Third best song on the album - which says a lot about the album, because this song fucking rocks. :fist:

(Some of Aurielle's best vocals ever are on this song - ear-piercing screams and haunting clean singing, all in one creepy, but beautiful tune...:D)

We smelled the greasepaint in the air,
They stumbled into town last night, completely unaware,
Clad in shirts of mesh and with mascara on their eyes
We saw a keyboard player and we knew they had to die.

They played a show at Ivan's Inn,
From underneath the stage we heard the caterwauling din,
They sang of forests, elves, and trolls,
The urge to kill them on the spot we barely could control

After the show they all got drunk,
Apparently to celebrate a set that really stunk,
To the graveyard they predictably paid call,
These lords of chaos whined about their tour bus being small

They spoke of Norway and "the scene"
The sound of laughing Ghouls reverberated through the trees
"We should take some pictures!" the one in chain mail said,
"That's it." Cremator growled, "It's time these idiots were dead."

I know it was in my Top 5 and I agree their best to date. When I saw so many people on here rating new Dream Theater Top 10 and not Retribution I just shook my head. I can't picture anyone listening to those 2 cd's back to back and saying that the DT was better in any way. To me SF is everything DT could and should be.

Dream Theater and Shadows Fall should have absolutely nothing in common, and I figure the only reason they might is because Mike Portnoy is an idiot. DT are one of my top 10-20 favorite bands but you won't ever catch me listening to Shadows Fall. I don't think they're anything alike.

That's why I said Shadows Fall is everything DT SHOULD and COULD be. Dream Theater is boring live with everyone standing around with their arms crossed nodding after the solos. Shadows Fall smokes them and is a million times better live. No idiotic 20 min keyboard solos here chief. No horrific high vocals with idiotic lyrics either. DT need a dose of testosterone STAT! Their 1st album Day & Dream unite was incredible. The next 2 were classic and everything since is elitist BS with a few great songs sprinkled in.

My friends who are all DT groupies love the new Shadows Fall and only like the opening track on DT and I'm with them. For you to like all that demons and wizards magic the gathering shit and not like Shadows Fall is laughable to me. Retribution smokes every single cd you listed in your Top 20. I listened to some of that crap you listed and just laughed. Seriously you need to expand your horizons before you bag on bands you know nothing about. Shadows Fall are incredible and they very similar to those bands you love so much, just better If you opened your mind you would know that.

Maybe it's the area but in this town a Dream Theater concert is like a Pink Floyd show. I love Pink Floyd but people just stand there watching the light show. That's fine just not what I'm looking for at a show. The last 2 times I've seen Dream Theater the setlists were short and the solos went on forever it seemed. Personally I don't like what DT has become and I love what SF has become. That's all i was trying to say. I still think Shadows Fall is the most underrated band out there. My comparison of SF and Killswitch ticket prices proves that I think.

Dude, back the hell off.

I didn't insult you personally, you didn't have to come after me. I knocked a parallel you made between two bands, which the average person would probably agree with me for doing. I didn't say you were crazy for listening to Shadows Fall, did I? I don't think so.

Also, for you to call the music I like "demons and wizards magic the gathering shit" is proof that you have FAR less of a clue about all of it than I possibly ever could about Shadows Fall. I also find it god damn retarded that you make a comment about needing to expand my horizons within a post that is peppered with ignorant stupidity.

I mean this in the nicest possible way - go fuck yourself. I don't even care if I get banned for saying that because the truth is you should've been banned a month ago for that stupid outburst you had.

I've only ever listened to Beast in the Light.

Probably my third favorite song on the record. "Nature of Evil" is actually a rerecording of a Sinner song, and Mat Sinner sings guest vocals on it. And "Absolution" is a really great, dynamic mini-epic featuring Michael Kiske, who I often find overrated and somewhat annoying, but he fits that track perfectly. Also, the chorus is just awesome.

That would make a lot of sense, because Carcass did something very similar at the show that Brad and I saw at Peabody's last Spring - they ended their set with:

Definitely would be a surprise, I'm sure. Their sets were fantastic as well, such a shame I couldn't experience em. Next time I will go regardless!

Too bad The Sickness Within line-up is long gone. I would have loved to seen them with that line up. But at least they finally made it over here. Can't complain.

Well, I guess that depends on what your definition of "traditional power metal" is, and in that case, Blind Guardian never WERE a traditional power metal band to start with. The early stuff is pure speed metal, downright thrashy, and then by the time they really started to shift towards more melodic stuff, it took on a more unique sound. The only album where they possibly settled around normal might've been Imaginations, but I wouldn't even say that.

Well, I never really claimed them to be a "traditional power metal" band, just that for being power metal in and of itself they are very unique. The fact that they were never really traditional in the first place and never got there is fascinating, and quite inspiring.

You're right, but only if you're talking about the town in Berkshire, England.

Slough can also rhyme with "new", as in "I left your lover in the slough" (<--lyrics on Giant Squid's "The Ichthyologist") - a slough is a swamp or bog. This is the most common pronunciation. I've always referred to the band as "sloo fegg". I've never heard any of them pronounce it.

Slough can also rhyme with "fluff", when it's used as a verb, as in "I'm sloughing off some former associates."

That should complicate things nicely. :D

I've always said Slough like it rhymes with plow. Because Slough Feg is a British comic book character and I figure that's how that's intended.
