Wow, some of this is WAY better than I remember it being. However, some of it is definitely not. If they would've trimmed some fat off of this and just altered some parts this could've been a really good song.

Don't know whether I like this version or the new one on The Ichthyologist more. Both Aurielle Zeitler and Karyn Crisis can really scream, and of course the music and riffs are unbelievably good. I guess I'm going to have to give it to the newer version because of Karyn's five-foot dreds and tatoos, and also because it has trumpet in the background. What other metal group uses a fucking trumpet?!? God dammit does Giant Squid rule...Saturday night is going to be EPIC.

One of this band's most underrated songs IMO.
The Clairvoyant
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Iron Maiden
Seriously, how the fuck did this song ever become "classic" Iron Maiden material? I mean it isn't terrible, but it's definitely one of the weaker songs from the 80's, and why it's still played live today is beyond me.
Let's break it down: "OMG BASS INTRO" Too bad the the tone sounds like crap. It's too light and has no buzz, and it really just sounds like a clean guitar with terrible flanger (or wah-wah?). As a result, the first time you hear it you think, "Wait, that was a bass?"
"For all his power couldn't forsee his own demise." I'd say the age where you would think something like that was clever is 15. That's how old I was when I first heard that line; I didn't think it was clever then and I don't think it's clever now. Incidentally, I did use to think "but isn't it strange, that as soon as you're born, you're dying" was clever, but then I turned 17.
I mean, like I said it's not an awful song but Steve, next time you're picking out a setlist and want to represent 7th Son with a song under 9 minutes, try Only The Good Die Young, Infinite Dreams, or stick to The Evil That Men Do.

Wow, I don't think I could disagree with you more. There is nothing wrong with the bass sound in the intro to that song. There's no illusion of Flanger or Wah, and bass isn't SUPPOSED to naturally have a buzz, it's just that a lot of bassists use shitty bass distortion or just playing in a muddy fashion. Steve's bass sound has always been about as clear as they come, which is what I like about it.
When it comes to lyrics, I agree that they're not particularly clever, but since when has that ever mattered? I do see the value in having clever lyrics, and I think great lyrics tend to separate most good bands from great ones, but I think The Clairvoyant is nowhere near the bottom of Maiden's lyric pile, and even if it were, if the lyrics aren't downright bad (which, despite lack of cleverness, they are not), there's really no reason to isolate it and pick on it.
I agree that it's not one of the best songs on 7th Son (I'll definitely take Evil That Men Do, Infinite Dreams, Only the Good Die Young, and, these days, Moonchild over it), but it is in NO way a bad song and compared to some of Maiden's other songs which have become set staples long after their respective albums, it's downright great live.

Bullshit logic. The Clairvoyant is amazing, and the lyric you bash is magnificent, and the bass intro is great, as well as the way they add each instrument one by one during that intro. The whole thing is great, and it's on par with Infinite Dreams and The Evil That Men Do, the other two best songs on the record.
When it comes to lyrics, I agree that they're not particularly clever, but since when has that ever mattered?
Well, in this case it matters because tards are claiming that it's the best song on the album because of that line. Even fucking Ultraboris thinks that.
