist. I don't have Wake Up and Smell the Carcass, or I guess I would put Edge of Darkness on there. It's gonna be really hard for me to lay down the money for that since it's basically alternate recordings of songs I already have with a couple other things, but I guess I'll get around to it eventually. Anyway:

1. Genital Grinder
2. Regurgitation of Giblets
3. Pyosisified (Rotten to the Gore)
4. Reek of Putrefaction

Bolt Thrower, because they are 99% retired?

After all this time, it finally just kinda dawned on me.

There are actually people out there, people who call themselves fans of metal, who think Suicide Silence is good.

It took me so many years to accept that fact...but what the fuck?

For the hell of it, I was on youtube and searched "Live at Bamboozle" and the first two videos were Suicide Silence. And it's almost as terrible as seeing them live.

The next match was Paramore. I would pay money to see Paramore. You'd have to pay me triple the price of a ticket to sit through a Suicide Silence set willingly again.

What is wrong with people?

Seriously.

On another note, how they didn't include Slayer in that list baffles me. I don't think any of those bands "ruined" metal neccessarily, but to make a bullshit list like that and not include the band that influenced so much of the faux Satanism and violence in metal just kinda confuses me.

I don't think they mean metal as a whole is ruined. I, like you I believe, have listened to certain bands that make me go "no." I think this list just signifies what bands are responsible for the bands that make us go "no." I don't agree with a few on the list, but I understand it.

In the beginning, I was attracted to MetalSucks because I was looking for a blog about something I love that was fun to read. For a long time, it was just that, a blog about something I love that was fun to read. After a while though, they started to become more and more, as you said, "gimmicky", and I started to not have as much fun reading the blog anymore. I think every week or so, they have maybe 2 or 3 articles worth reading. Simply, it's not the site it used to be.

TonyD
03-27-2010, 02:14 AM
I could totally agree with that list until it started with Metallica and Sabbath. Metallica just made their own shitty music, it's pretty much safe to say that nothing past their first 4 1/2 albums influenced anyone. And I don't see any way that Sabbath could be a negative influence other than producing copies and posers, which any great art does.

listing the actual problem would be useful ;)

I got back to OSU last night, and I couldn't connect to my wireless internet. I went to the IT place and they got it to connect by doing a system restore back a point before a Windows update a few days ago.

I can use Internet Explorer to get online, but when I try to open Firefox (my prefered browser) it says "Unable to Connect." I have uninstalled and re-installed the program numerous times. I downloaded Opera and that won't connect to the internet either. I tried to download Chrome, but it couldn't 'connect' to even start downloading the file. What other information can I give you?

My computer (Toshiba running with Vista) will connect to the wireless network and internet, but for some reason certain browsers won't work. I have Windows Defender for firewall protection, and I toggled that on and off, but nothing happened. I am thinking something is preventing my browsers (except IE) from connecting to internet.
