I figure I spend 10-15 dollars on a TPB, which is only 160 pages.....about the same.

It's roughly the same price here. I just think it's far too much, however you cut it.

I don't even want to think about what I've spent on comic books. Or CDs, for that matter. They make me happy, so I just pay the money and forget about it. :eyes:

What I've spent on CDs could feed a third World country. But I never pay full price because there's just no point. All that does is give the stores extra profit. Patience = more CDs.

Patience, or the Internet (buying them online, I mean ;)).

Also, buying them from the artists at the shows is better for both you and them, because they get more of the money and you pay less. Win win. :D

Patience, or the Internet (buying them online, I mean ;)).

It's certainly the combination that's necessary. One without the other is often futile.

Also, buying them from the artists at the shows is better for both you and them, because they get more of the money and you pay less. Win win. :D

I do this where appropriate, although paying less is rarely the case. Buying t-shirts is more common, to be honest.

Arkham Asylum was the true GOTYI am now inclined to agree. Holy goddamn this game is awesome. I beat the story mode last night and I'm working on doing all of the extra stuff (Riddler Challenges, etc.) so I can get 100%. I'm at 72% right now. My only gripe about the game is that the graphics aren't quite up to snuff compared to some other games, but everything else makes up for it in spades. The combat is intuitive and ridiculously fun (dropping down silently from a gargoyle to snag a bad guy never ever gets old), the gadgets are cool, the voice acting is impeccable (hats off to Mark Hamill and Arleen Sorkin, in particular), and the level of detail and little nods to characters in the Batman universe scattered around the island really take it to another level.

I think the graphics are pretty good, but yeah. I'm still jonesing to get 100%I noticed a lot of screen-tearing and pixelation, even in the cutscenes, and the lip-synching was meh, but overall it's pretty good, and the animations are really smooth.

Pretty much every major villian from the Batman universe either makes an appearance or is referenced in some way.

After playing the game, I'm thinking that The Riddler is the only one who makes sense for the next Nolan Batman movie. The rest are either too cartoonish or unrealistic to fit the tone of the reboot films.

The Riddler? Seriously? If anything, he's the most cartoony of the Batman villains. A guy who you can only stop by following the "clues" he gives you. Really, the more you think about it, the more you realize the guy is a campy knockoff of the Joker.

That is actually the one thing I don't like about the Nolan Batman movies. There is no detective-work. Batman made his mark by being "the world's greatest detective" not "the 'Bat' is for borderline batshit!"

Automatic weapons (like submachine guns) are very heavily regulated. Don't you have to have a class 3 license or something to own one? This idea is cool, and I want one, but I think the market would be too small to produce. Plus it probably counts as an assault weapon (I don't how much of that band is still in effect, since the law isn't on the books anymore), because it has a collapsible stock, detachable magazine, and pistol grip.

Really fucking cool, no matter what.

Voivod - Katorz

EDIT: Finally owning a Voivod album officially makes them a must-see at Scion. Partly why I ordered it. :bliss:
Yeah, but Katorz was only half decent in my book. Personally, I loved Nothingface the most. I think you might, too - it is very proggy, but still heavy too. Unfortunately, you won't find one to buy for less than seventy bucks or so, as it's out of print and very rare nowadays - nobody wants to sell theirs, because it's such a damned sweet CD.

Dimension Hatross sounds very similar, and it is widely available. I recommend that album highly. Angel Rat is pretty similar as well, and is also easy to get. Their older stuff is less prog and way more thrash (not necessarily a bad thing), and everything after Angel Rat gets a bit weird for my taste. Negatron wasn't bad, but the lineup wasn't the "real Voivod" to me, since it didn't have Snake on vocals. At least Katorz has that going for it. ;)

Two lamenated study guides on Microeconomics and Macroeconomics
Economics Is Everywhere by Daniel S. Hamermesh
Freakonomics by Steven Levitt
9-11: Emergency Relief (comic book writers/artists response to September 11th)

The first three, as well as a purchase in December, Basic Econometrics by Damodar N. Gujarati, are to re-familiarize myself with, you guessed it, economics. I'm picking up a double major in the dismal science, and since its been a little less than a year since my last high school class, I figured it couldn't hurt to brush up.

DVD plus live audio CD (very good quality on both, BTW), with a very cool booklet inside a standard two-disc DVD case. So, one of my best friends has decided to start selling off his absolutely massive ~6,000-CD collection, and before he puts a lot of the non-rare stuff up online, I'm getting to sift through them and pull out the stuff I want, and he's giving them to me at GREAT prices. Just about everything he owns (especially stuff purchased in the past 5 or so years) is in like-new condition, and as long as it's not a Deluxe/Bonus CD/Bonus DVD-type of version, I'm getting most stuff for $5-apiece. So you can imagine the huge opportunity for myself being that his musical tastes are VERY aligned with mine.

Over the course of the next couple of months I will no doubt be grabbing MANY more titles as he breaks out more boxes and I can afford to spend more money. I wouldn't at all be surprised if I wind up spending $200 or so just filling in holes in my collection.

My first haul, made just out of what he had sitting on his set of display shelves, was the following:

Allen/lande - The Revenge
Avantasia - The Metal Opera II
Gamma Ray - No World Order
Pagan's Mind - Enigmatic : Calling
Threshold - Critical mass
Vanden Plas - Christ 0

The following are sitting in my "bin" at his place, also stuff I pulled on my first run though his collection, but I didn't pay for them yet:
Iron Maiden - Best of the Beast (For the sake of the collection)
Riot - Thundersteel
Royal Hunt - Moving Target

As I said, as of this point this is entirely stuff I'm already familiar with, in many cases albums I already love - it's just that I can't pass up the opportunity to add a lot of these to my collection for just $5. MANY more to come over the next months I'm sure.

Would it surprise you to find out that I actually considered Absu for a second? Fun fact - it's true. I just can't do it, though. I'd basically have to chuck Voivod AND Cannibal Corpse for a band that I know very little about. In that context, you really can't expect me to make that decision, can you? :snivel:

EDIT: Oh, and you'd better be careful about calling me "supa lame". I might react the same way Doogie Howser did in "Undercover Brother" when they called him a sissy. :eyes:

Yeah, it's $58 or so when it's all said and done. I think I'm going to wait until May to even think about buying a ticket and if it's sold out, well, oh well. Guess I'll wait to see Slayer a little longer.

Yeah....That is really steep considering I only have 3 times that in my bank account right now, with no job to replenish it.

Dirt cheap. If that line-up played here the tickets would be the same figure in s.

I was gonna say the same thing. Forty-three bucks (or fifty-eight, inclusive of ass-raping fees) is pretty cheap for the three bands you're getting. Hell, the last couple of times Slayer came around with even shittier bands, I'm sure the tickets were the same price if not more. I think they were fifty bucks or more even three or four years ago when they toured with Marilyn Manson, for fuck's sake (although I believe Mastodon was part of that, too - but my memory isn't 100% on this and I'm too lazy to look it up).

Anyhow, how much you have in your bank account versus the ticket price really isn't a way to say that the prices are "fair" or not, just whether or not you can afford to go. I'm surprised they aren't asking sixty to eighty bucks before the anal rape. This might have actually changed my mind towards GOING as opposed to staying home. :eyes:

DethMaiden

Yeah, I mean all things considered it's a very fair price, and a price that I would have paid at a moment's notice in high school when I had a well-paying job and no responsibilities.

ravenheart
03-03-2010, 12:09 PM
Compare that to Aerosmith, who just announced a London date at the O2 Arena, and the cheapest tickets are 75 plus 9 in ass-rape (i.e. $127).

Good tickets are 95 plus 11 rapage (i.e. $160)

I wasn't saying the price was unfair, per se....but its looking out of my price range. Especially when you throw in gas for a three hour drive and meals. Whatever. No decisions until closer.

I have a question to ask regarding American tickets actually, do you have to buy separate tickets for each section of the venue? I understand of course seating and standing tickets, and seating tickets being numbered and what not, but after that, do you have to buy different tickets for different sections of the standing area?

Personally it's never happened to me but I have heard of that happening. Front of the stage, then behind that, then different sections of the seated section having different prices depending on distance from the stage.

Yeah I heard mention of people on this site saying they had to pay more to be up front for Maiden. Im guessing its a golden circle thing or something along those lines? In Ireland, every venue has the 'pit' at the front of the standing area, and that would take say 5000 people, and you just cue up for early for the pit passes. Theres two venues that have golden circles, but only bands like the police and bon jovi, real HUGE acts, have actually used the separate golden circle tickets..

The outdoor venue here just got renovated so it's like this

Stage
GA Pit (anyone can get here)
GA Seats (anyone can get there, but there are barely any)
Rserved Seats (a couple of sections, but they are usually the same price no matter what)
GA Lawn

The pit and the seats are first come - first serve.

I hate that we don't have any venues like that. That banking means you can see the stage from anywhere and it's all about distance.

Our open-air venues have to be either stadiums, fields or parks, which are flat and shit for watching a concert. Obviously you've got the seating at a stadium, but by necessity it's always a mile from the stage.

This is precisely why I haven't seen Maiden since 2003.

Pre-ordered Iced Earth - Box of The Wicked.

Wasn't that impressed with either of the last two albums, but don't actually own proper copies of either of them (promos with voiceovers), and for 16.99 for both albums, both EPs (own one already, got a promo of the other) and a new EP with unreleased 2009 live tracks with Barlow on vocals, I thought it was the best way to acquire them.

Also bought Midnight Sun - Metalmachine.

Wouldn't bother me. I've not reason at all to stand up at concerts unless it's an all-standing venue. I wouldn't stand up at the theatre, or a sports event, so why is a concert any different?

And before answering, remove all reasoning directly related to "because it's cool" or "because that's what you do at a gig".

But I agree about the front row thing. I don't think the option to stand should be removed completely, because there are people who want that, and that's fine. Don't care myself, but whatever. And if you've going to stand, you want to be doing it down the front. If you're going to sit, that level of proximity isn't really a huge deal. So yeah, standing down the front for sure, but all the rest of the whining that goes on about standing, nope, sorry, fuck off.

Especially people who moan about being told to sit down in seated sections. If you wanted to stand, you should have got off your lazy ass and bought a standing ticket before they sold out.
